Just completing the claim form. It was installed to the GSE specification. What is worrying me more is that the system just isn't capable of withstanding the winds in this location.
-
I'm having a very bad day. It seems that the flashing system for the GSE in-roof panel mounts can't cope with Dartmoor winds :(. At least two rows of slates ripped off in the process. Oh feck!

That really is very smart. The Matt black electric radiator is a welcome change from shiny chrome. Can I ask the source? Is that a light fitting to its right? Or have you got the worlds smartest festoon site lighting?

24V gate - what size cables for 25m in duct run?
Barney12 replied to readiescards's topic in Electrics - Other
I might be wrong but that looks like the spec for the gate motors not the control panel psu. As Peter has said the control panel would normally be located close to the gates to allow the various sensor circuits, gate motors and indicators to be connected to the panel. The control panels I researched were all 240v with a transformer to step the motor voltages down to 24v. Remember to add add provision for communication from the house to the gate. I.e. voice and/or video access. Normally CAT5/6 is sufficient. -

Hi Lizzie, did you get the windows from a [1st] window partner? If you do you should have also received the window partner guarantee document which sets out that you can go to Internorm direct in the event that a warranty issue isn’t resolved. Im affraid my experience of Internorm is identical to yours. Appalling service from the installer and no end of issues. We we still have one leaking window. (They are booked to return to rectify) and we too have doors which are near impossible o lock. The installers repsonse was that “they will loosen with age”, this is not accepted and they are returning again. Im away at the moment but if you drop me a PM I’ll send you some HO contact details. To to answer your question: No they aren’t very helpful but contacting them did push our installer along!

You need a good quality polythene Tape with an acrylic or synthetic rubber adhesive. This is the one I’ve used in the past and it’s excellent for frame protection etc. https://www.siteprodirect.co.uk/product/low-tack-pvc-tape/175/proguard-polythene-tape/2319 Persoanlly I wouldn’t rely on the renders to mask up if you are particular. I also would not rely on ensuring a good job with cleaning and wiping as you go. The above tape will also protect against nicks with a trowel etc.

Ecostat S square is a possible. But can I find anywhere that stocks the single outlet (needed for one shower) and the double outlet for bath and two other showers? Hell no, that would just be too simple it it does exist https://pro.hansgrohe.co.uk/articledetail-ecostat-square-thermostatic-mixer-for-1-outlet-for-concealed-installation-15712000.html?fsid=&pageid=&q= but megabad which is who the order is going in with (I think) don’t even list it. Argh!!!!

Hmmm, I think I’m going to need to explain this to the boss. Here we go again, hold on tight
-
Yes. Enough time to get the pack of Peroni out of the fridge downstairs Not that I can remember the last time I had a bath. No time for such luxury
-
Ah, now it makes sense! Why can’t they make things mor descriptive and simple
-
Can some kind sole just sense check my decision process please. As background: After lots of dithering it seems that the Hansgrohe Showerselect range is the chosen mixer/diverter of choice for the bathrooms. After lots of research it seems the term "showerselect" is not an overly helpful description as the units can be used for a bath filler too (they apparently come with a bag of different symbols to denote, showers, baths etc). So in the main bathroom the boss wants a bath filling waste, wall mounted shower (just for hair etc whilst in the bath not for showering) and of course I need the appropriate control/diverter. This unit seems to fit the bill nicely: https://www.megabad.com/hersteller-hansgrohe-showerselect-thermostate-unterputz-2-a-211909.htm However, I then started to get nervous of the fact that Hansgrohe do two different versions of showerselect. The standard flow rate as per the one I linked to which can deliver 26lm and a high flow which delivers 59lm. But, the high flow units don't come with the ability to divert to 2/3 sources, they are single source only. Getting to the point! I can't see that high flow is needed? 26lm is more than my mains water pressure can deliver anyway. I just keep worrying because the title "showerselect" doesn't sound very "bath" (Yes, I know before someone says it. Overthinking it again!)

How to protect oak against plasterers!
Barney12 replied to joe90's topic in Wood & Laminate Flooring
The only sure fire way is to fully mask it off with a good quality masking tape and plastic protection. Any areas which are prone to get knocked by a trowel or hawk would be best protected with something like corex too. A lot depends on how careful your plasterers are. If they are an unknown then protect it to death! Caution: slippery when wet! -
Floor bounce - PosiJoist Floor Vibration checks
Barney12 replied to readiescards's topic in Floor Structures
I'm in no way an expert but can tell you that my strong backs are fixed using a multitude of gas nailed ring shanks to every joist. We actually had a slight squeak in the master bedroom floor when first installed. I pointed it out to Brendan (MBC) and he found that the guys had missed nailing a section of joists to the strong back down the centre of the room. A few minutes of Paslode action later and the squeak was gone. -
Floor bounce - PosiJoist Floor Vibration checks
Barney12 replied to readiescards's topic in Floor Structures
My MBC installed posi joist floor had some webs “missing” on one side. I assumed it was simply the design calcs that specified them. Fortunately we don’t have the bounce issues that the OP has. -
This is exactly what we did. Pumped it out and then just smashed in the sides and covered it over. Ours was not too full, must have been something to do with the numerous cracks in the side walls

I very much doubt it. Their market segment has little desire to be creating ‘home brew’ solutions. I’m not in anyway saying that a Pi and amp are inferior but the vast majority of Bose/Sonos customers just couldn’t be arsed!
-
I agree, the Sonos product range is exceptional. Paired with Spotify it makes for a compelling whole house audio solution. I have wired 4 principal rooms for ceiling speakers and each room is being driven by dedicated Sonos Connect Amps (centrally located). The other rooms will have Play:1 or 3’s for occasional use. The lounge will have a playbar and sub. Add to this SkyQ and you’ve really got whole house AV nailed with a good upgrade path in the future. This is a big departure for me. My previous projects have always had full whole house AV setups from the likes of Xantech (as one example). But, technology has largely left such systems redundant imho. That is unless you’ve really “gone for it” with a fully integrated system from the likes of Crestron or Control4.

So what I said a few posts earlier. Although my reply lacked a good deal of detail. -
Bath Surround / Boxing In, and concealed pipework
Barney12 replied to Onoff's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
I’m not sure there is a bit missing. The crosswater ones I’ve bought don’t come with anything. They just screw into a 1/2” bsp wall plate or angled connector. -
LED light bulbs how long should they last - 3 blown in 24 hours!
Barney12 replied to readiescards's topic in Lighting
The Megaman LED GU10's have a 5 year warranty. BUT, they wont warrant them for that long if they're in a fire rated downlight! Hmmm that will be most scenarios then! I find they last a couple of years, some have lasted longer. Its actually the reason I've gone for standard GU10 downlight fittings in the new build. These "all in one" fittings are great until you cant get them any more and from everyone I've spoken too failures are common even with the expensive brands. -
If only I was paying a sparky. :). Its memyselfandI
-
I went with 50mm. Remember that if you fill too much of the void you've got to consider downlighters getting covered (not an impossible issue but will increase your cost of fitting and choices). I'm really impressed with the sound deadening effects of even just 50mm. I strapped mine tight to the floor above using packing strap and a stapler. The lump you can see in the picture is where it covers the radial duct for the MHRV. Oh..... and its the worse job in the world ever!
