  1. A pair of bays (16ft) of Kwikstage with 9ft standards would be fine - would set you back the same as a tower but is infinitely more useable. If its for only intenal work after then getting 6ft standards instead can make life a bit easier.
  2. I would wait for the letter, and then reply with the case law reference that @JSHarris has quoted and sent to the council solicitor by recorded delivery. Follow it with the statement that “if the council continues to pursue this course of action, then a formal complaint will be issued” That should close it for good...
  3. Have they put that in writing ..?? Out of interest did you have a CIL exemption ..? That would show you are actually a self builder so they would be foolish to pursue that line anyway. Good luck with this one - sounds like you’re dealing with some real clowns ..!
  4. I noticed Virgin are shipping these with their new V6 TiVo and SuperHub3 set ups these days. You get a pair of powerline boxes to connect the TiVo to the internet, and it only defaults to wifi if the physical link is unavailable.
  5. Ok just wanted to check !!
  6. Doesn’t allow for adhesive ...
  7. Gira make better looking ones and also do a combined heat / smoke detector too but you will need to buy from Germany. They are EU approved so meet U.K. standards. http://www.eibmarkt.com/gb/products/GIRA-Multi-condition-fire-detector-233602-special-offer.html
  8. That’s about the volume of a 17t curtainsider at 300mm Ecclestons would want abojt £2200 for that inc Vat and you’re probably talking £250 or so delivery. http://ecclestons.com/xcart/sheet/eps70-polystyrene-sheet See if any of the local BMs will match it.
  9. Exfat is an old MS file system type - can you copy them to the Win7 laptop and then reformat the USB key and put them back ..?
  10. Tado will work with standard rad valves and a normal boiler setup. It has the ability to be extended to do other zone control etc but sounds like in your situation it would be fine. I fitted a Hive for someone and it was pretty tidy - straight onto the backplate and the only issue was I needed a cover plate for the other side of the box as it’s only a single gang receiver. The downside was trying to get WiFi / Hub sorted - it was easier to connect the hub to the router with a longer Ethernet cable then move it back to where it was going to live as with it close to the router to start with the stat was very iffy. Also had to play around with the firewall settings on the router (TalkTalk iirc) as it kept blocking the connection.
  11. Multiple layers is sometimes better than one as it stops bridging through the joints if you lay it staggered. And 100mm is usually a bit cheaper for some reason - What is the total floor area you need..? I found a place in Birmingham that worked out pretty cheap if I bought a Lorry load - which isn’t that much tbh..!
  12. Ok so look at JetFloor as that is EPS infill instead of blocks and is topped up to 250mm for insulation purposes. We considered it but BCo was happy with slab.
  13. I had that discussion with mine - and the stove fitter - as we only have a 4.5Kw stove but the only “feed” is the MVHR. Had a long chat as neither can decide what the “correct” stance is as we aren’t at passive house air tightness but the imbalance is negligible ... So we have no fresh air feed but will see what happens with MVHR balancing ..! Do we balance with the stove lit and then without .....??
  14. 130-150mm of Celotex/Kingspan with 100mm of concrete will be fine. UFH tied to rebar or pinned to the insulation ..??
  15. Would be fine assuming the car pit wall wasn’t supporting a small bridge or providing structural support for a building .... The trick is to cast wet on wet and and keep going so you’ve no dry bridges in the concrete - poker helps as does a retarder but not sure they are compatible with each other.
  16. The structural concrete comment is because to meet a strength requirement (ie RC35) the mix has to use gauged additives that are certified for use in that area and have the appropriate certification. Mixing your own will never meet that criteria hence the warning.
  17. Decent TJAR ones (local tool hire place has one) are about £800 new and seem to keep their value. Chinese knock offs can be had for £2-300 off eBay
  18. Wait til you pour concrete over them and then watch the pressure rise ..!!!!
  19. Subsoiling and moling may be a solution for you here. If its easy access for a machine, get a contractor in. For those that don't know what that lot means, have a read of this... Field Drainage
  20. Mono pitch will be much cheaper with a metal web or I-Joist system from a ridge board. The only issue you will have will be the internal ceiling will follow the slope but that is easily fixed.
  21. I found that for roofing the metal web ones were slightly better as they had a wider top and bottom flange but the JJi joists can be altered on site so would have been easier to work with. In the end we went 8x2 as tbh it was easier !!
  22. At £90 a pop that means my entire house would be £2000.... or £370 with Kinetiq... know what we are using ..!
  23. I wear an EvoLite that has these fitted into it. https://www.jsp.co.uk/link/en/head-protection/hard-hat-accessories/evospec-safety-eyewear-evo-range-clear/ant010-200-000/p/?parm=CAT1JSP&prdcod=ANT010-200-000 They also have ear defenders on at times, and I find it really comfy. It replaced a Stihl forestry helmet which was brilliant and I only had one gripe that the visor was too far out for my liking. The JSPs allow you to get much closer.
  24. How big is it ..?? You can get cheap self leveling compound (£7 for 25kg..) so 6 or 7 bags would do an ordinary garage floor at 3mm. Is that enough ..? Once that is down it’s a quick paint with ordinary floor paint and job done. Screwfix No Nonsense stuff works great
  25. Whats the QS actually doing for that ..??? A full bill of quants can be done for £2-300, are they doing the tendering and procurement management too ..??
