  1. Wet sponge and keep washing it out. Move the spacers and then do where they were. ?
  2. I think the system may feature floor sensors because there is a potential for super high flow temp to accidentally get to the floor in the event of a few items failing. The idea being that the system wont allow heat / flow ( manifold pump to come on ) unless the system is at a preset temp or < the setting. If its set to 28, I'd set it higher like 38oC and run it from there. The two smaller gauges adjacent to each other show the flow and return temps, so if one is higher eg flow then there is heat being circulated and dissipated at least slightly, as if it wasn't then the flow and return temps would be near identical. Turn the white TRV heads all to 35oC and make sure the probes ( on the end of the pig tailed capillary wires ) are pushed home snugly.
  3. £20 a bag ( 20kg ) is the average. I use 'standard set' or 'extended set', different makes use different names for it but you get a good hour in the tub and it cleans off things easily after 2 hours. If this is for porcelain tiles then get a new tiler NOW. If its over tanking and with porcelain then punch him in the face first and then sack him.
  4. I'll need all 3 elements from the get-go though won't I ? Domestic electrical installation, inspection and testing for eg. Plus I'll need to be a member of a competent installer scheme / body in order to register the installation online? Just trying to work out which way around I go about it. A phone call tomorrow will lift the fog, and in the meantime I need to start revising!
  5. My point exactly. I could piss my gas, I just cannot be bothered as its not going to feature enough in my chosen scope of works / clientele. As quick as I can say "£350 for the day to connect and commission anyone?" a GSR fitter appears. All the liability then resides with them, plus they have their own insurances, are responsible for their own staff / PPE / H&S etc etc etc. I genuinely cannot be arsed. With electrical its a different ball game, as I'll find it impossible to avoid, and dragging an electrician around to do piddly little sign-offs is impractical and expensive. Time to stick an 'official' feather in my cap. The best guys to speak to tend to be the college lecturers, like when I considered doing my gas. They ( casually ) asked me some 'idiot identification and elimination' questions to see what I knew and told me I could probably get through in a week with a bit of swotting on flues / controls. Hopefully it'll be the same with the sparky side of things. I wonder If Bridgend College of Technology still has record of my C&G quals from my 2 years as an apprentice. 28 years ago lol. Didn't finish the course as I didn't want to become an electrician TBH, but did 2 years so should have summat to show for it.
  6. If that so, does that allow me to install and 1st / 2nd fix by default? eg competent to do one = competent to do the other? Was just reading this.
  7. I can live with commissioning being to the right for the immediate, its just being able to 1st fix / 2nd fix which would be of immediate benefit. It is what it is, so I'll likely talk to NAPITT and STROMA, as I hear that the NICEIC are a bit OTT on costs etc for the same result.
  8. Cheers Jeremy. I'll make a call to STROMA tomorrow and see if / how I can fast-track with them. I''l update here when I've spoken to them.
  9. I bet you've stopped crossing on the stairs and all sorts to avoid that I just want to know basically if I can fast track by demonstrating jobs done, a bit like the GSR said I could do if I wanted to go for my gas, under 'employ' ( eg supervision ) of a GSR fitter of course, and how long before they deem me 'competent'. Can I stump up their membership fee and get going now eg wire a job and have them come and inspect etc? Do I need to pass / obtain my 17th Ed first? Not sure where the horse and the cart sit TBH, as with the gas you have to demonstrate gas work you've done prior to getting GSR'd
  10. Bought a Windows lappy so I'll open it on that, cheers.
  11. Yup, numerical zero. Cheers. Looking forward to using the stimulator
  12. I mix it a bit thicker than double cream and ram it into the edges and intersections by pressing down hard on the grout float. I do that until I see it pushing back up out of the adjacent grout lines so I know there’s not really any more grout that will ‘go’ under / in. Gets a sweat on, but worth the effort imo. I routinely dab each corner of the tile with a tablespoon sized blob of adhesive and let that ooze into the intersections and then sponge the excess back before putting the spacers in. I never put the spacers in so they stay btw, just one of the 4 legs in at about 50mm in from each corner so I can pull them out and discard later.
  13. Morning folks. Just thought I’d dust this off as I may as well get my electrical certification. I can wire a domestic install in my sleep so makes sense. I’m also quoting for a LOT of renewable stuff, including retrofits, so these all need an electrical connection of varying complexity / interference with existing fixed wiring. @Onoff could you send me that link through to see how much rust needs buffing off? Is it ok to borrow certified test gear until I get to pick some up? Mates are always flogging off job lots or I can watch auctions etc. So, STROMA? Pros / cons ? I like to hear that they’re strict, as I hate schemes which do nowt except take your money. I’d rather be kept on my toes and that is also something good to demonstrate to a client. CORGI as a gas body didn’t really give a hoot until something bad happened, and I knew guys with that qualification that shouldn’t have been allowed to play with candles, let alone gas The question is, how far back am I going to have to wind the clock to get to a position where I can wire a domestic property start to finish, test and register. @ProDave, any nuggets of gold please. To register is simple, any competent installer scheme. So what do I need to be able to call myself a competent person? Quite happy for any info on ‘short-cuts’ eg 3rd party refresher courses / other as I really don’t want to have to go back to the cradle with all this. My preference would be to be able to demonstrate an installation, to say STROMA, and go from there. Thoughts and any advice / info would be much appreciated. ?
  14. Primered to death too though. ! Weird.
  15. 200mm of what though ? ? PIR or EPS?
  16. May be a consideration where sunlight is shaded, eg door and window reveals, and you end up getting an ‘uneven’ look.
  17. It’s ok. We just hooked the back up generator in whilst you were uploading pics these days
  18. AFTER THE FECKING BATHROOMS DONE!
  19. Just build one. The neighbours aren’t going to get planners out anytime soon ?
  20. Just can’t fathom out why they’d be popping. ? Can you get a deffo hollow one up from somewhere at least slightly inconspicuous? Be interesting to see if the adhesive has stuck to the tiles and lifted from the floor / vice versa.
  21. I just get bladdered and the place can burn down around me ???
  22. +1. @lizzie, get typing and snapping as it’s probably summat daft.
  23. Do all the tiles sound the same ? Eg ones a thud and another a clack ?
  24. And the focus when the sills are done ?
  25. Excellent. You can get classic car insurance then ?
