  1. I wish you had said Ian We did a barn a couple of miles from you at Dolphinholme Rough stone We had to build out a smooth rendered band for the tape to espadrilles against They really should have told you this in advance A thin coat of render sponged up would have worked on Dura perfect
  2. Virtually all our tiling jobs are specified for crack matting with UFH Your taking a chance without it Also you can get away with less movement joints Most screeds and Slabs move and crack regardless of UFH If the screed moves it will at the very least crack the grout It’s personal choice I’ve just been out to a newly built house with a hairline crack across the large kitchen floor The builder is saying the tiler gave him no guidance Tilers saying builder said keep the price down In any case the tile will have to come up
  3. What a great idea
  4. Thanks Mike I served my apprenticeship plaster and tiling Back in the day it was the same job Long before flexible adhesives We used to screed in the morning and lay boards on it in the afternoon and tile with a cement mix The matting is a must for UFH 25 mtrs down this afternoon 125 to go Though I’ve just finish our last bathroom With a total of a 110 mtrs used between the three
  5. I know B&Q have islands in there displays They are at least a 1000 wide So they must sell it Even if it means waiting for a couple of weeks for it to come in Though when you enquire I would try to look interested in buying a full kitchen Weve bought single items from them over the years and they have always been really helpful
  6. I finally made a start on the floor tiling this afternoon I really could do with a week off to get on with it ut paid work has to come first
  7. Some of the Architects fees are ridiculous we spent £2500 on Architect fees and have manage fine
  8. I always have a pack in my van for when we are rendering Marvelous invention ive spent years cabletying bits of pipe to gutters to keep the rain off render while it’s still fresh
  9. Plumber normally Its normall to put the gutters on and leave the down pipe till the scaffold is down
  10. If they are not load baring Build them out of 70 mil timber or metal and simply plasterboard eithether side with 12.5 board The architect can’t dictate the thickness of a stud wall There will be lots more important things to worry about
  11. Unuseuall for 150 studs not to be load baring Joist ends ?
  12. Yes we spent ages researching They were the only ones that invited us down to the factory Planners had spect paired hardwood sash windows Quikslide had won several Heritage awards So we thought it would help to change planners minds
  13. We went with Quikslide Sash windows throughout Excellent quality and pretty easy to fit
  14. Res bar on the ceilings with two layers of sound block is one of the most cost eftive ways of achieving a high level of soundproofing
  15. The responsibility is with MBC to set a structural opening size and a finished opening size and for the other two to work to the drawing Suplied While the render can vary across the building it is easy controlled around the windows
  16. I Echo that You can’t exspect someone to be running his own business for a £130 per day Vehichle tools Corperation tax and holidays You get what you pay for
  17. Cus poo would get stuck in the corners
  18. You shouldn’t use self leveller on top of crack matting It sort of defeats the object
  19. If you want to send me a drawing I’ll give you a rough idea of what you should need and expect to pay for labour
  20. I had one of them work for me I told him to keep an eye on his angle He replied ‘I keep one eye on my work and the other on my wallet’ He didn’t last
  21. No that wouldn’t take much longer Perhaps an extra half day on boarding Theres a plaster on Ultimate diy Calls himself trowel monkey and seems to be the main one His boast is that he always has a bag of easi fill and goes back the following day and fillls for free Imagine that you’ve just got rid of the dirty buggers and they turn up to make more mess and dust ?
  22. A Quik look at the drawing will tell you The fire board is normally protecting steel But most three story don’t need more than half an hour fire protection
  23. Ask him if you could have a look at the last full house that he’s done If he’s doing site work there should be numerous properties on the go A rough guide for two site plasters to fix 150 boards would be three to four days days with loading ( Normal height ceilings) Three days to skim
  24. Noooooo don’t do it Most are jobbers looking to spend a couple of days boarding and skimming a room Cost you a fortune A proper company may not be as exspensive as you think and will invoice you when all is complete
  25. Yes if your going for wet plaster backing coat There’s no need to Parge coat Simply trap the membrane and trim off the excess
