I'm sorry to hear your application was refused. The planning morons who tried to stop our build used similar words and phrases, planners have a limited vocabulary. We changed from a gabled roof to a half hip to try to placate them. Good luck and don't let the buggers grind you down.

Insulated foundation ( passive slab )
Gone West replied to Russell griffiths's topic in Building Materials
We have an Isoquick insulated slab which has 300mm Peripor under the 200mm thick concrete slab and a peripor upstand which is 200mm thick. -
Treatment plant without power. Biorock- clearfox etc
Gone West replied to albert's topic in Waste & Sewerage
I installed a WPL Diamond DMS2 electrically aerated system nearly eight years ago. There wasn't room on the site for a leachfield so I installed Kingspan Klargester reed bed system. I soon found out just how fast and tall (2.5m) the reeds grow. After two years I replaced the reeds with iris plants which do the same job but are much more manageable. The reeds take a lot of maintenance as they need thinning out every couple of years. -
Bath Surround / Boxing In, and concealed pipework

That looks spot on. You must get some brownie points for that. Just got to do it now! -
Bath Surround / Boxing In, and concealed pipework

IMHO it looks odd. I think it would look better if the shower were mounted on the mitred corner as in Nick's picture. Could just be that I like everything symmetrical though. -
Vacuum cleaner recommendations?
Gone West replied to Jeremy Harris's topic in Kitchen & Household Appliances
We bought a no filter Dyson just over two years ago and it has been faultless so far. We have a Vax for cleaning up in the new build which is okay.- 81 replies

Our triple glazed units have a ten year warranty.

It's not so funny, I've used extending plasterboard props to hold the skirting in place while the glue dried.

I used the Isoquick passive slab which could very easily be a diy job. http://www.isoquick.co.uk/

Recently I tried to speak with Trading Standards about a UK consumer issue and they referred me to CAB because they don't deal with domestic consumer problems any longer. Apparently they are only interested in commercial trading issues such as fake goods and dangerous toys.

@Dean Carpenter How thick is the cladding? I do not understand how the vertical battens are having the effect of altering the colour of the cladding. I clad our house in Western Red Cedar 'no.2 clear and better' grade and had the profile I wanted, which was 15mm thick, machined for me. The cost of the cladding was under £40/m2. Nowhere are the battens visible. We haven't treated the cedar and it's been up over four years and the colour variation is significant over the whole house. The rain affects the cladding by washing out the colour and it turns grey quickly in those areas but where it's protected it's still brown.

These two sites helped us understand our consumer rights and how to deal with European suppliers when problems develop. Good luck, I hope you resolve it to your satisfaction. http://www.ukecc.net/ https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/consumers/shopping/guarantees-returns/index_en.htm

Bugger, that's where I've gone wrong .

We have a Wren kitchen which I fitted. There was nothing wrong with the build quality of the units, everything I ordered turned up and it was easy to fit. The crappy part was their design. They designed in a 250mm base unit which was too small and would have meant having two large fillets in the corners. I had to buy an extra base unit that was 350mm wide so I now have a spare 250mm wide unit because they wouldn't exchange.

Testo 405i
Gone West replied to Gone West's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
Yup... -
I ordered a Testo 405i from CPC on Friday PM before Christmas Eve and it turned up today. That's what I call good service, I wasn't expecting it until the New Year. Had little play with it and it looks good. I decided to buy one rather than hire, as they're not very expensive. When I've finished the wet room door I'll have a go at balancing the ventilation. The Genvex seems to be doing a good job of keeping the house warm, and having the ventilation running has got rid of the paint fumes.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with the build. I would also go with gas if it was available.

We're just finishing and in February it will be eight years since we started the ground works.

Welcome to the forum and good luck with the build. Those were the criteria we used when we designed our house.

Genvex Optima Query
Gone West replied to Gone West's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
Thanks Jeremy. I've tried all the sensitivity settings, but none of them work. It's not a problem in the scheme of things I'll just press a button. -
Probably a question for @JSHarris unless others have a Genvex. Not important but on my Optima 312 there is a wake up function which turns the screen on from screensaver mode by moving your hand near it. It doesn't appear to work on mine so just wondered if others had it working.

Genvex purchase
Gone West replied to Gone West's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
As an update, the Genvex has been running for two days. We found it a plug and play device to get it running in a basic state. The Optima 312 controls everything and is straightforward to set up. We set the water temperature to 40C and turned off the 'immersion heater' and it took the EASHP just under eight hours to heat the 185l tank. When the water was up to temperature it started pumping out warm air. We're still working in the house so the room temperature is turned down. It is fractionally more noisy than the fridge/freezer when the EASHP is running and quiet when it's not running. Just following the instructions gets it running but it is over ventilating in our house and I may play with turning the extract motor down a bit to see the effect. I will set it up properly in the New Year. Our house has 127m2 internal area excluding lofts and porch and has large areas with vaulted ceilings.
