Top and bottom of most self-builds are decisions, decisions and can we afford it, Full stop!!!!
-
Yes. Our house is a rectangle so just transposed the site layout plan onto the site and made it wider as I said previously.
-
I actually dug out our site down to the level required. I went approx 1 metre wider all round to give me plenty of room and saved myself £3500 in the process.

Is this the chance to buy some new tools?

Instead of using a board lifter at our last project i got swmbo to help do the ceiling. One of the boards snapped over her head she still reminds me about it regularly. Guess what we are buying soon!! -
Avoid TP's at all costs. I gave the rep an earholing the other day but they are not interested in self-builders. All you can hear at the counter when I HAVE to go in is "HOW MUCH!!"

I have the Senco and it is a great piece of kit. Just keep checking the drive bit is ok to ensure good contact with the screws. -
With all the talk about radial circuits I was just trying remember from previous discussions that it was difficult to connect two 4mm cables in the back of a socket? If I use deep back boxes as suggested then is it the way forward. I have a lot of 4mm cable and would like to use this for the sockets but do it as a radial circuit instead of a ring. TIA

The scaffolder I use just puts it up at a price and when I am finished he takes it down, no hidden extras. The scaffold has been up quite some time on some jobs while I have completely stripped the dashing, replaced wooden lintels and re-pointed and no extra cost involved.

Right on the Lancs/Cumbria border. Guy who is arranging the connections used to work for Norweb I think and now works for himself arranging/ connecting utilities so knows a few tricks of the trade. I will still be digging the trench and laying the ducting. The water will be brought onto my land (50mm) and terminated in a stop cock so I can connect into it as I have a building plot for sale and can put in a larger pipe to feed my house as well. The electric will be taken from the main road to the two properties as and when I need them.
-
I have an email confirming that it is ok to put the supply internally by the guy who is arranging my utility connection.
-
No. It will come up in the plant room so the incoming main will be approx 2.5m from the external wall.
-
Sorry did not reply I missed it some how. Yes we have it confirmed that we can bring the supply up internally. Our design is very contemporary and we did not want to spoil the exterior with a meter cupboard.

I know most people would rather go down the traditional route and have a two coat plaster finish which is what I had at my last house (new build) but when I left it you could see tiny cracks that aligned with the PB joints so which ever route you choose can have problems. House was 10 years old when we left and the PB was dot & dabbed. All the more reason to give it a go.

I may be up for selling mine at the end of the build. I will have to ask SWMBO as it was a 25th wedding present. Sort of thing @Onoff would do!
