We applied in November 2019 and was finally connected October 2020; meter installed a few weeks later in November, delayed as we had to go through the obligatory guy turning up who "was not qualified to work on 3 Phase meters". We were at first fix stage by then so the supply went straight to the cabinet. We managed with a little petrol generator up till then, which we hardly needed mainly for the Hoover and ironically for the trades to charge their batteries !

VAT on Polish imports?
Blooda replied to KTB's topic in Self Build VAT, Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), S106 & Tax
He pays the VAT and "claims it back" through his normal procedures. He charges you the contract value. Which if he is VAT registered will include VAT, which in this case should be 0%. -

How deep is your hallway coat cupboard/wardrobe?
Blooda replied to Adsibob's topic in New House & Self Build Design
Assuming you are having a rail - given it it 2m wide can you turn them round. at 400 depth this would give you 800 length of rail but you should have enough head room to have 2 rails each side. -
VAT reclaim delays
Blooda replied to Oldsteel's topic in Self Build VAT, Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), S106 & Tax
Mine was submitted in August 22 - I rang up End of October later and they did confirm they had received it, and said they processing claims from March. So if they are processing claims from July they may have caught up a bit. -
We have a system from the above company, and use it for Toilets and Washing Machine. We have attenuation built in as we are discharging surface water from the roofs to a combined sewer and we had a limit of 2 l/s to achieve from the water board. So the driver to us was getting compact attenuation system. Water is too cheap so there is probably never a payback time.

Trial pits prior to groundworks, how much £££
Blooda replied to Post and beam's topic in Foundations
We paid £3000 - Which I thought was expensive, for Desk Study, 3x 5m core samples, 2 hand dug pits, gas monitoring, groundwater monitoring, Soil tests [organic and inorganic contaminants], Plasticity index, and water soluble sulphates. All details wrapped up in a very nice 62 page report. -

Half of our final inspection from BC was talking about how we both had the same lights from Costco, and how they'd been on offer a couple of weeks before.... I was more than happy to let the conversation go that way. 😁 @richo106 Just ask your BC what they want to see. But as other say don't under estimate the finishing costs, and the VAT you'll be paying on them.

Manrose do one, XF100AT Bathroom Fan Automatic Shutters Timer 100mm | Manrose About £40 - or cheaper. Manrose 100mm Automatic Shutter Extractor Fan with Timer | UKES (ukelectricalsupplies.com) We had this is in the last house, depending on how much Hair Spray and Antiperspirant You/Partner use it does need a regular clean, as indeed all bathroom fans do. Probably not fully fully airtight, but a lot better than nothing and easy to install.

We have a 7500l system, with attenuation. Supplying a tank in the loft and then to toilets. The overriding factor in installing was the fact we had to attenuate flow to a combined sewer, a requirement for the water board. During the design phase, we paid a SE to come up with an expensive system, that included attenuation crates, and a vortex valve, that really was overkill, and more suited for larger developments. We went to Rainwaterharvesting.co.uk , who "designed" their system to meet our attenuation requirements. Having lived with it now, for a few months, I agree with most things said on here, but for our build, it was the least expensive of the systems. And we had to get it in the back garden, before the foundations went in, During April / May 2020, whilst most of the country was sunning themselves in hot tubs on Furlough, and not speaking to customers.

We have a Texecom, hybrid, with 8x wired sensors and a wireless expander giving 8 wireless ricochet sensors, for things like shocks, door sensors which as @peterw said are tiny and come in grey, white or brown. We got our kit from Alert Electrical in Long Eaton who seemed to be the cheapest/nearest/had a real person to talk to [especially when I ordered slightly incompatible kit].

We have 4x Geberit concealed cisterns as per the video, and we had one for 10+ years in the last house. And you can service them through the hole. My choice was made based on the fact we have the same ones in the office I work in and they lasted around 4 years without showing signs of needing repair, this would equate to about 40 years of domestic use. Also noted on you photo it shows a full height tiled wall, which whilst looking better, takes away 6" of valuable space, A shelved wall is useful, especially in a small room.

@mccltd We have the same machine [but with no heater] Reference the summer bypass, when you switch the machine on and it go through the start up screens - the 8th [approx] setting should say "Summer Bypass on" this is not inuitive as it actually means the function to switch the bypass automatically is on, and not particulalry the bypass is on. If you go into the consumer set up [press down twice] you can set up the choices for the summer bypass. the 4 choices are:- Off Normal Evening Purge Night time Purge Again these are far from intuitive but there is a good discusion here [goes a bit off topic :)] . http://www.greenbuildingforum.co.uk/newforum/comments.php?DiscussionID=15082 But I keep mine at normal. There are no settings in the engineer screens unless you have to change the circuit board. The "indoor temperature" and "out door temperature" are for the automatic activation of the automatic bypass, and as far as I know will not affect the running of the heater.

Hob recirculating extractor
Blooda replied to Kelvin's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
+1 for the Elica we have a Recirculating Switch in white and love it. Went from gas hob in last house [and electric rings before that], and controllability is great. The extraction on the Elica works well, which you would expect as primarily they are an extraction company, and you can actually see it sucking in the steam [water vapour before anyone corrects ]. Also what we noticed when we were on holiday using a cheaper induction hob, was that there was a tendency to pulse more with the power. We don't notice this at all on the Elica. Ours extracts to the plinth underneath the hob, and is less obtrusive than the grills for the Integrated Fridge and Freezer. MVHR extracts about 2m away, and never need to use the boost. Did have to loose the top drawer under the hob due to accommodate the extraction unit, and still try to open the fixed draw every so often. -
We had the same dilemma looked at various solutions. In the end we got 20mm oak thresholds made, that just stud proud of the 19mm thick wood floor. Screwed down and pelleted. Then the carpet fitters just laid up to it as the would any other area. Small run of oak flavoured silicon between the threshold and timber floor is enough.
