Trimless Plaster in Downlights/Spot Lights Spacing & Quality
nod replied to revelation's topic in Lighting
I’ve plastered to these a few times If there the same The bulb fitting is magnetic We put a timber pattress behind each fitting as staples wouldn’t hold The electricians attach a cord to the wires and tape it to the insisted as they are to narrow to get your hand in the fitting They look great when finished -
As an engineer I bet you have altered quite a few Architects drawings Ours immediately altered our roof design A good SE is a must
-
Ours designed our previous build and has a few developments locally with multimillion pound homes Which he’s happy for us to look round and pinch ideas off Though we got on well with him the first time round and he always took our calls Even after we had paid him Probably the main reason for using him again
-
Sounds quite steep We are paying just short of 5k All in with usual planners fees on top 285m2 Quite a few planning issues along the way
-
If you read the title Bricklaying Pretty self explanatory really Nothing to do with carpentry I was asked the question and my answer was that the other trades arnt effected by weather I’m mostly commercial builds The standard is much higher than general house bashing and private jobs I get plasterers renderers and tilers asking for work all the time The private lads just can’t keep up the pace and there work simply isn’t neat enough Our tilers are expected to finish 25 m2 of flooring each day and it has to be perfect Same with render We will complete a five bed house in a week and the difference between the private guys is that if there is any problem in the first five years We will sort it out and argue with the suppliers later We are way off topic My original point was that the big companies and there Bricklaying contractors that sub to them are paying Brickies £250 per day waiting time Thiis will effect everyone Smaller companies that I sometimes do work for Are taking there Brickies on cards in to keep them Even though they don’t always have work for them to do The mybuilder types that are floating around is what you are left with

Absolutely separate markets The guys that do the small jobs Extensions small refurbs Arnt used to working to a good standard and are definitely don’t work at the same pace DIY SOS is pretty accurate portrayal of the private jobs Bunch of guys having a good laugh On your time It’s always going to be different in very rural areas Where there isn’t much new work going on But this has a knock on effect
-
You will have the same with other trades with the difference that most of the others aren't as weather dependent
-
I’ve just bumped into my preferred bricklayer at the gym Hes about a dozen bricklayers working for him He was telling me the Major house builders are guaranteeing £250 per day per man Regardless of weather As long as they stay on site and work in and out of down pours Something self builders can’t compete with Nor do we want to
-
Most of the commercial require a tap on stop bead That goes on the CUT edge of the board before it butts against the Ally window frame They are about £3 for a 3 mtre length
-
It doesn’t need to be totally accurate and yes you will need an upstand when laying the screed
-
Just run it down to the bottom of the sole plate
-
Although I’m not using piled foundations I think I will go with virtual piping
-
Good point nothing to add the shafts if you already have a rig on site
-
I’ve a friend who has installed GSHPs for about ten years now We have a 3 acre field So plenty of room Surprisingly he still recommends vertical shafts for the piping Apart from the obvious He recons they outperform laying long runs of pipe
-
The Problem with PV is that it generates the most energy when you need it the least I think you would need a lot of expensive batteries Being totally independent and saving 30k on a connection would certainly blow Tge payback argument out of the water If such a thing was possibly
-
Plus one Usual drop by a third
-
I’ve a little bit of sympathy for him Should really have applied for pp
-
Yes your renderers will cover every inch of the frame and glass with plastic and tape Regardless of whether your builder charges you extra It’s in there quote
-
A couple of years ago I worked on a very large house overlooking lake Windermere He had 600x600 speakers set in the ceilings We simply plastered over them Super cool idea and worked a treat
-
I’ve been asked by friends to do four of these this year alone Our daughter has already asked and she’s in a three year old Red Rowe home
-
Exactly Some of the projective savings are ridiculous More work for the legal companies
-
On our first build The projected annual saving was £200 -300 From a financial point it didn’t make sense
-
Main reason is Its difficult to add extra insulation afterwords
-
Planners are keen for us to exactly match the nearest neighbors slate Which looks like a solar experiment Same on our previous Which quickly decide made our minds up to leave the PV off
