  1. I think your reinstatement cost is wrong, if it burns down a week from completion you think you can replace it for £150,000
  2. Be careful with cheap I brought about 25 cheapies and they where very thin and brittle, they split when nailed and if you tried to bend them a bit to alter the run into the gutter they split on the fold, the ones from the local merchants where so much thicker. I chucked them in the bin in the end.
  3. 10cm is not narrow, 2-3cm is narrow.
  4. Nothing stopping you at all, just don’t kill anybody, and if you do make sure nobody sees you.
  5. Looks a smashing project, cannot wait to see the house. I have been telling everyone it will be a year till we are in, for at least 2 years.
  6. I’m very jealous of your gabions, I keep looking at where I can use some.
  7. This is the difference between using a main contractor or booking trades yourself. I paid £600 for the biggest pump you will ever need, but if I booked it to pour your slab I would put 10-15% on top. I would also do the same for all materials.
  8. My last place was 360m it was BIG. Just check you need 400m.
  9. Send us a cake, oh please the wife has me on a chocolate ration, only two squares of fruit and nut per day.
  10. I would do a bit of re, thinking. Why hex a therm, it’s possible the dearest insulation you can buy. Why timber shuttering, if you use one of the insulated slabs with the upstand you don’t need shuttering. If you look look at what sort of price people have paid for their house slabs your one is very expensive. There was a post a week week ago regarding cost for a slab, I think from memory it was on average £145-175 a m. With ground works on top of that. That hexatherm is £60 a m ??? I would leave that to the big civil engineering companies.
  11. Not true, you need to offer the branches back, but he doesn’t need to accept them.
  12. As long as you check first that it isn’t covered by a TPO or conservation area, and that the work you do is not detrimental to the health of the tree.
  13. You might be in pain, but we miss your witty remarks and comebacks. Here’s a goodun for you. At the weekend somebody asked me how long it would be until we moved in, laughed so much I nearly fell over. ??
  14. Ear defenders, but why no glasses, c,mon don’t be a wally.
  15. Cover it with some upvc facia board, anthracite colour, will hide mess and keep water bounce from penetrating slab.
  16. 3m bays if using 3 arris rails and a support for the bottom arris rail to stop it dropping. Concrete posts with the cutouts in them for rails are best and rectangular arris rails. More industrial looking but will last longer.
  17. The holiday lets next door to me change the water and the filters after every let, so once a week. It is a full days job for two guys to clean and change 9 tubs, but he does charge a premium for them.
  18. You could, but how are you going to know what to say. You cannot just cut and paste somebody else’s, it will be relevant to your tree. Do you want to keep it or remove it ?? oxford area. BOWARD TREE SURGERY. I used to to write a fair few up so decided I could do our ecology method statement, council rejected it, even though I thought it was better than the one we eventually paid £1200 for. A single tree on one plot should cost you £3-400 for just a condition report.
  19. What sort of configuration are you going to fix them on with, as I think there will be a bit of drying out movement. Board on board, American barn style ?? Those mills are so much nicer than the bandsaw style. ??
  20. Do a full drawing including the ridge.
  21. You originally said that building more block work will be a lot of hassle, I think you will find messing about trying to reconfigure this to have the correct geometry even more hassle. By by the time you have messed around trying to work it out you could have run 4 courses of blocks around and be done with it.
  22. I believe it’s a stiffener, any thing in that profile will add strength and stiffness, i would say you must have a large span.
  23. Have you thought about sealing it.
