  1. The modulation on your Veissman boiler is market leading. Something like 1:17. With a low loss header, you should be fine. I would keep space somewhere to install a buffer tank if necessary, but I wouldn’t necessarily install one from the get go, as you might not need one if you have a low loss header.
  2. The advantage of installing 4 tados is that most likely your four zones will have slightly different heat loss profiles. So you would benefit by the zone which is most insulated/has most solar gain, will switch off before the others. Also, are you sure you are going to use the four zones identically? We have zoned our house into 10 zones with a Tado thermostat on each. That’sa lot of thermostats, but I’m certain we use the zones all quite differently. Even the three bedrooms that will get most use are completely different, not just on time of the day that kids go to bed vs adults, but also orientation and level of insulation. My children’s rooms: one is east facing the other is west, both have a solid single skin wall plus 42mm of EWI. Whereas our bedroom is West facing with a vanity wall on the west side and a mix of cavity wall and solid single skin wall plus 42mm of EWI. So the use and great loss profiles of all three rooms will be different.
  3. I think that is underselling it a bit (but not a lot). In the Tado range for example, it monitors a few things that you might find useful, such as local (ish) air quality, open window detection, and it also has a geofencing feature that I find very useful. And it also uses machine learning to learn how quickly it takes to warm up each room the thermostat is in and then can adjust your settings (if you have this feature enabled ) to not heat up your room too early and to not turn it off too late. But I agree with the general point that in very well insulated houses with low temperature heating systems that work best if the heating is on all the time that these smart thermostats are probably not worth the money. With our set up, we actually spent almost £800 on a 10 Tado thermostat system because we wanted to have as much control as possible, and as we will be running a gas boiler based UFH we wanted to be as sparing with the gas as possible. Before the works we had a smaller Tado system (about 5 thermostats) and installing the Tado saved us a lot of money. Now that we will be better insulated, the savings from Tado might be less, but I still think we will save.
  4. Ah, that is not what I meant by an override. I would like a PIR sensor that can either run as a PIR sensor or can be entirely overridden. The Steinel wiring sensor only be overridden to have the light remain ON. I would like a sensor that can be overridden so that the light can remain OFF even if the sensor would otherwise be triggered.
  5. Funnily enough, Knightsbridge screwless is the other range i'm considering, also in a mat finish. What's your "4 years later" review of these switches?
  6. I'm considering Click Definity from Scolmore. How has the finish on the plates held up after 4 years of use? Would be great to get your views.
  7. Unfortunately that does not come in matt black, which is what I need. Unfortunately according to the instruction manual, that does not have a manual override. Reading Steinel's catalogue, I see that although many of their lights have a manual override, none of their PIR sensors do, which is a shame as most of their products do come in matt black. The search goes on.
  8. I think the alternative is to have an additional switch that can transfer the circuit from going through the PIR sensor or not.
  9. I'm looking for an indoor PIR sensor that has this functionality. Can you recommend one?
  10. This matches my experience of a similar issue.
  11. Will touch wood, we’ve managed to avoid it, so far at least. Our screed was poured on 11 October, no cracks yet. Not sure how my builder set it up, though he did use a couple of courses of engineering brick for the bottom of the only wall that divides two areas of screed and also line every wall with foam, but I think that’s standard.
  12. Cheapest place to buy one?
  13. gives the door slightly more projection when open though not sure that is a benefit.
  14. Why would they need adjusting? Steel and glass doors in a steel frame. Not expecting any shrinkage, movement or warping.
  15. See attached. Door Hinges.pdf
  16. I'm getting a crittall style front door from Fabco. I've been asked by Fabco whether I want steel butt Hhinges, which come as standard, or if I want to pay £40 extra to "upgrade" to steel bullet hinges. When I asked what the difference was in performance, they told me that their butt hinges were the hinges used when they had their system certified to PAS24, so if I wanted the hinges which have the certification I need to get butt hinges. I am already deviating from the PAS24 design slightly, so I won't get the certification anyway, but just wondered if anyone else had knowledge of the differences? Is one more secure than the other? Or is it just an aesthetic choice?
  17. @four_candles what model LG washing machine do you have?
  18. Very good deal on the Linksys velop mesh system at the moment which has tested really well, beating the Deco M9 in both download and upload speeds (though not sure i understand what their exact configuration was. Full article here: https://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/review-tp-link-deco-m9-plus-review-mesh-networking-system-smart-homes/performance-analysis-conclusion-8
  19. Do I understand correctly that this is not a mesh system? If so, what's the disadvantages of mesh compared to this?
  20. Some mesh systems give you only limited functionality without a subscription, and fuller functionality with a small charge of £2 or £3 a month.
  21. I had a facetime call with my project manager the other day whilst he was on site and I was in the office. I found it incredibly useful as he could walk around the site and point his phone at different areas and talk me through issues and explain them to me visually. You can't do that with a video doorbell.
  22. Hello, what was the conclusion of your test? Which product did you keep and which did you send back?
  23. @jack is yours a Ring Video Doorbell? If so, do you have the cheaper 2.4Ghz only version, or one of the more expensive models that also comes with 5Ghz functionality?
  24. So I’ve been looking at Aimee police approved galvanised steel sheds made by Aasgard in Yorkshire. Any one know their products? Other competitors I should be considering?
