  1. That’s not really doable or desirable. That’s not really doable or desirable. I was thinking something like this might work, but I need it in either a matt black or brushed brass finish. Plus, this is crazy expensive for a TP holder! https://www.parkstreetbathrooms.com/Store/product-details/Axor-Urquiola-Toilet-Roll-Holder-42436000.htm?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=surfaces&gclid=CjwKCAiAtdGNBhAmEiwAWxGcUhYscPWapZjL5LIw40_qeqhdbGoSlDKL203ZRmH7Zy7dK8p4aB-yoxoCl74QAvD_BwE
  2. How do you keep toilet paper dry in a wet room? I’ve seen the TP holders that have the flap of metal over them, but they look badly designed to me. Below is a picture of my rather small wet room. It would have been smaller but I made the architect borrow a bit of space from the corridor to make the shower further away from the toilet. Maybe I should just place a roll loose on the window cill but to me that looks awful.
  3. It’s a mist system, so puts out aerosol sized particles of water. for some reason it needs to go indoors,,I guess to stop it freezing.
  4. No, I know nothing about it, other than it is cheaper. I only need 15m or 16m as I had already bought quite a bit of pro clima with which I’ve done most junctions. Just have a sliding door frame and Velux left to do. One Pro Clima tape in the 150mm width was going to cost £96 inc delivery + VAT. This worked out at £54 for a slightly shorter 25m roll (but still 150mm wide).
  5. In the end, I’ve given up on Pro Clima. Have gone with Isocell Airstop Flex Adhesive Tape, as is about 25% cheaper.
  6. The wall is a bit tricky to describe. It's an original external brick wall of a 1930s semi house (no cavity, just double brick). But because the wall was rather damp, a RICS surveyor advised us to line it with a breathable membrane and then put metal studs in to create an air gap and then plasterboard onto those studs. So it's effectively a stud wall fixed to an old brick wall. I can't really make it floor mounted as no space. Other option is to suspend the shelf from the joists above, which are brand new posi joists, though the chipboard floor is already down, so only way to hang from them is to hang from the bottom joist, but I guess that's okay? Will complicate the ceiling closure. Not possible to hang from another wall or two.
  7. I need to fit a water tank that weighs 40kg quite high up on a wall in my utility room. This is for a sprinkler system pump/tank and the company fitting it has said that normally they only fit these things low down, but that they are happy to bring specialist lifting equipment on the condition that I build a shelf and demonstrate that it is "sufficiently reinforced" to hold the weight of the pump/tank. The shelf needs to be 700mm in length and 350mm in depth. The issue is that not only do i need to build something that will hold the weight, but it needs to be perceived by the sprinkler company to hold the weight, and I don't know how strict they are going to be. Anyone recommend any heavy duty brackets? What shelving material would you use? 24mm ply? Metal? Don't want to spend too much, but need it to be strong.
  8. I actually only need half a 30m roll (the really wide 150mm one). If anyone has some to sell, I will happily buy it off you if you can post it first class to London by Friday (I need it next week).

  10. Thanks, but I'm after a water based one, not electric.
  11. Can anybody recommend a supplier that is likely to have a contemporary styled towel heater in brushed nickel or matt black in stock and available for delivery within 3-4 days? The one I ordered never showed up and my plumber is almost finished with first fix of everything else.
  12. amazon.de is not the cheapest, but they claim to deliver within 5-6 days and usually amazon's logistics is second to none. I only ordered one item, so I will be below the £135 gullibility threshold set by Boris. Above that threshold, I'm not sure if amazon.de include the import tax for you but I suspect not. It really beggars belief how so many people still think Brexit was a good idea.
  13. I recommend this German site: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Moll-Tescon-Vana-Allround-Tape/dp/B001QSE8NK/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=pro+clima+tescon+vana+tape&qid=1638894113&sr=8-1
  14. I think I need to clarify my original question. I've already decided to do the walls out of block, so it's really about figuring out how to find a secure sliding gate and how to attach that to the blocks, and then how to build the flower bed in a secure way that also has a pitch to it. The bike will be locked inside the shed with a fairly substantial "gold" rated lock. My "gold" rated lock requires 30 minutes with an angle grinder to break through it. Our bedrooms are just above this bike shed, so as long as breaking into it takes at least that long and requires making a lot of noise (which I imagine it will), it will be pretty secure at least when we are there. The alternative is to buy something like this: https://www.gardenstreet.co.uk/garden-storage-c14/bike-stores-c21/trimetals-protect-a-cycle-store-p4424/s10212?cid=GBP&gclid=CjwKCAiAhreNBhAYEiwAFGGKPPzi7XQQOlvabHS0FaOPsOCl2sDW75sKQcLqGkiod7EqnPjicvVTAhoCp_MQAvD_BwE but I'm hoping to be able to build something which is slightly nicer for less money.
  15. I've already agreed the price for labour and wire. I just need to supply the actual detectors. The TLC site has a few options: https://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Main_Index/Fire_and_Smoke/Smoke_Alarms_Mains_Lithium/index.html I guess I'll have to start researching this as well.
  16. Just learning about this after a conversation with our BCO. How much do I need to budget for 9 x LD1 smoke alarms plus 1 heat alarm that are all mains wired and interlinked?
  17. Hmmm … I now need to remortgage to find an extra £50k. Ouch.
  18. @Omnibuswoman sorry to hear you are going through this, sounds awful. If it really is libellous, you should sue both the council and the neighbour in question. Libel is quite a technical area, so worth running it by a specialist. Carter Ruck is a law firm that is well known in this area. They might give you an initial consultation over the phone for free.
  19. I want to get a slotted basin waste to match my vado brushed nickel basin taps. The only option appears to be this: https://www.vado.com/individual-ind-395-brn According to the video on that page, this will work just as a slotted waste, which is important to me because it's a kids bathrooms so needs to deal with a situation where they leave the tap running. Will this definitely act like a slotted waste? Or does it depend on the sink?
  20. I recommend using floor tite screws, not nails. Use the opportunity to fasten down any that might have even the tiniest bit of squeak to them.
  21. Just bumping this up in case anybody knows the answer.
  22. For a box that fits 3 x double sockets (i.e. 6 sockets in total) not including the actual sockets, was £205 plus VAT for their "cheap" range and £330 plus VAT for their "nicer" range. To this you need to add about £60 for the sockets plus delivery which was about £25. They bespoke make the lid so it is exactly the right depth to have the tile or engineered floor finish glued on so that it is completely flush with the floor, that is the main advantage of this company as far as I can tell, just a very expensive way of achieving this. Surprised there isn't a cheaper alternative that can do the same thing.
  23. My electrician recommended this company. Had a look at the minima trimless range. Very nice, and you can even survive the thickness of the lid so that you can fit whatever floor finish you are doing in the rest of the room into it. Only problem: £££££ When I got the quote I thought there must have been a mistake. No mistake.
  24. To deal with the environmental concerns, I came across this. I wonder if it really does anything or if it's just marketing gimmickery.
  25. Interesting, just googled it and found this. Very clever. How do I know if I will have a draw/downdraft issue? We are getting stove installed soon and haven't tried the chimney at our house yet. Would rather know now whilst scaffold is still up to enable an OH cowl to be easily installed if necessary. But don't want to spend the money on one just in case.
