  2. The gaps are normal If the ridge tiles are new they need swapping for ones that arnt chipped Also I’m not sure why they have cement hand prints all over But that needs cleaning with brick acid
  3. You would simply apply for planning permission or Retrospective pp

Our friends have recently finished there SB and have this full height window South facing and are unsure how to dress this window without spoiling there view Weve sat in this and the solar gain is going to be a problem Which is making us sure that 3g is a must Who has these tall gable window on here Can this be tackled with type of glass we use Can our friends get blinds to sort this out
  9. Your building control should be pretty clear on this ALL Rooms above ground floor will need an escape Bathrooms are exempt I wouldn’t of though the landing would need an escape either I know I didn’t bother
  10. Does anyone know when the above is going to be on ?
  11. You will have a membrane and slip membrane under your But an expansion gap around the perimeter You can seal the skirting to the floor which should make a good air seal In not a plumber but separate manifolds for up and down will allow you to have different temperatures We have UFH on the ground floor and never use the heating on the first floor as it tends to correspond with the large open hallway As the heat rises and has nowhere to go once up there
  12. Varleys are bringing everything in from Germany Might not be a such a stretch to send directly to you
  13. This is one of the reasons we have diced against Sips and TF On our last and next two While companies are manic busy at the moment Many will go bust when the government handouts stop
  14. You could put some 400 mil dpc against the adjoining wall before compacting the hardcore It will isolate the patio from them Then crack on Remember neighbors are always expert on planing permission ?

  19. I’ve just finished the bill of quality for a large housing site (180) and noticed the client has speced paper tape in all angles This as gone a full circle for me 30 years ago we moved from hessian to paper Then fibre tape While convenient Not grey for stopping cracks So much so I used paper tape on our build 3 years on no cracks anywhere I think things are sometimes change without any need
  20. It’s probably worth counter battening the underside for plaster boarding This will also stop any twisting and will help stop floorboard creek later
  21. Ply exposed to the elements wouldn’t last long 18 mil would require 400 centres 22 cabba or similar is the flooring of choice on most I boarded ours then sheeted it with plastic It was left exposed for six weeks without any adverse effect
  22. If there is no contract in place You can simply part ways If he thinks there is any money owed He will have to go down the legal route No one cane remove any of the building and doing so is criminal damage Even if you hadn’t paid for it There’s nothing to stop you approaching trades directly They are likely to be subcontractors Site insurance can be sorted out over the the phone quite quickly Good luck
  23. You do need public liability insurance and to cover your new building As soon as you start covering plant and tools your premiums rocket A basic liability and building cover will be much cheaper Let your builder take responsibility for materials and plant I daughter that he’s insurance will cover materials and tools
  24. If your looking to sell your house It would be money well spent on replacing the roof
