  1. For the main part just use standard 300mm concrete blocks. This will allow you to do 100/100/100 type setup. For the internal wall in the garage would stud work not by easier to do down the line. If you really want the wall to be block then just a course or 2 of standard 4inch block on their flat and the final course on it's edge. No need to use the 300mm blocks here.
  2. A bag of finish is just as good. Just sprinkle it along the line.
  3. Nice looking digger. Have you got a grease gun. Make sure you use plenty of it in all the joints. Plus if a track comes off you will need one.
  4. Then I would just overboard the fence that is there covering the gaps. The fence is on your land now so if it gets damaged then it's police and solicitors involved.
  5. So the fence is in your garden then???
  6. Is there room to get a fence post between the inside of your wall and the fence.
  7. So the existing wall is 305mm which you think is to narrow but you want to replace it with a wall that's 280mm wide?? It will be a lot of work to take that wall down and as you don't know what is behind it buried under the bank there is a good chance it might collapse. Then you could have a fence to replace as well. From the top of the wall to your neighbours fence what is the distance??
  8. Who owns the exsisting wall you or the neighbour?? What is his fence attached to, the wall or posts sunk in the ground?? If the wall has been there 30 years it's definitely wide enough. What you see at the top won't be the same at the bottom that's buried. The wall should step down so the weight of the clay it's holding back keeps it from tipping over. How wide is it at the top?? Pictures would really help.
  9. Ok let's start at the beginning. The existing retaining wall, why do you need to replace it. Is it failing or is it just you don't like the look of it??? What is the retaining wall holding back, a grass bank, a path, a road etc?? How do you know your in firm clay and what depth does it come in at?? Have you dug down to find the depth the existing founds are at, would be a good indicator of what depth you have to go to. You say there are no drains there at present so what happens the water that gathers behind the wall, are there weep holes in the wall. Do you plan on doing this DIY or will you be getting a builder in??
  10. How much you got paid was dictated by your heat demand from your as built sap. So if that guy had infact built a super duper well insulated house he would have got very little but if his house was cold leaky and damp he would have been well rewarded. Kind of a weird setup where you get penalised by doing your house well.
  11. What type are you going for??? It's more just for keeping the symmetry that I would put them all in. Really you could maybe loose the pair you have marked but it depends on how much rain you reckon will run of the roof. We all seem to be experiencing shorter heavier spells of rain so I would put them all in and then you don't have anything to worry about.
  12. For the price of a few lengths of downspout and a few connections it's hardly worth skimping on.
  13. What he means it's you are using 450mm dpc to tank the brickwork. As your build is tf you don't have to worry about keeping wall ties in proper coursing so you can put extra in at the level your dpc folds back in. You build the dpc in at the bottom then fold it up making sure the back of the bricks is clean and then build it in again. The black line will be your patio. It will fall away from the house anyway so with the dpc, the fall and a French drain you will be well covered.
  14. No comes in a sheet like ply so will need cut and a L made. Nail a batten across the roof line where the line is in the pic. It will be whatever depth it needs to be to get out so the piece of cement board screwed up to the black bit is plum. Then cut another piece of cement board to hide the underside of the batten. Or just use uPVC fascia as the L shape on it might be enough to cover it. If your putting a gutter on that side most of it will be covered anyway. Much cheaper and easier to do.
  15. I have 4 1000mm 3g uPVC from Munster. I don't think Munster do replacement type work though. They definitely don't here, only new build.
  16. Got the planters all finished up and 95% of the planting done. The boss is looking some gerberas in two of the areas. Have a mixture of flowers, coloured grass, herb section and a veg section to feed our pair of shiting machines( fat greedy rabbits). Even got a lime tree so with it and mint planted I only need an ice cube tree and that's me sorted for mojitos.
  17. A L strip of cement board from the underside of the black bit too the blocks. It will step out so will look like a feature. I used roof block for the same kind of look.
  18. Looked to be coming of far too easy so going with what @nod says and a poor mix might have been the cause. Dead cement or to much plastersizer is also a possibility but doubtful. Dehumidifiers will only dry it out to quick and make it crack not pop it of the wall. The walls did look bone dry for it to have only been done so maybe they didn't get soaked to help the suction.
  19. Made a tub kind of thing from of cuts of the decking for the planters. It's lined with polythene with nail holes for drainage and then another layer of the weed membrane. Against the stone work I put another layer of 300mm dpc that I had in the shed so nothing can soak through.
  20. So near 4 years after moving in the day of reckoning finally arrived, the boss uttered the dreaded words " right you that back garden needs sorted". After trawling the web Facebook and finally Pinterest we decided on a look. As a sidenote Def a woman invented that pinterest app no way would any man create something like that which is full of things to put ideas into a wife's head. First job was to dig out 10t of soil. Hired a digger started to remove the soil and was able to use it to fill the bad bits in my mum's garden next door. Waited all day for the stone delivery and it never came. Digger was collected the next day at 9am and stone arrived at 9:50am. 8t of crush and run wheeled in by afternoon. Next delivery was 6t of quarry dust and all the rest of the materials that I needed. Dust laid down to extend the patio out to form a large rectangle of approx 8m*8m. Paving bricks all in so next step was the base of the artificial grass. There is roughly 80mm of hardcore wacked in and then 60mm of quarry dust wacked and screeded to suit for the grass to sit on. Black weed membrane gets put under the hardcore and then on top of the dust. Never realised how heavy the roll of grass was. Took me the wife and the young fella to get it moved to where it could be rolled out. As a keen golfer I wanted a putting green so the garden has a mixture of putting green grass and 40mm grass. All rolled out and trimmed to suit the joins where glued together using the jointing kit and then weighted down with everything I could get from planks, blocks, trestles and a wife. left over night to let the glue set the next step was garden planters around the edge. I looked at using everything here from decking to iroko cladding to even blocks and plastering it up but in the end we went for decking boards. Can be easily painted and replaced if any damage is done in the next few years. Have the top section to put on tomorrow and then fill with flowers and herbs and then hide the shovel and Spade for another 4 years. Should have it all wrapped up for Thursday just in time for the rain.
  21. Buy a good quality roller.
  22. Have you asked baloo hire if they would be interested. You must have an account there already so the worst they can say is no. Or what about a car breakdown/ recovery firm. They will have a lorry with a ramp and that can easily take the weight.
  23. We bought a bath that was 1900mm long as i wanted to be able to stretch out. Our last bath was a corner bath so it was either top half got wet and legs went up the wall or top dry and bottom wet. I tested lots and lots of baths before I found one that I could lie down in. Near 4 years in I reckon I have used it 5 times. My girls use it more so it's usually full of glitter from bath bombs.
  24. Going by that link it seems so. Send of an email asking the question and take it from there.
  25. Get the forms filled in and sent away.
