space-saving & efficient alternatives: internal insulation Boards
nod replied to Raks's topic in Heat Insulation
They are a diy product I didn’t think they where still about Wild claims Very expensive While I haven’t come across the boards I have used the cream From memory it was a bout treble the price of other more proven products Dryzone etc For cold walls you can use a gypsum foam backed board (pink ) Clued with with Gyp acoustic sealant and fixed with BG knock ins you would loose 40 mil But it would sort out your problem I would guess you could pay someone to supply and fit For less than buying in the storm dry -
We built two detached garages one for us and one for next door We decide on a cavity More for if we decided to use it for an office or similar
-
I’ve a bio pure that I installed myself Probably new less than you about treatment plants when I started As Dave has already stated Moving parts are a real no no Our bio has a blower which I set up in our garage about ten mtrs from the plant and simply plunged it into an electrical socket It’s been running without any problems for 18 months One thing I would say is some manufacturers claim you can dig a hole and site the tank in pea gravel No chance I sat ours in two metres of concrete and fill it with water and left it filled A friend who had been fitting tanks for more than twenty years recons they can pop up like a cork

You are probably best with Electric matting in the bathrooms We have BB on the ground floor with 150m2 of UFH We put rads in each bedroom and a fancy tall stainless in each of the three bathrooms We are on our second winter and still haven’t used the first floor heating

Alternative accommodation - caravan
nod replied to canalsiderenovation's topic in Planning Permission
I think neighbours would be unlikely to object as it would be pretty obvious why you had moved into a caravan in your OWN garden If the council where to e informed on the very first day I can’t imagine any council working so quickly as to evict you within six months Most on here will have experienced how Slowwwww County Counsels work -
Normally your Architect will do you a drainage drawing to satisfy building control Showing drainage runs and treatment plant location No falls or any really detail I did a quick sketch and our Architect put it into a drawing If it’s more case of you needing something for your groundwork’s They rarely follow a drawing

Shop around But with building related wages so high I suspect that there is a good chunk for labour in there
-
I used Buildbase For a large order the rep blew everyone else out of the water Including Encon As with the slates they stored it at the branch and let me take it as I needed it

Preferred floor membrane/DPC overlap width.
nod replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Floor Structures
Your only problem with going wider is it does tend to get damaged if your not really careful -
Long time since I’ve seen sq edge
-
Exactly it’s crazy when buying a pallet of cement B&Q can undercut with there single bag purchase Perhaps a loss leader to get you in

My set up was pretty similar to yours I used 300 hi load dpc nice and easy to join Standard dpc goes floppy and is prone to damage -
Plus one there Never rely on the tiles to keep the water in
-
There’s such a small margin on standard pb Though I will buy sound block at £4 less than Wickes sell them at Same with moister On a full load it’s quite a saving Anything they don’t sell a lot of is expensive
-
I’m at 562 plus There isa price rise due
-
I use SIG A little cheaper than you We often have six packs metal and plaster twice weekly I don’t think there is much profit in the standard sheets
-
Not necessarily expensive we are surrounded by trees with a row Lylandi in between the house and the trees similar to yours We dug deeper strip and added clay board to cope with the ground heave Definitely not a deal breaker

internal plastering directly on EPS (ICF house)
nod replied to magnethead's topic in Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF)
I contract both taping and Skimming The cost is the the same on houses Largely due to to taping materials being more expensive You only really gain with taping when the walls are above 3.5 metres -

As with external you will need a tight base coat and a fibre mesh The plaster will shell off without -
While I don’t hold with spending large amounts on Architects fees We spent £2500 on plans being drawn working drawing and submission Which we thought was money well spent As pointed outside above planners will put your ap to the bottom of the pile if there is anything missed
