  1. Yes I use them all the time Mainly on offices and shops While yours is quite dated It still looks ok If you decide to replace the tiles with 600 x 600 You can now get tiny clips that will stop the tiles lifting While the ceiling is not load bearing you could run 25 mil insulation on the top before you re tile
  2. You can use 600 x 600 Simply jus add a bar for them to sit on The holes are already in the existing Just click the new bar in They are about a £1 each
  3. The pictures show a suspended grid ceiling You can’t fix plasterboard to this It will collapse
  4. In our case the field has been in the same family since the 1920s and The field drains into it in at least four places Though we will have to consider some kind of flood protection to the 6 “ pipe and some way of stopping rats from leaving there home for pastures new
  5. We are ready to finalize the purchase our plots next week We intend to run a 6” drain 120 metres to the bottom of the field into a flowing dyke While trying to find out who owned the dyke The seller pointed out If you own the hedge you ideally own the dyke at the other side of the hedge He explained the land owner would dig the dyke Pile the soil on his own side Then plant a hedge in it Seems logical but something I’d never heard Useful to know as waste water disposal can be a deciding factor when buying a plot
  6. Just to add When you do any step joints Make sure at least three trusses land on any pieces
  7. You don’t need either Use L shaped wall straps Plug and screw to the face of your block work Then drive a couple of 50 mil screws into the top of the wall plate Th
  8. There will be lots of things that you can do nothing about Delays with materials and trades Deadlines being missed etc All will happen You will have to try not to take it personal and focus on other things
  9. Try another SE Quotes vary wildly
  10. I can check later But I think it was direct line They really weren’t bothered about sign off
  11. We moved into ours in December and where signed off in March Then reclaimed our vat in May within the The three months timeline Insurers where fine with this as long as we had electrical gas water certification
  12. An Architects cert is cheaper than a Building warranty But some lenders don’t recognize them HSBC being one
  13. The reconstituted stone shouldn’t crack Quick spray with Algicide will clear any green and keep them clear for at least six months
  14. Very well put I would just add to above Don’t worry about something that you can’t do anything about
  15. It took us seven years to find the first plot Everything went to plan We’ve been in just over two years and are about to complete on our second plot Great price and location The only downer is we’ve had to buy two plots Don’t over think your build Problems along the way are nearly always minor ones Pull the trigger
  16. I’m guessing that most companies would sell you the most expensive model Like buying.a car It would have been nice to hear some first hand experience Over spec under spec Price etc
  17. No the info is for our next build I was quite taken back that my heating engineer friend has little or no knowledge But as he said none of of our sites have them But that’s going to change I would imagine a handful will go on courses Then bring the others upto speed While there current crop of a dozen apprentices will be learning this at college We did a site locally in 2008 which I now realize had a heat pump on all 128 homes The builder used there usual plumbing company Learning on the job
  18. Something I’ve little knowledge of Though I’ve a friend who runs a plumbing and heating company About 50 employees He admits that he has little knowledge of them but added that will all have to change very soon question sizing Brand and cost of the actual pump Any with a long guarantee Looking online Prices seem to vary wildly
  19. That’s good to know Dave Rationel look really smart Also we will spend the extra money for 3G that wasn’t an option last time
  20. When I was getting quotes first time round A lot are not keen on self install Or didn’t quote bother to quote for Something that was 12 months down the line Where Ratiobel ok with self install
  21. We are in a conservation area Our planning insisted on permeable and a rumble strip by the road So we assumed gravel or gravel It was BC that said Block pavers are still considered permeable As long as we don’t seal them
  22. We have a site where the show house drive was done with these grids After seeing this we immediately decided to do our 400m2 drive with these By the time we were ready 18 months had passed and The show house drive was looking pretty shabby Mainly bare and broken grids around the edge The groundwork’s company who laid these said they are not maintenance free and will move with vehicles running on them We bit the bullet and put 400 m2 of pavers down instead and will probably do the same on our next builds The grids arnt cheap Though I do like them for off road hard standing Grassed over
  23. They can look a bit rough a year a year or two down the line Paths seem better suited than drives
