  1. Pub? Just to reflect and have some time out away from the problem. Hope you get things sorted. (At not much cost to yourself)
  2. Which toilet system have you used Peter? TIA
  3. Thanks for that. Will have to dig into the regs a bit more and find out his reasoning behind this
  4. I have the same sliding door arrangement and my cill does not move. It is rock solid all the way along. I wonder if it was not supported enough underneath when installed. Hope you manage to get it all sorted with those trims.

    Smashing!

Great blog and very informative. Glad @Onoff is a man of few words otherwise non of us on here would get much done!!
  6. My detached garage is 12.5m x 6m and the BCO wants me to board the ceiling. When I asked him why he said it was due to the size.
  7. Did I miss something or did they not put insulation in the main roof?
  8. Looks great and very informative!
  9. My knees are as bad as my back!!
  10. I have just dug a trench and combined with the chap who is building in the plot I have just sold to him. I have purposely waited to share the utilities cost as it makes sense to do it at the same time. We have shared everything and both have saved money by doing it this way. You may need to dig a wider trench than if it was purely for your own property. Some on here have laid everything at the same level but we where not allowed so had to have the water at 750mm with a 300mm separation (ish) and then elec, comms and gas above as per the utility company spec.
  11. I approached one of my neighbours and she just snatched the plans straight out of my hands when I informed her what we where proposing. She must have known somebody in planning as her letter of objection used all the latest terms and was very obviously professionally written. BUT they had obviously just written this without due consideration to our build and the neighbours house as it went on about causing a shadow on their house and reducing the light when their house is situated further South and more to the East. She moved away not long after that so to this day I do not know whether it was because of us or not.
  12. Is that the simple explanation!!
  13. I contacted the B/Insp we have been using for our build over a new development in the village where we live. We had gone for a walk and noticed that all of the houses that had been built did not have level thresholds. I knew it would be something to do with the fact they are built on a slight hill and that is what he confirmed when we messaged him. The houses have parking spaces outside and from the moment you get out of the car you are pretty much on a level playing field to the houses so I find it really strange that they are not having to conform to the regs. Not sure what it is saying to a disabled person if they want to live on a slight incline.
  14. Because you have a big tool you can stand to one side when going to the toilet and the grout line will look in the middle anyway!!
  15. I think you need a bigger tool mate!!
  16. Hi Nick. Do you mean mitre bond the corners of the tile trim to get them set perfectly and then use adhesive to hold them in place behind the tile? Edit. Should have read to the end of the thread first. It looks like you basically do away with the grout lines around the tile trims?
  17. Can you see me on my scaffolding?
  18. The neighbour is selling the house with the Yew in and at the moment the tree is providing a screen from our new build which he did not really like, hence why he is watching like a hawk.
  19. Because it is quite a large Yew tree that is expanding towards our new home. It has recently been rendered (house, not the tree) and I do not want it making the render go green over time. It will look a lot better with a prune as well.
  20. Has anybody any idea how much it costs gets to get permission from the local authority to prune a tree which has a TPO on it. I would do it undercover of darkness but the tree is in the neighbour's garden and he is watching me like a hawk!!
  21. That is entirely upto you. I got a list of approved renderers and two where mad busy and due to the delay with my windows could not fit me in. One guy came all the way from Burnley and said he would love to do it and would send me a quote and I never heard from him again. I eventually got a guy that had been on the list only because I want the back up from the render manufacturer in case of any problems.
  22. That's the going rate. Had 5 quotes and all around same price. Not a DIY job and it is a timber frame so cannot use traditional render. Looks good though. Scaffold down this week so may have some pics
  23. I live about 3 miles from their factory in Holme. We visited them a few years ago to have a look for our build but decided to go with another company in the end.
  24. Are you using Lakeland Timber Frame?
  25. I have put the timber battens and moisture resistant render board on my house, approximately 280sqm and that cost about £4000. I have had the Parex thin coat system put on top and that has cost £15400.
