I'm not sure how glossy it is. that's a photo taken off the monitor so the glossy reflections might be something to do with that. it was Series 6 Episode 5 (https://www.channel4.com/programmes/building-the-dream/on-demand/60958-009?intcmp=video_link:bip_ondemand:episodes) near the end when he's looking at the finished house. it's more of a satin finish by the looks of it. but I liked it as well. it might be that I liked the colour rather than the look of the door. it's being added to my list of items to investigate further. ? it's a long list.

nope. looking at internal doors. for the cost of these doors I'm not sure the DIY route is worth it.

yep, wise words. will get to the relevant vendors to 'feel' the doors before purchasing if possible. for us it's at least 6 months away anyway!

what is the ground makeup like? troublesome ground might cause an increase in costs.

Hi all, was watching a 'Building the Dream' and saw this internal door on one episode. was just wondering if anyone knew what the style was and where it could be gotten. I really like the colour and the panel look will reflect the black cladding we're having on the outside of the house.

our architects referred us to an approved waterproofing specialist who will install the type C waterproofing and guarantee it for 10 years and quite a reasonable cost as far as I'm concerned. for me that warranty is worth it's weight in gold. I could do it myself but I'd be cacking my pants every time it rained.

I am also interested in this and am at the stage of just paying UKPN/Openreach/Water utilities for the new connections. my road closure for UKPN is nearly £2.5k as it's a single track road. Openreach also charge for road closure and I'm waiting on costs from the water company. I am going to do my best to try and get them to all come during the same road closure period so I will hopefully only have to pay for it once! I guess I will then go back to the companies and ask for the refund. but I am fully expecting it to be a major ball ache. I guess it'll be just one of many trials and tribulations of our self-build.

I can give you one that I know of...Idealcombi (https://idealcombi.com) are one that we looked at and that some on here have used (use the search function to look for posts on them). the quote we had was very competitive but in the end we decided we wanted alu-clad timber.

looks like a lovely property! the only issue I can see is that you're only getting double glazing whole window U-values for triple glazed windows. that is most likely due to the poor thermal resistance of the aluminium frames and will be a cold bridge if there's no insulation within the frame, which I assume is the case due to the 1.4W/m2K whole window U-value. if you want aluminium frames inside and out then there are other companies that do them that offer insulated frames which will give much better U-values. might be worth shopping around and getting them quoted for supply only and ask your guys to fit them.

welcome. just a word of caution when planning timelines.....we had our planning application approved at the end of May and we've only just finished the building regulations drawings for submission! we have quite a complicated proposed build so that didn't help us but if you're redrawing the plans substantially and need to go through planning approval again and then need the BR drawings done I'm not sure you'll hit your Mar 2021 start date. sorry to sound like a doom-monger but when we started this process a year ago I thought we'd be breaking ground June/July this year. now it looks like it won't be until Feb 21 and the one thing that I've learnt so far is that everything takes a lot longer than you think. best of luck though and I hope you prove me wrong. it sounds an excellent project and I look forward to reading all about it. ?

Hi all, interested in hearing peoples opinions on this and thought a poll would be a good way to view the results (although I've not started a poll on here before so I hope it works!). I'm asking as I've been told by our window company that we can choose compriband, silicone or foam with no difference in price so I thought I'd throw it out the to hub to see what you'd choose and maybe you could add a why you'd choose it to fill out the details. all our windows will be taped internally with airtight tape as well so it's just the decision on the seal of the window to the timber frame. thanks, Tom.
