  1. Well, there is an interesting point. My planning conditions state that all timber must be dark brown or black and render must be ‘of a neutral tone’. I’ll get round to it at some point but I’d quite like to see how the cedar weathers to grey first (it’s coated with Sioo:x). Or of course I may forget.
  2. If the boss is choosing sofa colours then I assume she’s chosen kitchens and bathrooms? If yes then you’re one up on me
  3. The only choice we had for the high parts of the ceilings was two men on a tower and another on the ground to pass the boards up. It was a bloody faff but there was no other way.
  4. Thanks guys, I’m just waiting for the first person to complain to the National Park It’s probably the most contemporary looking building built round here that I know of and I must admin it looks pretty bloody bold from the open moor. The brise soleil which are being installed across the front to create the Juliet balconies and help with shading will soften it further (they’ll be in cedar to match the dormer cladding) and I guess once the landscaping is done that will help bed it in a bit. But, in the mean time someone will complain
  5. Big day today. Scaffold finally down. I’ve still got a few outside jobs which I’m going to have to do off my tower, just couldn’t justify any more weeks hire! Still soooooo much to do
  6. Another vote for the V8 here (vastly superior in terms of battery life to the V6).You will rarely use a corded vacuum once you have one and imho makes the idea of a central vacuum redundant.
  7. Sorry for going off topic but those doors are bloomin’ lovely!
  8. +1 to Jeremy’s comment about peanut butter. They really can’t resist it Edit: these get mixed reviews on Amazon but mine have always worked faultlessly. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pest-Stop-Trip-Trap-Single-Catches-Alive/dp/B00133QS3G/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1514894314&sr=8-2&keywords=Humane+traps
  9. I don’t like that small tile cut on the left of the main wall. I think you should move the wall
  10. Yes, I just saved £75 on a £400 order of plumbing bits from a selection of sellers. Just added everything to the eBay basket and checked out
  11. For those that may have missed it: https://www.ebay.co.uk/deals?_trkparms=%26clkid%3D707877382797726552
  12. I have a ‘shitoff’ unit like the one Jeremy linked to on a thermostatic mixer outside at the back of the garage. It’s absolutely perfect for washing down dirty dogs/humans after walking on the moor. Wouldn’t be without one now.
  13. Love the ensuites @AliG I think ive decided grey and white is they way I’m going with mine, clean and simple. Are those sinks the Roca ones? I’m sure I’ve looked at something similar. Flooring is lovely too in the dark shade. I’ve got a pile of samples sat on the coffee table in front of me and I’m underwelmed by all of them at the moment.
  14. So from your drawings it would appear that these walls will be completely hidden and are purley structural so why it’s beeing specified in brick is a completely mystery to me as it’s far from the strongest or cheapest option. Go back hard and just say your not prepared to accept the proposal or the cost. The fact that the BC has signed it off is not an issue, it’s just a case of notifying the change.
  15. The honest answer; heaven knows! The thought of all those multiple decisions over styles, colour, price etc etc currently makes me go cold. As you said I need to start by making list of what I need.
  16. So, I'm not far off embarking on second fix. So I really need to start thinking seriously about Kitchens and Bathrooms and gawd knows how many other things like flooring, lighting etc. I've read a couple of articles recently that suggests "real bargains" in the arena of kitchens and bathrooms don't really exist with the big sheds simply inflating prices in November ready to appear to discount from Xmas onwards. So can bargains really be found? Thoughts? Views? Experiences?
  17. That deal expired in 2011
  18. Feck isn't swearing in Ireland :).
  19. My local B&Q is 8 cuts from memory and they’ve never enforced beyond that with me. I guess they have to have a policy in place to stop abusers of the service (and dodgy looking, limp armed welsh plumbers )
  20. Steinel are expensive but absolutely bullet proof in my experience. https://www.fastlec.co.uk/lighting-floodlights-led-floodlights-steinel-led-floodlights/
  21. I knew that size rang a bell. It’s the size of the warehouse barcode labels we use: https://www.labelsonline.co.uk/code-39-barcode-labels-paper-40x25mm-bc1011&P.Height=13&P.LabelColourMaterial=523
  22. Thats not the case with the Future Found product provided by MBC at the time of my install. I believe they we’re trying to achieve it though. However, having just looked at their website there is nothing that suggests they have.
  23. My reply wasn’t completely clear. Here’s the exact text from LABC refusal: Your application form has been reviewed by our technical team and unfortunately we are unable to offer a warranty due to the following: The foundation system proposed is "Future Found" by Build Lite. This system is not acceptable for warranty as it does not have valid third party accreditation (BBA/ETA). Unless an approved system is used we are unable to offer a warranty. By chance was your foundation by MBC previous supplier who’s name escapes me?
  24. LABC wouldn’t insure our MBC build as they wouldn’t insure the passive slab foundation. Like others I went with selfbuildzone direct.
