  1. Hire the correct drill and bit. Will be dirt cheap
  2. Go onto Rightmove , put in sw1 postcode and steal as many ideas as you can from the hundreds of pages of listings.
  3. 2.4 between posts as arris tails come in 4.8 lengths. Pushing to 3m is lazy as they saving on a couple posts at the expense of quality.
  4. our bricky used a scaff plank with a nail on it for the top gable. it diudnt move. here is a crap sketch
  5. id listen to the builder and do block and beam on strip footings. they could accro up the legs easily while the conc set. No brainer if the steel is decorative only.
  6. use a scaff plank with a nail on it to prop the top of the gable. Single story shouldnt be an issue.
  7. Bet the brickies and roofers loved you.
  8. you will use a telehandler more. id rent the digger they are dirt cheap on a weekly basis.
  9. Good Interior design can make a mediocre home look amazing. There is a reason showhomes have ID money spent on them. I think self builders can get so invested (and worn out!) getting the building up with all the associated behind the scenes stuff that there isnt much budget or sweat left for the rest! Our current build in progress I've employed an interior designer at the planning stage this time, may not do all the suggestions but it really helps with furnishings/colours/light etc
  10. The % is irrelevant, it could be 0.00000001 and It would matter not a jot. It's about sovereignty, as a refugee maybe you don't understand it like a native.
  11. 5 ton + are cheaper, more for your money as they can load the 8 wheel muck away trucks. The 3 tonners cant reach.
  12. dont buy no brand chinese crap. false economy!
  13. good. Pakisatan type countries have abused this for years with the vile arranged marriages.
  14. thanks peter food for thought.
  15. done all that. even looked at putting a 300L tank for each shower. Still crap compared to a combi though and LOT greater expense for a worse result. It's just a compromise i cant live with. A bit like buying a ferrari and it wont start 1/50 times.
  16. would 2 provide limitless hot water for showers ?
  17. interesting thread. I'm having the same issue with ASHP planning as we are a 5 person household and any limit on hot water is a no go. I'm thinking of fitting a combi just for the showers (4 of them) to get around the lack of hot water. Obviously could use electric showers but they are just not as good as combi/mains and would be a backward step which I wont take. It's the heat pump achilles heal which I cant see any other way out off.
  18. if your not doing plate lap joints with a chainsaw your doing something wrong!
  19. lovely looking machine, did you restore her yourself ? It's on my bucket list to sort a fergie.
  20. yes as i will be using again, they were very helpfull. Quality gear not cheap Chinese crap.
  21. its better to leave 5' of trunk, it makes pushing them over and getting the roots out that much easier. If you wanted the stump out that is.
  22. to give you an example, our chippey has a battery 12" dewalt chop saw (2 x 54v) he says it has more power than the mains version.
  23. i believe there is a minimum bearing which the 1/3rd cut cant breach. If you havent ordered pre-made trusses then your structural engineer will have specifed the birdsmouth.
