No platitudes here, I was actually trying to tie @Nickfromwales down on whether something was fact or opinion...

I've a big roll of spray booth fleece filter ? -
@Conor, you still need more rail?

there should be a slip layer of polythene on top of the insulation which will carry on up, and stop any chance of flotation

RED (Renewable energy devices) ASHP Brand?
dpmiller replied to ashthekid's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
I had them quote me as I was interested in using a local product, but they were unwilling to offer the ASHP without the zone system which would have necessitated a totally different plumbing cheme to what I'd already preinstalled. In a different situation then yes, I quite possibly would have gone with them. If you're interested, call them up for a chat but make sure to have your heat calculations, number of zones etc to hand as it'll get technical... There is no doubt that a lot of thought has gone into the design to eek the best efficiency out, and they certainly are well built. -
Combi, Storage Combi or electric shower?
dpmiller replied to Rachieble's topic in Boilers & Hot Water Tanks
You can do as many electric showers as you like, as long as only one runs at a time... Garo do a CU for the Irish market for exactly this purpose. -
10%? probably more than 50%...

RED (Renewable energy devices) ASHP Brand?
dpmiller replied to ashthekid's topic in Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
Very well thought out and engineered, but pricey and their package includes a (very clever) zone control system that uses variable speed pumps, and a variant of the Harlequin Heatstream thermal store. I'd contend they were more suited to small schools/ nursing homes and the like when cascaded. their design engineer is a clever bod, and great for a chat tho... -
no chance the boss has cracked away from the cylinder shell? Any and all of those techniques should have sealed the threads.

Dry ice in a can, is there such a thing?

Just to close this off, I ended up going with VOIPify, and acquired a Cisco SPA232D Dect-capable ATA. They're happy to port the BT number over when the time is right and I've got a "nice" local number on the accout for now that I might just hang on to as well when we move, for the extra quid a month... All working happily now, after a bit of a faff getting the right ports opened on the router. It's quite odd. All the speedtests I do come out pretty poor (provider is Three), in the 1.5 to 4Mb/s region down, up slightly faster. But a recent stress test proved surprising- Full screen HD video on the laptop, another video on the phone, and big son gaming on his laptop while chatting on his phone; no glitches and Andy reckoned his connection was more responsive than he normally sees on the FTTC at home. I'll not complain tho...

Selecting DHW cylinder for ASHP + solar thermal
dpmiller replied to muhrix's topic in Introduce Yourself
I'm doing this except with a coil to segregate, as the thermal store also has input from a boiler stove. Stove is on the open vented side (store contents) and all flow from the ASHP passes through the lower coil of the tank en-route to the UFH and rad circuits.- 25 replies

Selecting DHW cylinder for ASHP + solar thermal

As well as Telford, have a chat with the guys at World Heat cylinders, they've no problem doing bespoke and already supply some of the ASHP companies.- 25 replies

A bypass valve is my strategy, but it's a wee bit noisy at the flow rates the ASHP wants to see.
-
What's the thread size and tube diameter @Nickfromwales ? Should be able to hunt it down
-
At 40c you'll need all the heat you can I'd guess, but yes the buffer will slowly drop until the ASHP comes back on.
-
IIRC the iVT will throttle it's power back if the delta exceeds 10c. I can't recall- are you directly connected or is there a buffer tank involved?
