Yes indeed. My timber frame is clad in 100mm thick wood fibre board and then rendered. That system can certainly be used on brick houses so I see no reason why not on a concrete build.

What is it spanning over that could not have normal foundations?

Act II - To Buy or Not To Buy
ProDave commented on AliMcLeod's blog entry in A house! A house! My kingdom for a house!
That's an interesting site and house design. If I am reading it correctly, the house is built into the hillside with the principle level one floor up. The fact the plans show steps up to the entrance, I take it you have got a building control exemption from the requirements for ramped access to the house? There is a clause that allows you to be exempt where site conditions are not practical, and that seems to be one such example. If I understand it as well, the lack of ramped access also exempts you from a lot of the accessibility rules inside the house as well. -

Can I give an off the cuff suggestion? Delete the Washing machine. How many people go on holiday and expect to do the washing? My SWMBO certainly does not. Instead, offer a laundry service for a nominal charge, so you (or your SWMBO) does their washing for a small fee.

Duff 3-Way Valve or Hot Water Cylinder?
ProDave replied to Onoff's topic in Boilers & Hot Water Tanks
I had that in a previous house. THAT is when I learned NEVER EVER have a common return on 2 heating circuits (seemed a great way to save pipe) as the unused heating system seemed to get a bit of convection flow backwards so 1 rad got warm when it should have been off. -
Looks nice, simple and efficient use of space. Probably the only thing I would do different is split the cupboard so there's a "coat and shoe" cupboard next to the entrance door, and a small wardrobe from the bedroom.
-
Very nice. Now make me a much larger one, then make it the middle pane of a 3G window unit.

This is what Nick is trying to describe If the wall was boarded with plasterboard, then the soil pipe will just be touching the wall. Likewise the cistern screws directly through the plasterboard into a dwang fitted there to catch the screws. A simple cheap bent pan connector fits perfectly. Same will apply to Barney's horizontal run waste pipe.

Why are my LED flood lights semi-illuminated when off?

You write a certificate with a lot on LIM or N/A and they accept it because all they want is a bit of paper that nobody ever reads or understands.- 29 replies

We need to see that pan connector....... All looking good. But that pan would not pass muster with my SWMBO. She has a thing about not having "ledges" for dust to settle on, and that includes not having an exposed U bend. We both had to go into town last week to find one that satisfied my My <£100 budget and her "no ledges" criteria.

Re LV and wiring regs. I once wired a very remote public toilet. It had a 12V battery, a solar panel and small wind turbine to charge it, and it powered a small fan to ventilate a composting toilet, and a small 12V light. Building control still insisted on an Electrical Installation Certificate.- 29 replies

Is that REALLY a flexible pan connector? It looks like that horrible flexible ducting for extract fans to me.

Bath Surround / Boxing In, and concealed pipework

Is that the one he's going to saw in half for @Crofter ? -
A dose of bleach will have that sealant clean and shiny in no time. Forget all your "bathroom cleaning" products,. neat bleach works wonders. I paint it on with a paint brush. leave for a while then rinse off.

It is EE that have submitted the planning application so I assume it will be their mast and service. So you don't use a "phone" and tether it (as I assumed you would) you use a 4G data modem?
-
Okay I have to ask. but. Can anyone else see a certain irony, in using a mobile phone service, to provide your broadband connection, to use a VOIP service to make a telephone call. I have to ask the very dumb question, why not just use the mobile phone to make the call? I have a serious interest as there is a planning application for an EE 4G mast in line of sight of our plot, so we might actually some time get a decent 4G signal. If I can sort out the technicalities, like a decent BB allowance and the ability to make and receive calls at the same time as using the BB (is that even possible?) I just might ditch the land line.
-
Was this a new series or an old one? I remember an old one where they did this and it was a good demonstration just how big you can go and still be legally classed as a "caravan" hence exempt from building control.

Two 45 degree single socket bends one into the other might give enough set back.

BT/Openreach New Connection

See my own phone connection thread. I managed to order a new phone line without having my address on the postcode database. -
Every bricklayer I have ever seen just rolls the DPC onto bare blocks, than lays the mortar for the next course onto the DPC.

Just write "unheated" on the plans? I have an attached garage. There is no mention on the plans of any heating, i am not expecting anyone to insist on insulation levels or air tightness of the garage, but I will be insulating it for my own benefit. Being a single garage under the limit it does not require any specific ventilation provision, though building regs do say in those conditions you should not attempt to achieve a high level of air tightness.

Act I - Finding a Plot

I believe they took a gamble and bought it as "amenity land" without any planning permission. -
Act I - Finding a Plot

That view looks familiar. There was a "building the dream" house I am sure in the recent series on that side of the Forth with an almost identical view. I wonder if you know that house? I suspect it may be closer to the bridges than you are?
