  1. Mine is now half way through being fitted. It is brilliant. They are fully rigid and come complete with doors etc, really well packed with cardboard corners, folded so that the corners have extra protection. The carcase, drawers etc are the same colour as the doors (or you can have contrast if you wanted). All the doors have protected film on them I've got 6 base units, 3 tall units and one wall unit for just over £2,000 and laminate worktops (they do granite etc as well). Soft close doors and drawers. My fitter is well impressed with it and says it is much better than the last one (Howden's) he fitted. They are made to order in their own factory. The DIY refers to design and install, I think.
  2. Just out of interest I checked delivery to me from them and it was £100, so £400 sounds really excessive
  3. Mine is similar - access is single level leading to a two storey at the rear. Their is a side retaining section at the bottom, specified by the SE, then double blockwork with insulation up to the level of the upper floor and then timber stud to the ceiling. The attached drawings were for building regs approval High Croft Bungalow b regs-007E.pdf
  4. That's what I'm going to do as I have about 40m of pipe too
  5. I got mine from Wunda - probably not a good name to mention at the moment though. If you're passing anywhere near junction 36 M1, I've got about 12sq m left over
  6. @PeterW On advice from you and Nick I didn't get the stats, will buy those separately. You suggested I got the ones that @JSHarris recommended. Not got them yet.
  7. Sounds like the over inflated price a (now dumped) plumber charged me. 2 men x 2 days - £800 per day each .... In their dreams!!! In fact that makes even her prices look reasonable - if she had done the job she was paid for
  8. Is this necessary of the road is unadopted?
  9. I think it depends on your building control officer. Mine has said it's not important when it's a single house built for yourself. He's very pragmatic about a lot of things. He won't compromise on safety or insulation but beyond that he's happy to be flexible. (He's from a private company, not local authority)
  10. I use https://www.roomsketcher.com/ I only use the free version which only does 2D but there is a paid version which goes, I think, what you need. I find it very easy to use
  11. Totally agree with that comment - your earlier one implied something very different
  12. A much bigger generalisation than mine. I did state that there was obvious bias there and I think that comment is a very rude response, given the context of my comment. There are good and poor in both disciplines. Certainly, in my son's case, he wasn't prepared to do the work at the right time. BUT a good tech is better than a bad architect --- and a damn sight cheaper. AND he certainly has had to try and make unrealistic ideas work.
  13. According to my son, an architect technician, (obvious bias) 'Architects come up with designs and the technicians have to make them work - if you can find one, your best bet is a technician with vision'. He clearly sees himself under that banner, (He wanted to be an architect but couldn't stomach how long it took). I didn't use him because he was, a) working long hours and out his house about 12 hours a day and b) We are too much alike, clash frequently and he didn't like some of my ideas (don't employ family LOL). He has, however, been invaluable in spotting issues along the way.
  14. If you can recommend someone that would be great - I'll admit it has scared me a bit - I know there are some dodgy characters out there but I just dread to think what could have happened

    Hi

That's a good idea, I still need a carpet for my stairs so will go and have a look
  16. vinyl cushionfloor mainly but need carpet on stairs
  17. Oh Yes converted the video DSCF1416_x264.mp4 DSCF1416_x264.mp4
  18. Very good advice I think. I very much doubt he will turn up, I messaged him on facebook to say that he shouldn't come as my flooring hadn't been delivered (it has) and I was rethinking. And he hasn't even seen it. I suspect he has bought an 'amount' of heroin and is out of it somewhere. But if he does turn up that is what I am going to say.
  19. When he came to quote there was another guy with him. I assume he told them.
  20. All in the space of a few hours. I did a video but it's an AVI file so I can't upload it (Pics posted with permission)
  21. Much as I would like to see him caught out, I live alone and I don't want him marking my card. Apparently when clean he is a good fitter but he uses heroin and never stays clean long.
  22. I suspect he's well out of town now. He's a crook and I don't want him near the place. I have to go out, leaving workers in the new house that isn't yet occupied. Rather not risk him taking key impressions or anything similar. Other workers have left tools in the house when they have been coming regularly. Suspect some of them may have 'disappeared' if he'd left it a couple more days before disappearing
  23. Just had a really lucky escape. I asked this guy to lay my flooring. There was something about him that irritated me but no real red flags. It was going to be today but I put him off until tomorrow. Another guy knocked on the door earlier this morning looking for him. I said that I had postponed the job until tomorrow. And that I had let him know on Tuesday. 'Why?' was my next question, 'have you lost him?' 'Yes - there's a lot of people looking for him. He's done a runner with a lot of money that customers had paid up front to buy materials.'
  24. I could have got indemnity for around £150 (unenforceable covenant about not building forward of current building line). I didn't take it at this stage. I then needed it in order to get the loan I needed for my build. The 'beneficiaries' who clearly don't know about the covenant (Or they would have approached from a different angle) put in a standard objection to the build (loss of view). Because of this the premium was elevated to £450. In my experience, preplanning would have been much cheaper.

    Hi

Yesterday I ordered my chosen vinyl. I am having a cushionfloor vinyl throughout. They called back to say it was out of stock. So I went for my second choice (which I preferred in some ways but went for a more neutral option originally). Yep that's fine. A call back this morning. Yes they have the stock but there is an issue as an edge is torn, H 'Is there one length that missing half a metre matters?'. M 'Yes and no - the offcut was being used elsewhere. Can you credit that amount but still send it (can hide it under furniture) and give me a discount as well.' H 'Well, yes, we can do that - but I will have to consult with my manager about the level of discount.' 3 hours later - a very hesitant sales guy H 'I'm afraid there is another issue. You have ordered 5 m of the 2m wide material; how much do you really need as though our stock is showing 100 sqm, there is actually only 4 linear m in stock.' FFS, I need 4.6m. Think, think, think - M 'How long before you will have it in stock?' H 'Errr, well, we haven't actually ordered it as our stocks showed we had plenty so probably at least 4 weeks, maybe 6.' For once my brain was relatively in gear. M 'Ok, the 2m wide is for my hallway so there is no major furniture going there, so it's a pain but not an insurmountable problem if this is delayed for a few weeks. I can work round this. - You will discount this for me though won't you?' (I'm learning!) lol. H 'Thank you for being so reasonable, I was dreading making this call - I will push for the best discount for you,' We'll see what happens lol but it's a bit back in the coffers for me.
