  1. Thank's all for the replies and advice, it's helped reinforce what I had thought in the first place, that the concrete slotted fence posts are not strong enough.
  2. Thanks punter, I will look at that as an option. The customer is somebody I've worked for before so he wants me to do the work this time and now wants me to do it the way the landscape gardener has suggested but I'm not comfortable with it. I know a 1m slope is not much but it's 20 ton of material plus water
  3. I am struggling with a project I've got and need some help. I have quoted to level a garden by installing gabion cages as a retaining wall and filling the area with mixed hard core and finishing it to accept artificial grass, a competitor has suggested to him to use concrete slotted fence posts and concrete bases then back fill with soil. It is my opinion that this is not structurally good enough, my worry is the soil will get water logged and slide against the concrete fence which is not adequate to hold it. The area is 8.5m wide 8m long with a slope of 1m, if anybody has got technical knowledge or can sign post me to somewhere I can get the information that would be great, I will need to go back to my customer and show them the evidence if it's structurally sound or not. Thanks in advance
  4. Thanks for your response everybody, the garden in picture is a friend who's asked me to level it and astroturf but as it's 8m x8m with a 1m slope, the cost of a retaining wall and fill material was too much for him as we still had to add astroturf. To put it in perspective for him I've asked him to get 2 quotes from landscape gardeners and I'm expecting it to be £4000 - £5000. I've already replaced his fence (see picture).
  5. Hi Guys, I'm looking at the options of leveling the garden and was considering, decking with artificial turf on top. I've looked at easigrass but now trying to decide on the most cost effective boards to use, decking is about £14 per square meter, I've also priced marine ply but the only thing that seems cheaper is OSB but not confident I'll get much life out of it with the amount of rain we have. Any advice or knowledge on suitable base boards?
  6. Hi Everybody I'm new to the site, from Manchester I've got an engineering background, professional health and safety manager, always tried to do my own work on the houses I've had. Last year I started tree cutting, fencing etc and made a bit f money from it, bought a bit more equipment and next year going to try and get more jobs, probably get a van and see how it goes
