How to finish around door casing without architrave
Pete replied to Pete's topic in Doors & Door Frames
Yes, there are some good videos. The rest of the doors in the house are finished with shadow trims, I just wanted to hide these three doors if possible. Will think about whether to do these doors the same as the rest seen as it could look shoddy -
I have a long corridor that will have 3 separate doors in it. I want to paint them the same colour as the wall, no handles with a push to open catch so they sort of blend in with the wall. Problem I have is how to finish the p/b upto the door. I have included an image to hopefully explain what I am trying to do and one possible solution that I have come up with. You will see that I am hoping to use Soss hinges as they completely disappear when the door is closed giving me the look I am after. The main problem will be leaving enough of the door casing to be able to fix the hinges into hence the angle on the door casing and p/b. Anybody got any better ideas? TIA

We had this with our drive which had a yew tree adjacent to it and we had to confirm in our PP some of the points already mentioned above but when it came down to digging by hand I will leave it with you as to what we used to remove all the spoil!!

Thanks for advice but my mate is a techie and it is knackered. The night before my wife closed the laptop lid and one hinge broke so when I poured coffee on it I finished the job!! -

My lovely wife decided she was not happy with my Bosch hoover to clean the floor in outr new build so took the household hoover down instead. She did not realise that there was some concrete dust left and this has made the hoover overheat now. It is a Shark and I have cleaned all the filters and made sure there are no blockages but when I stripped the body down I noticed the armature/commutator is now covered in this dust and i think this is what is causing it to overheat. Would I be ok to try the WD40 contact cleaner to try and clean it out or would it be better with something else? I can get the motor out without disconnecting any wires so have good access all round. TIA

Quite a few people have mentioned that is does not heat the bathroom but I wonder if this is because of the MVHR system you have fitted as I have a friend who has elec UFH in their kitchen (old house, no MVHR) and that definitely heats the kitchen as you can physically feel the difference when you walk into the room

I shared our trench with the guy building next door. He had put a 50mm perforated yellow duct in for his Gas and then we had a delay getting the road permit (not our fault) and consequently it has been 6 months since he put the duct in. Gas was due to go in last week and they only managed to pull the pipe about a metre before it jammed due to the duct being silted up. The gas connection company said it should have been a 75mm duct and not a 50mm which was not specified on my next neighbours forms. He has now dug up the old duct and just put the gas pipe on sand and filled the trench in.

Does it conform to the latest regs?? -
This is such a big decision for most people and I am not sure which way to go. Over the last 18 months I have been certain on a Sunamp but with recent issues now I am not so sure. I like the simplicity of a willis heater but then the decision on hot water crops up so what do I do there. PV is an option but have not made our mind up regarding this as we do not want it to spoil the look of the house but on a DIY basis seems the right thing to do.

This change came about after two firefighter's became caught up in electrical cables that had dropped down from a suspended ceiling in a block of flats and lost their lives. The cables got trapped between their BA cylinder and the backplate and they could not get free. The Fire Service also brought in a new strap for B/Apparatus that now prevents cables getting into the narrow gap, when a cylinder is changed there is a strap that goes from the backplate to the cylinder so if a cable does drop on to this area it just slides off.

We have a lot of windows and this is a big problem for us. Went to Valencia for 5 days last week and when we came back we had 5 dead birds all round the house including two on the roof terrace. Just recently we had to clean up after a bird had been torn to shreds on the roof terrace so not what you want really. Suppose we have said bird friendly when the architect asked us what type of house we wanted!!

Bugger - big chip in glass induction hob
Pete replied to jack's topic in Kitchen & Household Appliances
Had this on an AEG hob last year and the replacement glass top was £300 and a new unit £480, luckily for me this damage done by a tenant but not a cheap option either way. I am having a Gaggenau hob in my new place and having it inset into the worktop so will see how this works out. I had the engineer out to have a look at the curved glass top that should have been flat, with him he brought a brand new replacement glass top just in case he needed one and I asked him how much would that cost and he said £288 which really surprised me as the hob itself is not cheap.
