  1. The roof is on and Im nearly watertight. I built with Logix ICF, if you are interested you're welcome to come for a look around
  2. Hi @AjitSingh213 I am also self building for the first time just outside Bristol. My plot was found by buying a ropey cottage and then demolishing.
  3. Can you get them stacked up, somewhere out of the sun and put some weight on top. Few concrete blocks high down the length should stop then moving too much
  4. It's Polarwall Here's the link to the Instagram account for the build https://instagram.com/tonyandnessecobuild?igshid=5w1qifz4igvj
  5. I used Antony at JTA. http://www.jta.uk.com/ Was always available on the end of the phone if required.
  6. You could use a timber substructure but it would rot eventually especially the uprights which would be stood on wet ground
  7. If you want a level threshold use decking pedestals externally. The water flows between the boards and away. https://www.externalworksindex.co.uk/entry/140142/Buzon-UK/Decking-support-pedestals-for-apartment-terraces/#
  8. It was a big pot of money, not any more though!
  9. Cheers @nod ill keep looking then. Scaffold will be up and I can sort the garbage
  10. I wanted to bring mine in at £50/m but its looking like nearer £70 now. Currently undecided but leaning towards Wetherby 3.0mm K textured. WBS-Thin-Coat-Systems.pdf
  11. Depends on the height you need to cover, i'm going to use slates for the area between bottom of render bell cast and ground level
  12. Does anyone have any experience using Omniguard?, claims that it can be sprayed or brushed onto windows and will peel off even after being left on for >12 months. I've not yet enquired for a quote, but Im going to guess its not cheap
  13. Nothing wrong with cavity wall at all but it is harder to achieve U values close to 0.1 and levels of airtightness associated with passive house. @mr chris, when the risks of socialising are reduced you're welcome to view my ICF new build just outside Bristol. The ICF is still on show inside and out and will be for a while yet.
  14. That's promising thanks, I thought 2" was closer to 60mm https://www.plasticpipeshop.co.uk/PVC-Pipe-Measurements-OD-ID-Wall_ep_53-1.html https://www.plasticpipeshop.co.uk/ABS-Pipe-Measurements_ep_54-1.html Only one way to find out for sure and order a few
  15. Yes a 50mm would fit inside but that seems like it's asking for trouble. I need an elbow fitting that I can solvent weld preferably. Failing that a larger diameter pipe that could go up and over the outlet and then hope it never backs up.
  16. Contractor has fitted single ply flat roof, all seems good They have left me a 56mm outside diameter Sarnafil T Drain outlet to connect on to. A quick email to Sika Sarnafil and they suggested using a jubilee clip, ? really?? Contractor says a standard pvc pipe will work, but 56mm seems an odd size, too big for 50mm and too small for 63mm. The connection will be inside a ceiling cavity so needs to be 100%. Any ideas?
  17. This is the route I wanted to take but the Medite Tricoya Extreme was prohibitively expensive. I settled for Medite Exterior, which has a 15 year guarantee (instead of 50+) and as long as I keep the paintwork good it should last.
  18. My ecology mistake was to withdraw too much too early on. I was under the (incorrect) impression that I would be paying for a valuation before each draw down. Now that I have enquired about withdrawing some more I have been told that because of my LTV I can continue to withdraw without a valuation or even administration fee upto a surprising amount. The process is also very fast, so from applying for more funds to cash in account has been 48hrs.
  19. Thanks chaps. I didn't think the threshold would extend the whole width of the door including the frame but that makes sense to me now.
  20. Bit of an idiots question, and not just applicable to Rationel, but with a cill detail like this: How are the jambs fixed to the threshold? And if they are not, what stops the jambs spreading apart at the bottom before and during installation? 21. Prices from £450+Vat and this should be as simple as a connection could be. I will make some enquiries with the DNO, but I'm wondering whether I'll have to say it's a business premises as it certainly isn't a dwelling. It might be the dog house though if I don't get off the internet on valentine's Day
  22. I've been offered a piece of land to rent, somewhere I can put my cabin and the rest to be used as an allotment. There is an overhead Low Voltage power line running across the land and a telegraph pole close to where I would sit the cabin. Is it possible the DNO would allow a new connection to the cabin? I guess they'd see it as a temporary structure without an address, would this make it ineligible? My thinking would be to have a prepaid meter, on a tarif without a standing charge, exactly like I have on site at the moment.
  23. Sounds good @Russell griffiths Did you paint blowerproof liquid all around your reveals prior to installing your windows? Seems counterintuitive to make an airtight seal onto EPS which is not airtight
  24. Personally I skipped a lot of questions that weren't of interest. Was sure to answer Q51 though "Currently only a proportion of new dwellings are required to be airtightness tested. Do you agree with the proposal that all new dwellings should be airtightness tested?"
  25. A consultation from the Department of Housing, Communities and Local Government is coming to end on Friday. If you agree that future homes should be built to produce significantly less CO2 than they do at present click the link and give your opinion. https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/TQW8GQ9 Its open to anyone with an interest, including builders and home occupiers (everyone surely?!) AECB have uploaded a webinar discussing some of their objections to the Future Homes Plan.
