  1. Just beginning my heat pump search and think I have seen the pumps discussed in this thread or what look very similar on eBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/IVT-9kW-Air-Source-Heat-Pump-Surplus-Stock-Clearance-FREE-UK-DELIVERY/153137536987?hash=item23a7b55fdb:g:88AAAOSwICpaThkM Truth be told I'm not quite ready for one yet but I thought it wise to keep an eye on eBay to get a feel for prices. I was fully expecting to buy at auction but these look a decent price for something with a warranty of sorts so it might be worth making the purchase a little ahead of schedule. How are people getting on with them and how many have managed to set them up for DHW + UFH as discussed? Thanks
  2. For Icynene I was quoted £33m2 @ 300mm for an I-Beam roof. For comparison our best Warmcell quote was £23m2 @ 300mm thickness.
  3. I think it would definitely be worthwhile changing to 400mm centres. Not a huge cost increase and increased peace of mind in terms of bounce. Ours are 400mm spacing on a span of about 3.5-4m varying with 22mm Caberdeck glued and screwed and seem rock solid.
  4. Certainly did, apologies.. https://www.svw2000.co.uk
  5. Our I-Beam frame was cut by Severn Valley Timber prior to delivery. Everything from notching the ridge beam where rafters land, sole plates for stud positions etc was perfect. You need a machine file for them to work from and we used Cullen Timber Design for this. Both highly recommended.
  6. How about using an online currency broker? https://www.hifx.co.uk
  7. Have you seen the detail issued by Velfac below? The cladding etc doesn't actually go back into the structural opening if you detail it similarly it merely sits flush with and the window overhangs the frame. This might mean your frame dimensions don't need to alter? V200E.W1.04.B.J.001 - Jamb copy.pdf
  8. Starting to work towards our first fix and coming up with lighting solutions. We're big fans of the perimeter wall lighting in the picture below (Dualchas Boreraig) and wondered if anyone has done similar and if so how? Strip LED behind a false facade?
  9. Would this be OK if going for an internal render finish?
  10. Similar to ours in some ways, blockwork wall below timber frame. I've just dressed the airtight membrane down from the frame onto the blockwork and will seal to the block with something like Gorband Fortax 6400 which is a mastic type product. I think I'll then use mesh over the join before plastering to prevent cracking. The other option is to use a jointing tape with a built in fleece/mesh to deal with the cracking issue.
  11. Where/what is your airtight layer above the basement? How are you planning on finishing the outside of the blockwork?
  12. As mentioned £400 extra sounds a huge amount, have you got a link to the tray? My folks have recently fitted a Mira Flight 1200x900mm and it was around £150 I think. Might be a budget offering but seems decent enough so far. In fact a quick google suggests the same tray can be had in a 'safe' non slip version for about £50 more which makes the £400 seem excessive.
  13. Yeah that's where I've seen them. 10 year Guarantee but I don't know how that works in practice and I know Velux have a good reputation with theirs.
  14. Has anyone installed or used a Rooflite window? It looks like the holding company is the parent of Velux so I wouldn't be surprised if they were made in the same factory. Interested in any opinion as they are quite a lot cheaper than the equivalent Velux / Keylite.
  15. We've got a lean to on our corrugated roof. Cladco are making an angled flashing to sit under the main roof 200x200mm which will lap onto the lean to. I was then planning on putting the foam closer strip between the flashing and the corrugated profiles to help seal the gap. For the sides where the lean to walls hit the main roof I'm a bit less sure. I may use lead tucked in behind our timber cladding and then dressed several valleys across the corrugated and also trim the barge boards to match the roof angle.
  16. Fascinating. Very similar to our version of events. We were dismissed at LPA level as being in open countryside due to being outside a settlement boundary. We appealed and the inspectorate found in our favour.
  17. The restrictive covenants for our site were shown on the TP1 document which we had to sign prior to the transfer and we had to get a written exemption for one of them from the seller. Presumably the covenant in question goes back to before your ownership and has travelled up the chain so to speak?
  18. Very late to see this but it looks great. Can I ask how you ventilated the steel sheets at the ridge?
  19. We were initially going for standing seam but have switched to either corrugated or box profile on grounds of cost. SS is much cheaper abroad I can't understand why it isn't available more readily in the UK! One of the box profiles I've seen has fairly wide flat sections compared to most between the ridges and might look pretty similar to a standing seam? Most are spaced around 120-150mm and this one is 270mm so quite a lot more.
  20. Indeed. The standing seam looks very smart @JamesP - infact it made me revisit my Tata SS quote from Catnic earlier today as we're hoping to order our roof within a week or so! Same conclusion reached that it just won't work for our budget but a great product for sure. I'm excited by the potential for the corrugated with some careful detailing like we've discussed before on this thread. Hope your site kicks on soon @Visti @Cpd thanks for that. We've had samples of the Plastisol and have been worried about how glossy they seem. I think it's a combination of a flat surface on the sample piece and the ability to move it around in the light which is exaggerating the issue. The more corrugated roofs I see installed the less 'shiny' they seem and we're v.close to confirming an order - either anthracite or blue slate I think.
  21. @Cpd Looks superb, is that a plastisol finish and what colour did you opt for?
  22. Good work, this is our preferred treatment plant so it's great to see real world issues worked through and noise was a concern of mine.
  23. I'm still unable to make the calculator work for some reason having tried again, the drop down boxes aren't available for selection and a message claiming protected cells cannot be modified stops me in my tracks. Would someone with a spare 2 minutes who can use it mind doing a calculation comparing the following wall build ups? 20mm Larch cladding 100mm cavity 11mm OSB 300mm Warmcell vs 3 x 100mm Rockwool flexi Batts (0.038) 11mm OSB 38mm Cavity 12mm PB & SKIM I'd like to know the difference replacing the Warmcell with Rockwool would make in terms of house comfort but can find no other calculator online to try. Many thanks
  24. Might be something of use on here? https://www.gabionbaskets.co.uk/gabion/gabion-wall-standard-design
