  2. Our BCO said "where is the air brick for the wood burner?". I mentioned the MVHR vent in the ceiling, and he nodded and said OK. No mention of backup air supply in case of power cut etc
  3. We had issues with mortar landing on wall ties. BCO spotted it and got the brick layers to knock it off.
  4. Seems the EU has deleted it's tweet saying that UK businesses need an EU EORI number.
  5. If this is just a one off use then something like this might do the job. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Wolfcraft-2202000-Water-Pump-1-300/dp/B0001P1972?ref_=fsclp_pl_dp_9 Needs a drill to power it. Self priming with 3m lift. If it's going to be used more frequently you want something better controlled by a float valve perhaps. Might also be able to hire one?
  6. Some pumps are specified for say 30 seconds dry running eg until they prime themselves. Main problem is when the water is all gone they burn up unless you are there to switch them off.
  7. Look for a self priming pump that can handle a negative head and dirty water.
  8. Just a heads up: The government and EU have changed the advice given to businesses. Businesses importing/exporting between UK and EU will need EORI numbers from BOTH the UK and EU. Previously both sides had claimed their number was the only one needed.
  9. They come with a driver and the label on the driver would have the info. Unfortunately I can't find a clear enough photo on the web.
  10. Have seen a few small articles suggesting the cost of construction insurance will rise as insurance companies factor in a shortage of skilled construction workers post Brexit. The argument being that less skilled workers make more mistakes and have more accidents.
  11. Feel free to delete my post above as its off topic. I just couldnt not reply.
  12. Scotland gets more per head than London... https://researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ResearchBriefing/Summary/SN04033 Public spending by country and region In 2017/18, public spending per person in the UK as a whole was £9,350. In England, it was £9,080 (3% below the UK average). This compares with: Scotland: £10,881 (16% above the UK average) Wales: £10,397 (11% above the UK average) Northern Ireland £11,190 (20% above the UK average). Among the English regions, public spending per person was lowest in the South East at £8,297 (11% below the UK average) and highest in London at £10,323 (10% higher than the UK average).
  13. I think silicone has better UV resistance than polyurethane... Google found.. https://www.directsealants.com/difference-between-silicone-sealant-polyurethane-sealant/ "The silica-oxygen (Si-O) bond found in silicone sealants is much more resistant to UV rays than the C-O bond present in polyurethane sealant. The outcome is that silicone sealants are inherently stable and more robust in terms of weatherproofing."
  14. Do look at other threads on sliding doors. They are fine for doors that are normally left open or closed but can be a pain for a frequently used door. Glass is quite heavy so hard work to accelerate and decelerate to avoid it crashing into the frame. Try before you buy.
  15. +1 Especially this bit....
  16. Think I would hide a newspaper, perhaps in a plastic bag. I always like finding really old papers. Perhaps the the 1st November edition of The Times?
  17. https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/couple-bathroom-renovation-hidden-message-owners-california-twitter-a8432506.html “If you're reading this, that means you're remodelling the bathroom again. What's wrong with the way we did it?!?!?"
  18. Perhaps show him the table here... https://nottenergy.com/resources/energy-cost-comparison/ An electric combi - 20p per kWH. ASHP - 7.7p per kWH Mains Gas - 5.1p per kWH Can he afford nearly three or four times the running cost?
  19. That line get pretty good reviews on Amazon, I'll have to give it a go.
  20. They look like some kind of filler but normally paint sticks well to filler. I wonder if its expanding and contracting at different rates in the sun? Was it cracking around the edges of the white spots? Wait for other suggestions but perhaps drill out the filler and glue in wood dowels?
  21. Nobody sets up a car plant to produce cars for just one country. Even Dyson understands it makes sense to manufacture close to your biggest market.
  22. That's right but I wonder how many EU companies export building materials outside the EU? One day I will try telling the girl in BnQ that I'm American buying paint to take home so she must deduct VAT.
  23. I nearly failed English ?
  24. Loosing that large a percentage on a property investment takes some doing. Especially in the housing market. All becomes clear when you realise the money was invested in a house building company not houses directly.
  25. Or something like zinc plated "plate washers"... https://www.gsproducts.co.uk/bzp-square-plate-washers/
