Power and Lighting boxes - Timber Frame
Onoff replied to NewToAllOfThis's topic in Electrics - Other
Neatly cut the boxes with a multitool so you don't lose too much of the pb facing paper. Paint the cut edges with PVA and allow to dry ideally. It really strengthens the hole and stops it breaking up. Then fit the box. Who's got time to do that though unless you're doing it yourself! ? -
Aico or at a push Aico. Saying that I have once fitted Kidde when I couldn't get Aico in a rush. Wired which were OK tbh if a bit bulky. You can with most get a little test station from where you can test your alarms or in the event of a trigger hush all those except the ones going off. Aico do really good installer/specifier pocket book guides for the sake of a 5 minute sign up.

Done. Mortar was a bit sloppy on the second cap so the bed is a bit thin (but we were rushing cos of the lightning! ? ) Drip bead feature seems to work! Waiting for the storm to pass as so we can wheel the scaffold up the road back to my neighbour.

Half a plan today then to get the cast cap stones on top of the gate pillars. They're very, very heavy and my lad is more keyboard warrior than lifty, shifty site animal! I'll likely borrow some kwikstage esque scaffold from a neighbour. Better than the time honoured, two dodgy step ladders! Main worry is the mix... The pillar mortar was 4:1 opc/builders sand and of "bricklaying" consistency. Figuring to bed the cap stones on it's got to be drier so as not to compress too much and squidge out the sides. Also we need to be dropping (gently) the cap stone straight down atop the mortar and limit the side to side jiggling, again to limit dislodging the mortar. How dry is too dry for the mortar?

Indeed. Looks like there's two different overhangs here? Does it leak all the way along?
-
Just a pity it's not all connected and working! ? SWMBO seems to have a mental block on me now digging up the adjacent room in the last photo.
-
Mine comes up through the slab and exits just outside the bathroom in what is now a slim services "cupboard":

See the lone, 16mm, pex-al-pex pipe with the taped over end, thats where my floor probe runs to: Peter gave it to me years ago...it's still not connected to anything but then neither is the UFH!

Screening Ideas to Block Chronic Curtain-Twitchers
Onoff replied to harry_angel's topic in Landscaping, Decking & Patios
When Sarah Wellgreen went missing from near here the Police came and specifically asked for any road facing CCTV footage. Huge operation that was. Crap weather for the searchers and dogs too. Very courteous though as they came and asked permission to search on everyone's land here. -

I'd hazard a guess they're trying for a glimpse of Kim Basinger not you! ? -
My mate put a cheap 230V engine hoist in his loft, above the hatch.

Consider how you stop the beam trolley moving under load if the winch is offset. There are spring brake type things or it can be as simple as someone holding / tying off a rope to one side. The greater the fleet angle etc and you really don't want a load suddenly sliding/swinging sideways! Rather than an I beam you might consider a Met-Track ("Helm") type track from say Metreel up in Nottingham, aka "slotted channel" system. (Great company btw). Generic picture but it's really adaptable. I'd always fit bolted end stops...not even sure if they still do the old sandwich/clamp types... These can be hidden with pb or other ceiling panels butting up to the slot either side. You could even make a feature of the slot and illuminate it. You need to consider access for future maintenance on the trolley and rail fixings.

As an rank amateur I'd use a levelling clip system next time without a doubt. @pocster used them recently on here for his walls and floor and it all came out lovely and straight and level.

Ah the IoW, that exotic destination from better times! ? Won't be going anywhere this year, especially as SWMBO hasn't had her jabs yet. FINALLY coming round to the idea mind. What arrangement have you done for your pivot? I was half thinking instead of the home made 10mm, high temsile pins above, to say weld plates on the end of the channel with holes in. Then weld round bar say 24mm dia to just the angle. 24mm round bar sits in holes in the channel's end plates. I'm using angles but going to reinforce them with 1" box behind. Cheers
-
All change. I ditched the shop bought pinet hinges and made some on the lathe out of a couple of 8.8 bolts: A bit of fettling of the angle and channel before I weld them on.
-
I'll be bracing with 1" box section. Cos I've got stacks of it. As I have f**k all at the moment in the way of a folder, anything will be better than beating sheet with a hammer! ?

Would this be 3/4" nominal bore, old Imperial pipe? Most of my downstairs is done in that...

For you to know this you must have spent a fair time looking back at them? Maybe they think the same! ? -
Bonkers idea or a great idea?
Onoff replied to canalsiderenovation's topic in Landscaping, Decking & Patios
Tbh it's poisonous to kids and animals... potentially lethal I think. I only posted as it's also known as bunnies heads! ? -
No longer banned from the park then?

I'm thinking larkspur would be befitting along that bank... -
There it is in black and white! “the proper way to install a board is ridge side down”
