Ah great guys thanks, watch my other thread on cheap Ebay PV panels as it may be a goer ?
-
I may have a problem fitting PV panels to my build as they would either need to be on the garage roof or ground array. The incoming meter is in the garage and next to the field but the fuse board is in the house and fed by a 3 core armoured cable (under my new tarmac drive) so I guess connecting a diverter to an immersion in the house won’t be possible?

I have asked those question @JSHarris and will post the reply, if any one is interested keep an eye on this thread. Norwich is 350 miles from me ?.

Just skimming through Ebay as I have a notion of doing like @ProDave with a ground array or garage roof. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250-watt-solar-panels-approx-300-unused-ready-for-collection-only-per-panel/264500513183?hash=item3d9575899f:i:264500513183 comments please.

Scaffold planks make good rustic decking and you can buy new “seconds”.

I just know SWMBO would love this: question is ....

If you can get one that goes low enough and small hysteresis (tho poached fish is a good way to cook it ?). -

Large round tank in the middle of the house with immersion connected to PV (with thermostat), and diverter to DHW tank, job done -
As Steamy Tea knows (because he has been to mine) I have a acre of bog garden in winter and an acre of cracked clay in summer ?
-
Likewise, UFH downstairs and just electric towel radiators in bathrooms (plus electric UFH In our en-suite). I didn’t run spurs to bedrooms as 13amp sockets are more than adequate for small heaters in a passive house IF required in very cold weather.

My wife and I disagree on this subject, we have pockets of land near us that are not farmed so not producing anything in the countryside that are perfect for a cottage or two, if built the villages may keep their shop, village hall, pub etc and the local council get more tax revenue. My wife (who works in social services) is concerned there are not enough services for the current population let alone more, but IMO you will never get more services till you get more population in an area.

I installed a Vortex myself, built for 6 but only 2 of us, been In use less than a year, will look next summer to see how it’s doing. With regard “looking after” your plant I guess that means being careful with what you put in it (bleach etc).

They obviously don’t need the money!!!! Makes you wonder what they are trying to hide?

Do I Even Need an ASHP and cylinder now we have Sunamp?
joe90 replied to Triassic's topic in Other Heating Systems
One member on here did all the UFH pipes etc and just installed a Willis heater with a view to getting an ASHP at a later date if it was required once the house settled down. I have no PV or sunamp but got a new ASHP on Ebay for £850. And I am 64?. -
Electrical sign off
joe90 replied to Mike_scotland's topic in Regulations, Training & Qualifications
And me in Devon ?. (But my electrician let me help do the donkey work to reduce his bill as he was very busy ?). -
Well I just guessed, working on what other people had for similar builds and the fact a 4kW one came up on Ebay and it works just fine .
-
Faulty AAV?
-
Like others I have an ASHP (4KW), and with our new well insulated and draught proof house heated by UFH our lecky load is far lower than the same system run on an immersion (temporary solution till the ASHP was installed). Yes I think many people have them set up wrongly/badly in draughty houses. i too can’t justify solar as I won’t live long enough to get my money back ?
-
@pocster it was Barney, I use flexible cable conduit which is very similar?
-
In my last house I built my own units and used separate fridge and freezer, stacked and made my own sliding door attachments, they worked very well for years. I did not fancy the weight of both doors on one set of hinges plus (apart from removing the handles) didn’t want to “mess” with the appliance.

VAT for dummies
joe90 replied to Davidkw's topic in Self Build VAT, Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), S106 & Tax
I made a mistake and paid my builder VAT on the labour to build my garage (I paid VAT on materials and claimed that back’) it was my VAT advisor that I paid to do my claim that spotted it and negotiated with my builders accountant for them to refund the VAT back to me, presumably they reclaimed it back from HMRC. -
Sorry @Ktelobb, as @JSHarris says above , we simply indicated an ASHP on the plan to show where it was but no specific application was made and it was not questioned. I too have the space fir a GSHP but the sums and the amount of work just did not add up (and I have my own JCB).
-
Yes but what heat load, what insulation, airtightness, glazing etc, this all dictates your heat load. My new build is brick built but almost to passive levels and it’s heated with a 4kW ASHP.

Reusing planning drawings without permission
joe90 replied to willbish's topic in Planning Permission
Your architect might have something to say about that! Using his drawings without permission! -
I prefer “KISS”. Less to go wrong and simpler/cheaper to repair.
