Maybe a 2.7m celing height with dormers might be a way of getting more celing height

It sounds like you should be contacting the manufacturer and speaking to some of the reps. They will know if there are any houses being built and what issues there might be.

Solid Timber Parquet Flooring Acclimatization
bassanclan replied to Robbie's topic in Wood & Laminate Flooring
Is there going to be central heating/ufh at some point? The last thing you want is to lay it and then turn the heating on and it shrinks. -
You've got to look for short projection toilets and see if there's anything that will do the trick if you don't want a high level cistern or concealed cistern. RAK do a 600mm projection https://www.bellabathrooms.co.uk/rak-series-600-short-projection-toilet-600mm.html I'm sure there are others, but don't recall coming across anything shorter

Hello from a 1950’s concrete block renovation

If you are doing it yourself you might consider digging out a bit deeper to get 300mm EPS under the concrete slab -

I don't think you will end up saving any money, as you will put the money towards insulation instead! -
I can see much use in only being able to make 3 cuts between battery changes.

I generally cut logs at 6-7" as that's the depth of the wood burner so they don't have to be put in acrossways. It's a lot easier to split cleanly than a 12" log (as I usually split when "green")

When you get the engineering calcs chekhov the amount of deflection which they allow as "within tolerances" I up specced the beams and still feel that they could feel more solid (4.8m span)

Building regs and building survey recourse
bassanclan replied to H F's topic in Building Regulations
You've basically got no come back against building control as far as I can see. We bought a house with a large single storey extension. When purchasing it our solicitor made sure there was a building control completion certificate. When we moved in and found no cavity wall insulation nor roof insulation we were told that the council were not liable for failing to ensure it met building regulations, it was the builder who was liable, but as there was no contract between us and the builder there was nothing we could do about it! -
I had a similar problem, but decided that clips/secret fixings which were strong enough to keep the panel in place would probably mean that it would get damaged upon removal, so put a couple of battens and screws it in place and covered with screw caps

DIY - Insulated Plasterboard - Will BC Accept?
bassanclan replied to iSelfBuild's topic in Heat Insulation
If you ring this ebay seller they usually have some good seconds reasonably cheap https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F292423373977 -
Yes I think that was a bit of a long shot. Maybe your best bet would be the argument tge police use whwn sending out Notice of intended prosecution letters (speeding tickets), which allow them to assume something posted 1st class is delivered two working days later, unless it can be proved otherwise. Not sure if the reverse applies to Joe blogs or if one the police get this benefit of the doubt

New Kitchen/Living extension. Brick & block or brick and timber?
bassanclan replied to Triggaaar's topic in Brick & Block
If you are using foam bonding for insulated plasterboard (or making your own) you are supposed to fix it with additional mechanical fixings too. E.g frame fixings -
Not happy with tiling job - or am I being picky?

You can go regular bond e.g 1/3 etc, but random bond between 20 and 40% generally looks better -

If there are a couple of spare tiles get two and clamp threm face to face in the centre to see if they are straight. There may be a massive bow in the tiles, which is often the case with the really cheap planks, but he should be able to overcome this with a bit of care. Did you notice if he was using a tile levelling system, or just normal spacers and a spirit level? -

It is no good, I would consider that a bad DIY job let alone a so called professional. I can't see how it can rectified without lifting at least half of the tiles -
If you have a large open plan area tge fans definitely help.

On the face of it that sounds way too slow, more like a mornings work for one person. It's worth asking them what problems they encountered as they didn't seem to make much progress
-
Yes, depending on the end panel type you would have a very awkward junction between the plinth and end panel and floor tile otherwise
-
I think first is make a list of the absolute essential resistrictions. E.g. must have single oven with grill at eye level 5 burner hob etc Then a list of desirable Once you have some constraints and things that can't change you might find it easier
-
They dont HAVE to on their side, but I wouldn't stack them flat, a lot more chance of them breaking

The lead doesn't look great. There appears to be a hole at tge back of the first step, but it would be worth getting into the attic to have a look

Approach to Temporary Works for Steel Beam Installation
bassanclan replied to HaloThree's topic in RSJs, Lintels & Steelwork
It will be possible, but you should try and see if you could rework your layout to allow for a post at tge corner of living room/utility1/utility2. It would make the job a lot easier, the steels slimmer and tge cost of the job less.
