Loopcad trial expired and I haven't finished my UFH layout design
PeterW replied to JohnW's topic in Underfloor Heating
Install it on another device as it seems to recognise either IP or MAC addresses when you re-register. -
Best permeable surface is blocks, not cheap though as they need a proper sub base to support them. You can get permeable tarmac too, permeable concrete isn’t something you could consider here as it’s not usually vehicle bearing.

Controlling underfloor heating in passive house
PeterW replied to dogman's topic in Underfloor Heating
So use them the other way up... ST coil to put heat in at the bottom from ASHP, std coil to draw it off for preheat... -
SPONS Updates are a bit hit and miss to be honest - it’s more about using it to get a feel for the extras you may have missed, or whether a trade is taking the Mick ... I wouldn’t want to craft an estimate by hand from SPONS without some sort of framework as I would miss a lot ..! Even our estimator missed stuff such as the loft hatch and so on - all things you “forget” you need yet are never really marked on plans.

Yep can share my excel It is based on a proper estimate from an online QS that I then changed to excel from pdf, added my own formulas and day rates. Was accepted by the BS and has been useful for tracking too. Cost was £150 +Vat, add £40 for SPONS for Kindle and it will pay for its self 10 times over ...

Heat Loss Calculations Complete - What Next?
PeterW replied to Triassic's topic in Other Heating Systems
I would say a single manifold upstairs is fine although you may want to run the rooms slightly cooler so you’re talking about using zone thermostats anyway. Its pretty easy to run 2 zones with a common link to the pump, and also trigger a boiler or ASHP if your are not using a buffer. Both me and @Nickfromwales reckon those auto balancing manifold actuators will pay for themselves over and over - I would also go for a 10 port manifold and chuck the AAV on the top rail so is the highest point as we found that air collects in the top rails as the ones on the end aren’t high enough up. -
Heat Loss Calculations Complete - What Next?
PeterW replied to Triassic's topic in Other Heating Systems
Yep so take your ground floor area, and heated first floor area and divide the loss by the area in square metres. Gives you the w/m2 you need to put in. From that you can calculate pipe centres and heat input. LoopCAD is good for this too if you can translate UValues to R Values as it’s a US product. Dont forget heat from towel rails etc all goes into the mix -
Useful for calculation of degree data too http://www.degreedays.net/

.... decade .... I hate the things - noisy and lethal as they have no real clutch to talk of. I saw the starting handle for one buried in the radiator of a JCB once - it had spun it across a site. Anyone in the way of that would have been badly injured at best ..

What he means is don’t spray 2 pack unless you have a full set of air fed masks and full extraction as it has the ability to kill you .... Just for the avoidance of doubt and all that...

How big are they ..? I’ve had stuff powder coated and it’s not that expensive. And I agree with @Cpd that galvanising is as good - or better - and not that pricey as they do it by weight.

This is one of the real plus points for having blown EPS beads is that they filled everywhere up to the edges - we had to tape back in some places where the machine was blowing them at pressure through the tiniest gaps at the top of the reveal near the lintels. Now just waiting for the plasterer to finish and may book an air test just to see what the air change really is (not needed for BC as it’s a conversion technically) as I’m sure the beads also make a difference.

Liebherr American Fridge Freezers
PeterW replied to Ferdinand's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
AEG make JL own brand stuff now. There is an eye watering priced dual fridge/freezer/wine store that is identical to the AEG but £250 more expensive ... Liebherr make a lot of commercial refrigeration units and also OEM their compressor and evaporator units to a variety of other manufacturers so it’s pretty likely they are in a number of other units. -

My mate reckons the best accessory that comes with the Evolution is the warranty .... He reckons they get 3-5 months at most out of one before it munches it’s way though some part or other and it’s back to Screwfix for a replacement ...

WTF is a high temp isolator for the AAV..??!!! loft time I think ....

that is what this is set to .... Do wonder if the mains water is really 6 bar, and attaching it to the fill loop on the solar may make the AAVs “pop” a little ...

Studwork is way over if it’s timber, as is the plastering. Just paid £6k for 470sqm of board and skim walls and sloping ceilings with another 65sqm or flat ceilings on a 168sqm house so that price is well over. Get the sparky direct. Oh, and get those cavities refilled, 10 minute job to do it properly !
