Suspended Ceiling under a flat roof : how best?
Construction Channel replied to ToughButterCup's topic in Flat Roofs
What do you really want to achieve? More specifically if you don't drop the ceiling at least the diameter of your mvhr pipes you are going to have penetrations in it. Technically it would be that diameter +25mm so you don't need to channel the celotex. Just to throw it out there. Why not utilise the fact you have posi joists. Run everything in the joist space. (through ducts will make sealing the penetrations easier) Then insulate. Vcl. 25mm batten and screw up into the posis. 25mm is plenty of space for flat panel down lights and associated cables. Nice short screws. Done. Onto the next job ?- 2 replies

Slate roof advice please ...
Construction Channel replied to shedMusic's topic in Roofing, Tiling & Slating
Im not so sure about that one. I assume you mean rip out a slate and install a vent between each rafter? If so I'm still sceptical as if that was Intended they should already be there. As for ventilation I wouldn't worry that much. Between the gaps in the slates, the breathable membrane and also assuming the didn't tape/ seal the laps it should be fine. As for roofing ladders. Most people carry a softening bag (old sofa cushion) to bring the bottom of the ladder away from the eaves. I have also seen people use a bearer (bit of batten) to spread the weight but I prefer the cushion. -

Ideally they should have doubled the bottom batten to take up some of the gap. Now you have an issue of what to do on the verge detail. You could muck it in but Imo it will look out of place as it will only be on the bottom 2 slates. I wouldn't worry too much as it looks like it will keep the water out, but it could have been done better. -
I just don't trust them. You'll need a tape to mark whatever your cutting anyway. Afaic they should only be carried in briefcases and used by estate agents.

Get a decent lazer level with reciever. Depends on budget which make and model but Imo the reciever is essential. Laser measure..... Not so essential.

Maybe...... One day... For the time being that brick is at the bottom of a very long list -
It's the people that carry on looking that I worry about

Grab with the grabby bit (tip) cut with the cutty bit (below the tip) only the pliers and long nose have cutty bits. The difference between grabbing and crushing is where squeezing too hard comes in. Especially with the mole grips.

1 turns nuts or bolts of varying sizes. 2 grabs or squeezes things. Can cut cable or wire if needed 3 grabs or squeezes smaller things in tight spaces. 4 grabs things tight and locks on so you don't need to constantly squeeze 5 grabs and squeezes a bigger range of sizes. Usually used when you need to turn or hold pipe or conduit

From the look of the concrete path in front I would say its more sun than heat leakage. My question is what's going on with the bottom left window
-
It may have gone too far as its been pretty hot here today but I would get a scraper (batten on a stick if you have to) and try to knock off most of those stones sticking up. It will be much easier while it's still green. Also much cheaper to fill the holes they leave than bring the rest of it up to their level. Concreting in direct hot sun isn't fun. Your constantly chasing it. those that said. "they should have" /"I would have" /"why didn't they". Have clearly never had a concrete pour get away from them. When it happens there really isn't much you can do. Fwiw it looks fairly true to the shuttering just a bit rough on the surface. Think of it as a good key for the latex to stick to. ?

lawns - input please

A very good point. Personally artifical grass just reminds me of pain playing hockey -
Have you considered radiators? ?

Drill bits usually find them fairly fast. ? But more seriously the cheapest way is either take lots of photos with lots of measurements. Or make an accurate plan for the stairs and avoid that area all together.

http://www.timco.co.uk/fasteners-fixings/multi-fix/mf-range-screw if you're going into actual concrete I would suggest a 6.5mm hole edit: they dont need to be the timco ones, just search for concrete screws.

Why would you assume that an employed professional would work to anything else. I really wouldn't get yourself down about things like this. I know a local bricklayer that constantly moans about footings being slightly out. Then it comes to a job where he had put his own footings in and they were over 40mm out from one side to the other. Obviously I didn't make too many comments when his first course was a row of tile creasing ?
