Wall hung basin - do I need a frame?
PeterW replied to success1980's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
Check the basin manufacturers installation instructions. Most only have a pair of M12 bolts that either fit into wood or rawl plugs. -
Wall hung basin - do I need a frame?
PeterW replied to success1980's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
What’s the wall made of ..?? As long as you have some 4x2 in the walls then it will take a wall hung basin - are you planning a cabinet or semi pedestal below ..? -
Risk of dislodged wall blocks during slab pour?
PeterW replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Foundations
You could infill with 100mm EPS and insulate below slab and it will also make the whole structure a bit more rigid for you. Also may help with your cavity sizing if you are DIY on the brick and block. Slope the top of it or just use 600mm DPC to make a step cavity tray as belt and braces. EPS doesn’t absorb water and is cheap too -
Grout or sealant as it will be hidden behind the plate and the plate mounting panel.

Choosing first mains electricity supplier.
PeterW replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
The statute you require is this : ELECTRICITY ACT 1989 creates the following Statutory Instrument by way of Sections 29,30 & 60 ELECTRICITY SAFETY, QUALITY AND CONTINUITY REGULATIONS 2002 Section 25 refers to the interference of any supplier equipment by someone not authorised by the supplier Section 35 then goes on to list the offences namely : persons not complying with the requirements of regulation 25 Connections to installations or other networks; Therefore if you tamper with any supplier equipment including any cabling, meters or connectors then you are committing an offence under this act. The Utilites Act 2000 can also then bring further private prosecution for interference with utility infrastructure. -
Used siding here

Old bulk bags fit nicely over a brick or block pack. If you can find it, 2nd hand lorry siding is excellent as tarpaulin.

Better brassware, better seals, made somewhere other than China..... Do you definitely need 28mm ..??
-
Someone is making a massive profit then as that’s a mental number for a HA property that is most likely standard developer spec. If they are much over £1200 I would be surprised - unless the plot prices are significantly higher than average (unusual as HAs don’t care about location normally) then there is some price inflation going on.

Is that just a plug in Din rail relay ..? CPC..?
-
@ProDave are you just switching the rates with the relay..? Where is it from ...?
-
If you already have some cavity insulation then the chances of condensation with an additional layer internally are significantly diminished. Oddly, the basement will suffer less with heat loss so is less of an issue

Hi @JonnyDrown Please read the T&Cs - this is a non commercial forum and posts from commercial organisations are deleted Thanks Admin

Welcome ! Have you got any plans as this sounds interesting ..! Do you have a budget in mind and are you living in it while you modernise the building ..??
-
Not expensive - 10x10 is Standard size 10x10
-
I’d look at a 10x30mm rectangular profile and wedge that under the edge, leaving the gaps for the drainage. Not ideal but probably the best you can do.
-
Probably Fireline board or potentially wants two layers of ordinary board which may be cheaper on materials but will probably cost more when you add in labour to fit both layers
-
That’s £1.02p per installed Watt so is pretty good in terms of price assuming you are doing it yourself. The Gov Stats office publishes the cost of MCS installed systems and they are around £1.80/w so it would be on par if you got it installed for £2500 so you should have plenty of headroom !

Hi and welcome I think a quick picture or sketch may help here as it sounds like you have different floor levels unless I’ve misread your post ..?? Assuming this is a right angle extension wall off an existing wall and you are using some sort of stainless wall starter kit too..?? If you are building using a standard 100/100/100 construction of brick/cavity/block then 300mm DPC won’t work as you want to step it up on the inside one course. This can be fixed using 100mm on the inner course overlapping the 300mm, or you can just form the tray with 450mm. If you have any drawings it may be worth posting them up too.

GSHP frost stat requirement?
PeterW replied to Digmixfill's topic in Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHP)
I think most of the equipment providers anticipate the worst and therefore assume you haven’t put antifreeze or other additives in the system. However there is that strange quirk of physics that shows that hot water freezes faster than cold ... So is circulating hot water a good thing to stop freezing ..?? Despite this I have to say I have actually included this in an ASHP control system to circulate when the pump has not run for 2 hours and the the outside temperature is below 1c, purely as a precautionary measure ! -

Windows conundrum – living with triple glazing
PeterW replied to Simon R's topic in Windows & Glazing
Don't discount UPVC for performance and looks. You can get Rehau and others in a fair number of colours and they are very good - I considered anthracite recently but only dropped it as the fascia supplier and window supplier had slightly different colour samples. -
Choosing first mains electricity supplier.
PeterW replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Van needs to be run in armoured cable to the box - no exceptions. And moving a live box and the supplier cable that is only affected by the substation breaker is deadly. You have no chances with 6-700 amps, and yes whilst it’s possible I would never suggest an amateur does this - it has the potential to kill. @joe90 is a professional builder with decades of experience. This is not something to mess with and it’s also borderline illegal as you are interfering with the DNO supply side. Saving £500 or seeing your build through to the end ..?? I know what I would do.
