I think you’d still need the OSB layer if using GRP. You need a solid, sound and flat surface for the best results. If it can move/flex it WILL crack. Personally I’d go with EPDM which is more rot proof and more flexible. Edit: @JSHarris is correct that GRP is better for DIY. It’s blooming hard work though.

One thing I’d one to be certain of is that your sarking is thick enough / suitable to ensure the tray bolts and fixation clamp bolts can get a good purchase. With counter batoning you add additional batons to pick up these fixing points and the clamps are the only thing holding your panels to the roof.

Yep, I’ll echo that. Laying flooring (wood, tiles etc) is bloody back breaking and destroys your knees. Get some Voltarol and Deep Heat in stock before you start

Members' experiences of Timber frame and slab suppliers
Barney12 replied to TerryE's topic in Timber Frame
Thanks for the replies guys and the PM from one administrator. All read and taken on board but I stand by my comments. Please refer back to the third sentence of my post. As a great friend of mine once said “opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one” (yes that’s an attempt at injecting some humour) This is a great open, uncommercial forum, long may it continue. -
Members' experiences of Timber frame and slab suppliers

Sorry, I’ve just got to reply to this: The problem is that’s not what happened. The initial respondents to @ryder72 excellent review sought to question his experience, management and interpretation of events . I accept that might have not been what was intended but it is certainly how it read. It is further unfortunate that all those people are I believe founders or administrators of this forum. You are are quite right that what should have happened was a posting of their own experiences positive or negative. -
Touchwood quoted for my project. I was very impressed with the pre-sale efforts. They were though more expensive than MBC.

Thank you. I'll try and remember to do a little video of the 'sound to light' disco mode

@JamesP my only additional comment to this thread is that when I did all the leg work on this at the start of my build I found NuHeat (who you mention in your first posts) massively over-specified the requirements, over estimated the likely RHI payments and was obscenely expensive for their solution. Personally I'd keep shopping. One supplier not mentioned here that seems to have a reasonable reputation is Earth Save Products. When I spoke to them they certainly had a much better grasp of the requirements of a well insulated new build.

That’s some saving. How did you go about finding a match? Was it simply a case of image searching?

Oh boy am I getting sick of this bathroom fittings choosing. So, sinks/basins without overflows? Good/Bad? Pro's no dirt trap no need for a fancy cover (i don't like just a hole!) cleaner lines Cons Flooding!! But is that con such an issue in an adult only house? I don't have a habit of leaving taps on and wondering off whilst a sink fills. I think there is more of an argument with a bath where you're likely to leave the room as it fills. Thoughts? Is it time for a G&T yet?

I know there is a lot of love for Geberit on this forum. BUT........... The boss is not keen on any of the Geberit flush plates, they are all deemed too big (please don’t try an argue with the his logic it IS futile). So then a flush plate by Grohe was spotted in a bathroom showroom and that meets approval. I’m fairly certain it’s this one in this kit: http://www.builderdepot.co.uk/grohe-rapid-sl-1-13m-pack-with-frame-nova-plate-and-fixings.html Ive not found anything negative online and they seem to be cheaper than Geberit (that makes a change for the bosses choices :)). Does anyone have any experience of them?

The only thing I know is that talking to my joiner friend is that they are an absolute bugger to cut! They go through router bits like there's no tomorrow and apparently its pretty unforgiving. I too really like the look of it.

Thanks heavens its not just me. Worse thing is I dropped mine off the tower 3m up. Then picked it up and it wouldn't drive screws. Convinced I'd ruined several hundred pounds worth of tool porn. 20 minutes later, took it out of reverse

So its fixed. Bit hard to describe what we did differently without reams of text but save to say we've secured the flashing down way more robustly than the manufacturers spec. Still no news on the insurance claim but there was NO way I was waiting for their approval before getting it weather tight.

No. Just 32 independent lighting circuits. I was going to add a few more but its only a small house.

LMAO. I would image he's fitting a ceiling pendant and one double socket in each room

My sparky got them from his wholesaler. Denmans? Not sure if they're a national? P.S. I'm not sure they'll do much to be honest and don't lets get this thread off into the stupid metal clad CU b*ll*cks.
-
No. Alas not ! My sparky was happy with the intumescent seals at the backs (you cant see them in the photo) and then fire resistant sealant to fill the holes. The other side is a cupboard so we have full access to the back.
-
Thats time consuming consumer units to be precise. Its certainly one way to releive the evening boredom and stop me drinking so much gin My tame sparky came this morning to check my work and gave me a gold star. Actually he offered me a job

I got aprox 56 linear meters with 2 lifts + gables for £2,000.00 but it was only for 8 weeks hire. When that timescale "ran out" which it off course did very quickly I negotiated a 5 month extension for £1,500.00. The price included up to 3 adaptions for blockworker, renderer etc. The guy was very diligent and after every storm he was up here the next day to check it off.
