John Lewis Posted December 2, 2022 Posted December 2, 2022 How frequently does 160 mm soil pipe need to be supported with pipe clips?

Morning, assuming horizontal so work on 600mm max, 160mm blocked/full is around 20kgs per meter so don’t scrimp on saddles or fixings Edited December 2, 2022 by markc

Guessing that it is running fairly flat carrying lots of rainwater. What is it being fixed to? Think how awful this would be if it failed. Too awful to be asking us on here, without knowing all the circumstances. Also be aware that pipe bends so there will be sagging between supports. When the supports are in, swing from each one as a test. Seriously: i would. 160mm is a lot though. Explain?
Thorfun Posted January 1, 2023 Author Posted January 1, 2023 afternoon all and a happy new year to everyone. I have a quick question please. I'm looking to add a drain valve of some kind to the end of my water manifolds (hot and cold) so I can drain them down if ever necessary. what would you recommend to connect to this 3/4" male connector to allow this to happen?
crispy_wafer Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 Bit like this? I think 3/4 to 22mm compression elbow, then make up the loop, soldered Tee fitting and drain valve.

I guess I could ask my heating engineers to solder a drain valve on for me. and is this a drain off valve? https://www.jtmplumbing.co.uk/pipe-fittings-c433/compression-valves-15mm-28mm-c41/jtm-compression-valves-drain-off-type-a-p898
JohnMo Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 You could use Tectite push fit fittings, quick easy and look way better.
Thorfun Posted January 1, 2023 Author Posted January 1, 2023 23 minutes ago, JohnMo said: You could use Tectite push fit fittings, quick easy and look way better. but I'd still need to get a 3/4 to 22mm fitting, right? and then push fit from there
Thorfun Posted January 1, 2023 Author Posted January 1, 2023 (edited) 2 minutes ago, JohnMo said: They do them also I believe so I've just found! 🙂 https://www.bes.co.uk/22-mm-x-3-4in-tectite-sprint-push-fit-straight-female-connector-push-fit-x-bsp-parallel-f-19183/ quite expensive though. Edited January 1, 2023 by Thorfun added the cost implications!
Thorfun Posted January 1, 2023 Author Posted January 1, 2023 at that cost I'm tempted to get the heating engineers to solder something on when they're back connecting the manifolds up.
PeterW Posted January 1, 2023 Posted January 1, 2023 3/4 female hex nipple then just screw a 3/4 male type A drain cock into it

I have to say I was a bit worried about doing a Google search for a 'female hex nipple'. thought I was heading into @pocster territory there for a second. Edited January 1, 2023 by Thorfun 1

Yep - hex nipple / socket same difference just nothing to grab on that with a spanner but will work fine. If you can’t get a 3/4 male drain cock then get a 1/2 one and just get a 3/3 to 1/2 reducer 2
