Assuming we get to 100% renewables, we (as far as my chemistry knowledge goes) will still need oil to make many of the plastics we are dependant upon. iron ore will always need smelting and that requires coal/coke although you could probably use charcoal. Energy shortage, fuel shortage, food shortage, toilet roll shortage …. We still need to cut the population!

The solution for all self builds from BD
markc replied to Pocster's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
It would get kicked off site in minutes for H&S breaches. it is pretty cool tho -
I would leave it. Ice on the casing will change the sound, if it’s working ok let it sort itself out
-
If the wind blew the leaves around and blocked the drain hole them maybe not. It looks like a tide line around the side indicating water has been up to board level.

The split at the top isn’t good but I think your problem is drainage. Possibly leaves blocking the outlet has allowed water level to rise and find holes.

Can you explain more? Why do you need to cut from inside? I have seen a rod with a blade set into it that expands as you rotate to cut from the inside, needs to be bore specific tho -
Concrete Floor Repair / Levelling
markc replied to BrennaBoy's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Hi, you could just pour self levelling but the voids would just gobble up extra material. I would fill the large voids with a 3:1 or 4:1 sharp sand and cement. Before filling remove any loose material and bond with pva/water. Then trowel and float the fairly dry mix in and tamp down to compact it into the voids. Easy to do and you may find you don’t need to self level if the rest of the floor is pretty good -
Hi, try turning it up a bit, or even to max for a short while. Good chance it will clear and run smoothly, then you can take it down a bit at a time. A boiler trying to run too low will not burn cleanly
-
What flow temp are you running it at? Have you turned the temp/s down?
-
Omg! Bet that wasn’t in the sales brochure

Hi and welcome, virtually impossible / uneconomical to remove all thermal bridges from an existing building but there are many things you can do to minimise the effects of what you are working with. And as it appears you are doing a major refit these can be done much easier while everything is stripped out.

When you look at the documents and legislation it doesn’t say they should make plots available, I was originally under the same impression but after being fobbed off a few times I dug deeper. There are plots available but most are way over priced due to having planning permission for 2,3 or even 4 houses on postage stamp size plots.

Don’t expect anything from the right to build registration, I’ve been on a couple of registers for around 4 years and chased then several times with nothing back except I am registered and occasionally how many planning applications they have approved to cover the number of previous registrations.

+1 to the above, timber used for the extensions does not need to be full height of rafter as the additional overhang and associated loads are minimal
-
Hi, yes they are the wrong way, made to open outwards. Drain holes in bottom of frame will be draining water inside
-
I’m thinking they are using the visqueen (other membranes are available) for air tightness and moist air is rising through the plasterboard and being trapped.

The baseball cap is a great idea -
The wall hasn’t moved in the last 20 or even 90 years so I wouldn’t worry or even think about it.

Dumpy level is not a theodolite, dumpy is a small automatic level and theodolite is for measuring vertical and horizontal angles/setting out etc. pic here is a dumpy level.

For a few years I rented an apartment in Leeds city centre, entire wall of en-suite was clear glass, very funny when “friends” stayed with me

Good morning and welcome, I tried answering earlier but couldn’t find the end of the post

You don’t need a laser level at 5-6m2 .. a spirit level on a tamping board is all you need
