I've bought some Kwikstage scaffolding, but having used it recently to build the basement, I've realised just how much I'm short. Once I have the scaffold hire cost in I might buy more!

My insulated concrete is complete and the timber frame company is doing a final measure up on Thursday. Next I need to get some prices for scaffolding, from what people are saying it’s not going to be cheap. One thing I’m unsure about is how long I’ll need the scaffold for? How long did you have your scaffolding for? Any other hints or tips regarding scaffolding?

I’ve been reading up about ASHPs and a number of people have mentioned the cost of glycol. Could someone enlighten me, what is the glycol for?

Itts amazing how fast it’s gone up. Regarding the scaffolding costs, I’m just about the start getting prices for scaffolding around our foundations, prior to the frame going up, It’s something I’m not looking forward to!

Are there any free tickets to Grand Design show at the NEC doing the rounds? -
Spotted this on Twitter. We and @OVOEnergy are working together in @innovateuk and @H2020Projects initiatives with their @VCharge technology and @SunampLtd heat batteries. Not sure what Vcharge is all sbout but no doubt someone will enlighten us.

+1 ours is a light coloured gloss, absolute pain to keep finger print and streak free.

The other thing to consider, is there anything saleable in the house, doors, light fittings, kitchen units, flag stones, Next is anything givawayable? The more you can get rid of at this stage the less you have to dispose of. Next talk to disposal companies, ask what is their preferred waste segregation method? everything in skips, or do they just use grab wagons, or tippers to be loaded on site, do bricks need to be separated from wood, what about windows and plastic etc. Consider general waste options for carpets, curtains, paper, glass, If its it’s an old house you might find that the bricks come off cleanly, could these have an resale value, it’s worth asking. Is there any architectural salvage of value, fireplaces, stone Work, leaded windows?

I assume you got rid of any nasties like asbestos? Are all the services, gas, electricity etc, disconnected? If so, the next stage is a soft strip of the internals, doors, skirting boards, plasterboard (keep this separate you'll have to dispose of this separately). Separate out any cabling, copper and lead as this has a scrap value. How you going to remove the roof tiles? is the place scaffolded?

I demolished my own house last year. It was a peice of cake. How it the house constructed, brick and tile roof? Single or two storey? Give us a bit more info and we can help you with a sensible plan of action and point out any safety issues.

The DNO said If it is less than 3.68kW, then complete the G83 form. In reality I’m going to installl 4kW of panels. I assume the inverter limits the export to the grid. ps. As this is a non FiT install is there anything else I need to be aware of?
-
I’m on a rural supply fed via overhead cables on poles. I’d assumed I’d have to get prior permission to install solar panels, so I contacted the DNO who sent me form G83/2. Having read the form it’s to be filled at the point the system is commissioned. Am I correct in assuming that anyone can connect solar panels to the distribution network without prior approval, the only requirement being you fill in and send the DNO the completed G83 form. Confused of Cumbria. !

How do we get tickets for UK Construction Week? -
I was wondering if other building related stuff, made in China and originally destined for the good ol US of A, might be “dumped” here at a cheaper price?
-
Applying your approach would suggest the house be factory made using ‘standard” components, with just enough insulation and windows of an optimum size. From what you’ve said, this is where modelling comes in. You could model various designs at a pre-production stage to identify the house that meets your predetermined passive house design criteria.

Why not get Baymix to deliver a dry mix and barrow that across and shoot it straight into the hole

If I’d have known you were mixing concrete I’d have stayed and given you a hand. Mind you there was no one on site when I arrived!

Parking outside our house: managing it sensitively.

I happened to be driving down the A6 earlier today and found this great lay-by. No litter bin in sight though! Not sure whose house it is but the builder wasn’t to be seen. Mind you the roof and windows are looking fantastic. -
I’ve never been a fan of TradePoint as their prices weren’t Trade Prices. I’m even less keen now following this recent email... WHATS CHANGING?From 1 October, instead of receiving trade prices on individual products you’ll be eligible to receive flat rate discounts when you spend and swipe your TradePoint membership card, as follows*:■ Spend £250 in a month and you’ll receive 5% discount off your products until the end of the following month■ Spend £1,000 in a month and you’ll receive 10% discount off your products until the end of the following monthThese changes will help make our low prices even lower for loyal members. EXAMPLE■ Spend £250 in October, 5% discount activated until 30 November; ■ Spend £1,000 in November, 10% discount activated until 31 December; ■ Spend less than £250 in December, discounts will be removed on 31 December or spend £250 in December and discount is reset at 5% for January or spend £1000 in December to retain 10% discount until 31 January.

I spotted this in the news The European Union will end restrictions on the sale of solar panels from China early next week, a move EU producers said would lead to a flood of dumped products. Maybe panels will get even cheaper?
-
It’s always good to rant! Let’s hope next week goes smoothly. There is a for sale section on here, someone might want flashing kits etc.

Smart meters, enough already.
Triassic replied to MikeSharp01's topic in General Alternative Energy Issues
If they don’t believe their own meter is reading correctly, maybe you should invite them to change it. I’d keep quiet about the immersion heater for the moment. I’d won’t to be sure the meters working correctly first. -
