Nail on the head I’m pricing for work 18 months in advance I’m also very conscious that I may spend several days preparing a bill of quantity Only for it to be used to undercut me As I stated previously Approach a building company and pay them for there QS to give you a quote and a chance to bag the job further down the line Any free advice will be ballpark at best
-
Your Architecht should be able to do a rough costing A better option would be to pay a building company to cost it for you This isnt a difficult task if you know what you want
-
It would be well worth you spending on a planning consultant They are not that expensive in the grand scheme of things
-
Ah right sounded thin Always at least the thickness of the tile
-
What are you sticking down 3 mil sounds very thin

Worth speaking to an SE Normally you would add a steel to the ridge and build a cut roof off this

If something goes wrong The chances of getting a sole trader to claim off his insurance are slim to none Most take out a very cheap policy in order to comply with site legislation The majority that work on private work are mostly No income tax no Vat No money back no guarantee and would probably have to Google public liability
-
I’ve a contractors insurance which covers direct employees It doesn’t cover subcontractors Whilst for site work I can provide them with a risk assessment They need to have a public liability for a sole trader or a company one As a self builder you don’t need to get involved with contractor insurance Unless you plan to employ trades ( Holiday pay Sick pay etc (Cards in )
-
Even when employing individual trades ALL must have public liability policy’s Even if they ask for cash in hand They should have a public liability policy They only cost around £250 per year Your site insurance will cover your liability

-

Only Boarding One Side of Metal 'C' Studs
nod replied to HaloThree's topic in General Construction Issues
Looks ok you need to brace off the wall Two on each stud 800 and 1600 off the floor As you say a piece of track bent at right angles and a pan head in either corner to hold it in place Fire it to the wall and two more pan heads through the track and stud- 1 reply

Not using insulated pb on the slopes is a mistake Most of the jobs I price specify 70 or a 100 mil insulated We do the odd one in 37 mil Insulated boards ar 12 mil to help keep the weight down Even a 37 mil insulated board is more ridged than a 15 mil plain and heavier ?
