  6. Getting the neighbours on side is quite easy Keeping them on side is the tricky bit
  7. I don’t know about you Nick But once over we used to mix the grout like cream poor it on the floor and spread it out with a spatula To allow the grout to flow under the tiles Then we would scatter wood shavings to soak up the excess and polish the tiles to near perfect That was my job for six months when I first left school No chance of any hollow spots Now we mix the grout like paste and just fill the edges Perhaps that why old tiles are such a nightmare to remove
  8. If you back buttered the tiles There is not much more that you could have done Don’t beat yourself up over it Because a few have lifted it doesn’t mean the rest will Not a big job to lift a few and reset them
  9. Get a a 1 mil grinder disc Nip the joints out make a hole Get a chisel under The tile should come out quite easy Chip away at the adhesive tgats left As long as the grout isn’t touching the good tiles you’ll be ok
  10. Whatever render that you decide to use you must machinacal fix the mesh Or the render will eventually she’ll The ones that I have done have been done as follows Prine the surface We often use fancy primers that are extortionately price Simply because they are on the job spec Morevoften than not with render the primer is simply to kill the suction not to stick the render to the surface So I tend to use one of cheaper primers if it’s not on the drawing apply a 5 mil base coat k Webber Stuca etc Don’t schratch or key The following day Drill and knock in render fixing Fischer or simalar The apply a render finish Hope this helps
  11. That price is top Hevey We would charge £11200 Not including scaffolding
  12. I regularly use most of the through coloured renders K rend silicon based is as good as anything out there Though we try not to use Webber
  13. We had this from the B.B. company Crane included but not plates They quoted £300 for plates I got them droped off for £60 from a local plant hire But needed a mini digger on site to pull them off and back on the following day
  14. I really wouldn’t worry Ian a slight variation in the amount of lime will alter the colour Regarding the thickness As long as every inch is covered you will be fine Looks like you have worked hard on it well done ?
  15. We built both DGs with a 50 mil cavity As mr P said most are single skin
  16. If you first line the beam with 15 mil fire line plasterboard you simply clad the whole beam with oak or simalar

    Gas sign off

Thanks for that advise The guy who installed the gas and boiler is a childhood friend who ran his own business up until eight years ago He now works at a local hospital maintaining there heating and general plumbing He has a friend who will sign it off who used to work for him. The reason for my question was I’ve a gas cert on a rental due I was going to kill two birds with one stone The lad that does our gas certs is employed by a boiler repair company and replaced a boiler for me recently Then did the warranty through the company that he works for But it was purchased on their account so this might not be possible with our build.
  18. I would be a little concerned that your tiler doesn’t realise that the floor covering always goes down after the wall tiles even if he was ceramic tiling the floor It would go down afterwards
  19. Another wood burner question can I return the skirting into the chimney Or would there be a problem with combustible material

    Gas sign off

In order to satisfy BC What do I need regarding the boiler and gas Is a normal gas cert enough Like I would have for our rentals Or is something else needed I’ve already been caught out with the WYAPS cert It caused weeks of delays with the water connection It turned out that the box listing internal inspection hadn’t been ticked
  21. If you are going to use it outdoors Red are useles without a detector Green are far better I’ve a green Hilti rotary which was the very first green laser on the market Still works perfectly I also have a couple of Hilti line lasers in green Great value at £300 Two years guarantee Free recalibration within that period and when you have finished with it It will sell all day long at £200 on eBay Bosch and Dewalt are ok Id stay away from the cheaper ones Ok for hanging a picture or two
  22. Thanks That makes sense We wanted to get away from anything too chunky Declans looks really sleek and would satisfy BC Its a pretty easy fit in that we won’t need a flexible flu dragging down the chimney There is a local guy I’ve come across on-site that will supply and fit with a cert I was going to build an oak beam in But he told me that I will have to plant it in the face As with plasterboard considered combustible Surprising what you learn
  23. Trickle vents are a pain in the Arse We make our home as air tight as possible and have to put vents in everywhere and they look awful I had this conversation with BC Every window We have an Orangery with two lots of four sash window Eight vents
  24. Thanks Dave the chimney is built out of block ive boarded the recess out with backer board and skimmed with heat resistant plaster
  25. Good morning My question is Although wood burners are normally sat on a hartth My wife has asked me to run the tiles into the chimney Brest and site the wb directly on the floor First Question having no exsperience of Wbs Am I breaking any rules Second is would it look right
