Flat Roof - Which finish to go with?
Russell griffiths replied to hmpmarketing's topic in Flat Roofs
I have also just put a fibre glass roof on my kitchen, very impressed with the robustness of it after it being on for a year easy enough to do yourself, although I have had a lot of fibre glass experience before. -
Flat Roof - Which finish to go with?
Russell griffiths replied to hmpmarketing's topic in Flat Roofs
I have just been on the catnic training course for the standing seam roofing sheets, I liked the product very much and it is nice and easy to work with. Just depends on the look you are after. -
I don’t think it should fill you with trepidation, as it shows you what can be achieved by networking and meeting the right people, as a couple of people said find a local Jcb driver, find a cheap muck away truck, drive around the local quarry and find out about cheap stone, if you plot is part of a bigger scheme talk to the other plot owners. My estimate looked on the dear side, but that was me dealing out some reality. If I was quoting, it would cost you large, but that’s because of the areas we work and the profit we have built in to our business model, we have no interest in being known as the local cheap blokes.

Strength of single skin decorative brick bonds.
Russell griffiths replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Brick & Block
Would it not be 5000 cuts as each cut makes two halves so 5000 bricks cut in half equals 10000 headers -

I haven’t tried to work it out but 10,000 headers sounds a lot. -

Have you a choice in bricks or are you controlled by planning, you could drop a right clanger if you pick something that is a bugger to cut do a few test cuts with a simple grinder and diamond disc to get a feel for how well they cut -
I must be living in a different universe to some on here, is the north south divide that great how do you get a Jcb for half a day? nobody we use will entertain even coming out for less than a day and that day starts at £350 we pay our 19 year old labour £100 per day where can you get a roller for half a day ? surely you still have to collect it and return it, or do you get it delivered, if delivered around our way the hire company would still want £20 each way. Muck away at £180 we used to pay £200 per truck back in 2006 when I had my company. As as I said so many variables if I could get that lot shifted and stoned for £600 I would be laughing they can come and do my site strip any day.

Roughly let’s see what I can come up with in under 2 minutes as my dinners nearly ready, Cost would obviously depend on the width excavator and operator 3 days @ £300 dumper £165 dumper driver @ £100x3= £300 muck away 3-4 loads @ £200 per load 4 trucks crushed concrete @ £200 per load 3 trucks type 1 stone @ £240 per load roller hire £125 this could have many many variations what about a membrane any form of edging what area of the country if it’s a bit rough he could get it done for £3000 assuming he has lots of land and can lose the spoil somewhere, if it’s a tidy job and no local contacts for crushed stone it could cost more there are probably two different costs here, what it will cost him as opposed to what it would cost you. As a value to you I think the gesture is worth between £5000-£7000 what is your opinion.

When you asked previously about how you could help on site, this is something you could do very easily hire the table saw and spend a couple of weekends cutting all the half’s, after you have done 20you will be an expert, you could even cut all the closers for them, this could well be a good bit of help and sweeten the deal with the brickies , it will still cost more than stretcher bond, but there’s not a lot you can do about that. -

So you would also need a brick saw and a bloke on it for a couple of days if you need nice neet cuts instead of just snapping them. Is this a stipulation of your planning @epsilonGreedy Or do you just fancy a bit of Flemish bond. -

How much more cost would you think having Flemish bond verses stretcher bond would add, -
If you have more lightweight rubbish get a 12yd skip better price ratio than more 8yd ones.

We have had to have a construction environment management plan (cemp) drawn up to obtain planning, so in our conditions it states we need an ecology clerk of works to oversee our work and make sure we comply with the cemp, anybody had to do this and what sort of money did it cost, our ecologist has suggested the following. First site visit £300 6 site visits at £200 each over 18 month period last site visit to check we were good little builders £300 all plus vat. I really feel like Im having the Micky taken out of me. All my ecology stuff so far has cost about £2000, and they found nothing, zilch, no bats,no newts, so what the bloody hell am I going to harm if there’s nothing there. Opinions please unhappy from Cirencester.

How about folding a cover up out of the same metal flashing you have over your slab, i had some folded to cover up our air con pipes, obviously insulation around pipe as needed.

To be honest @Fredd sounds like a right merchant banker. And shows why 75%of new house buyers are unhappy with the houses being supplied by developers.

Don’t buy a cheap barrow, if you buy a goodun you will still have it in a few years time so divide the cost by many years service and it will work out at pennies. We have swapped all work barrows over to solid tyres, not the old fashioned solid things your grandparents had but they are like a solid foam with rubber outer, no more punctures, about £55 wheelbarrow and wheel.

Is it possible to retrofit flush skirting?
Russell griffiths replied to oldcoop's topic in General Flooring
IMO it would be so much grief it wouldn’t be worth it. Also if you just score the plasterboard how are you going to separate it off of the insulation thinking outside the box could you now over board what you have done but with your shadow gap. -

So just where can I but a 40mm SW stop end?
Russell griffiths replied to ProDave's topic in Waste & Sewerage
put your straight joiner on and cut a plug that fits inside it nice and snug from an off cut of pipe and solvent weld it in. @JSHarris beat me to it.
