  1. Really glad you’re able to move on at last, well done?
  2. Well with my floors ( using I joists) we only used noggins ( not in wales or USA,) on the bottom cord, the top being held by the glued flooring, also these noggins were spaced to support the edges of the plasterboard.
  3. Well I am one of the converted ones ?. I only used copper but found hep20 brilliant for my build, no joins, push fit ends, better flow due to continuous pipework. What’s not to like ? i used to to be a Luddite but I’m better now!
  4. Regards the manifold in my build, it’s next to the DHW tank and central to the two bathrooms and kitchen so any pipe runs are as short as possible. Just re read it and it talks about 334ft of pipe with a manifold, I recon mine is less than 50ft ?
  5. Yup, that’s why I installed a manifold and 10mm pipework for hot taps ( but not for showers and bath) in single plastic runs with very few 90’ bends.
  6. Well, I just bought some really nice porcelain tiles from B@Q, £20 per meter, Italian made and they look really good.
  7. I am not yet at this stage but have already thought that I would set the MVHR as I want it but make up the figures to keep the building inspector happy, there is no way he will challenge it anyway ? ( I have a copy of Jeremy’s spreadsheet).
  8. Nor me, got my ASHP off Ebay, my neighbour is plumbing it for me,( I did his drive with my JCB) done all the donkey work myself. My running costs should be minimal ?so payments would be small.
  9. Jeremy,s blog on this is very comprehensive.
  10. The very reason I chose charcoal coloured grout ?
  11. I have in the bathrooms!!! But with dog(s) in the future the floors must be hardwaring ( even if the grout is s##t coloured) .
  12. Thanks Lizzie, yes our grout is charcoal ( mud coloured) but I would hate it to get stained after all the hard work getting it to look good.
  13. Dear all, floor tiles are down and about to grout ( when the temperature rises enough that the water is not frozen?) can anyone recommend a good grout sealer, I would rather pay for a good product that does a good job. ta
  14. We have a feature brick fireplace and when the wall next to it was plastered it has left a plaster film on the brickwork edges where the plaster was washed off. I have tried brick acid ( 50/50) without much success, has anyone got a better idea for cleaning the bricks please.
  15. Just visited my local builders merchant and hey presto, a shorter version of the one I had that was too long so the problem is fixed. Thanks for your comments guys.?
  16. Thanks, might try that, I would prefer just one connector, “ half S”?
  17. I too have a toilet connecting problem so adding to this thread. The pipe in the floor is a bit far from the wall and a standard connector leaves the cistern out from the wall about 25mm, ( I could batten it out but a bit of a bodge in my opinion) if I use a swan neck connector it won’t quite reach the toilet. Does anyone know of a connector half way between the two? P.S. I hate flexible connectors.
  18. That seems a very good idea, it means your first floor when built will not get wet so less drying out and you are able to work “ indoors” in wet weather.
  19. One of the main reasons I moved from Bristol to a very rural location that has little or no crop spraying is because of pollution and noise.
  20. Yup, I have no pump in mine. I am yet to instal it but it’s on my ( very long) to do list?
  21. Hi James, sorry for the late reply. I used a 110mm drainage pipe under the floor within the celotex layer ( on a slight slope out of the house) and had a box fabricated from steel to bring it up and onto the back of the stove. On another note the stove supplier suggested that I bring the air intake pipe up to 600mm above ground level, a bit like a short soil stack with a cover to stop rain driving down into it, I also drilled a small hole in the 90, bend at the bottom to drain any condensation from within the pipe.
  22. No mate but close, sparky is here working hard and I am laying flooring. I recon another two months till we can move in.
  23. Well I have built a well insulated, airtight ( I hope) newbuild with a small wood burner that has a dedicated under slab air feed pipe. Yes it may get a bit warm for me but never too warm for SWMBO?
  24. Thanks Nick, UFH not yet commissioned so not a problem, only me, myself and I on the job ! I am sure I am not the only one pleased with these pearls of wisdom.
  25. Nick, just ordered this from Ebay, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bentley-Mop-Handle-and-Bucket-Set-Cotton-Mop-Head-Cleaning-Floor-Metal-Bucket/222562257806?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 thanks for the heads up
