  1. On most of the jobs I do paving is run right against the wall with very little clearance Sometimes we are asked to render below dpc I’ve using through coloured renders for over 40 years I’ve never known splash back be an issue It’s worth considering K Rend for your build You don’t get this kind only nonsense from there reps
  2. Yes cut them at an angle so they fit flat against the wall plate
  3. Wouldn’t sorry
  4. Firs payment Footing& Foundations to slab 2nd up-to chamber 3rd to watertight The rest you can agree between yourselves Say first fix joinery plumbing and electrics Then a payment after plastering Render if applicable You will probably be asked for the rest as things arrive on-site Kitchens bathrooms Boilers heat pumps etc The main thing is agreeing upto watertight I would be keen on anything up front You could offer to settle the concrete bill or bricks Once they are onsite
  5. Bit more detail pls TF or traditional Pile foundation House or extension
  6. Quite a few of sites are doing a sound test on 1-8 I think he’s mistaken
  7. You can do it either way Personally I’d have a day getting the studs in and put a 100 mil rip of ply around each stud You can normally walk on most screeds after a week If you go for liquid screed it harden and dry much quicker than C&C We normally tile liquid screed after a week
  8. Not the best excuses I’ve heard Wrong bead We use all kinds of beads Even bellcast From the photo it doesn’t look to close to the ground I normally advise 150 minimum At the very least the supplier should stand the cost of the materials and scaffolding Theres no point in having a product guarantee if they are going to try and wiggle out of there responsibility Keep at them Dave My guess is they will probably back down when they realize that you won’t accept there explanation
  9. Clean the staining with Oxcylic acid crystal
  10. If you really eat it in your bathrooms I would go with wet UFH We had electric matting at our previous house A total waste of time We hardly ever used it It took that long to heat up Though-it was handy for drying the floor after our messy young adults had been in Though they never switched it off when they had finished ?
  11. Ours came with a box to hide the motor When I fitted it I could here the door catching the box After taking it off a couple of times I left it off so I could keep an eye on things I’ never got round to putting it back on As above I think the box will be the cause of your problems
  12. Welcome to the forum There’s lots of fellow workaholics in the building game Or like you say Just enjoy building While ground conditions may dictate your foundations We used strip all be it very deep strip We had to use Block and Beam due to being surrounded by trees So putting the UFH in the slab want an option We are about to start planning for the next two I hope to use strip again Hopefully not as deep this time and should be ok to use a slab with UFH and screed I’ve worked on jobs where UFH pipes have been damaged in the slab I intend tiling the floors throughout the GF So a screed will be easier to control the finish floor Previous was traditional Ive looked seriously at TF At nearly 60 it would be so convenient to get a company in to build to watertight But we simply can’t justify the extra cost Look forward to seeing your build unfold
  13. I’m not sure how far you are from Preston But as fitters go Trade windows are pretty good

  16. While I’m not a plumber but I found it extremely easy to fit our four concealed Geberit systems They have been in use for over two years without any issues I will be using Geberit on our next builds
  17. While there is a supply of water to the plots I’m dependent on the good will of the neighbor So I’m considering getting a temporary water supply My question to those that have done this is Will the supply be metered throughout the build or monthly Or a one off charge
  18. Definitely worth a try
  19. I’m working my way through a load of back copies of Build it that my friend has finished with and saw this article and thought it was good advise
  20. I’ve used GEC for multiple Conections Like many they are a middle man company But will do you a plan and a quote for Gas Electric and Water Very unlikely to coordinate all three together I ran my water and two ductings in the same trench and back filled They seamed ok with that
  21. Is it to late to reject these doors It should be the window companies problem Not yours
