  1. The discountsuit you get at Howdens are decided by your local branch, so if you want to negotiate then you should probably do it before you go down, you can also ensure they have the 55sqm in stock in the branch you want to buy from. If you don't then the Howdens that you are in simply ring your local branch and have to charge you whatever price they are told.
  2. 1/2/3 mm doesn't make a massive difference if you are going to run a bead of coloured silicone/ct1 all around at that level. Personally I always put 3mm gap (or whatever spacers im using) and miss the grout from that junction with the floor then silicone it over.
  3. Any bright ideas how I can insulate this loft? It's a single storey extension built in 2015, signed off by the Council building control! No loft insulation and I don't think there is any cavity wall insulation either. There's probably not enough room to crawl along to lay insulation. I don't want to have to take off the roof or the celing.
  4. Ebay item number 262868599536 any use to you? You could create your own by carving some pir and making a plywood box
  5. All 4 sides of t&g ply have tounges/grooves. You start with a flat edge against a wall then work away staggering joints
  6. Definitely cut a new tile. Keep the broken one and use it up for cuts elsewhere
  7. Difficult to make out the depth but either concrete or SLC if only say 5/6mm
  8. Magnet trade 8x4' standard plasterboard is currently £4.05+Vat per sheet.
  9. It would be far easier to chipboard a whole floor than cut around numerous studs etc. There is no reason why a person in the future can't cut through the chipboard and support the edges if say they needed to move a pipe etc
  10. You should accept there will be little slivers at the back and crack on. Are you also going to have a little sliver under the window? That's not ideal, but you'll learn from it ready for the next time...
  11. Tell the Mrs to ditch the idea of mosaics on the window reveals. It would look Barry White. You need to go with plan A of the tiling, unless you run a vertical band or mosaics to balance the one to the left of the window, but that would be even more work
  12. If only you had taken your time with this project instead of rushing you might have spotted this
  13. +1 to mosaics on the back only
  14. I would be looking at a man and a mini digger at £200 a day instead
  15. If you are anywhere near Birmingham there is a place called Eurocladdings with loads of ceramic and a few porcelain tiles at very good prices. (a few outlets, but I've only been to the one is sparkbrook). They deliver free locally or you can take away there and then, but obviously you need suitable transport tiles are generally 20kg/sqm+
  16. You don't need to prime the area again before tiling
  17. I think this is a situation where you really wanted to get the design of your dream kitchen, then get walls built around it!
  18. Fire regulations may be one issue, depending on the house. Ask you building inspector as he will know the layout etc
  19. Just a scrap of ply, or whatever you have lying around!
  20. The problem with white cement is that it doesn't have a use by date so you don't know how long it has been sat in the builders merchant's warehouse.
  21. 5x 100 screws are useful to have in your toolbox
  22. It is possible to go round the corner. You need to go on a guttering suppliers website, input variables e.g Sq m, pitch, etc and decide if you can get say with losing three downspouts
  23. Either your plastering wasn't as good as we all thought or you've got OTT as usual
  24. Ask a few tradesmen you know/who have worked on the house for recommendations or get another quote. It might pay you to get a one man band and pay him by the day
  25. Local glass company should be your first port of call, with some online prices in the back of your mind for comparison, but the delivery cost shouldn't be so steep
