MVHR Calculations
CC45 replied to john0wingnut's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
I've attached calcs for ours - done by BPC. I had the impression that as long as you are there overall with a bias towards more ventilation in bathrooms & kitchens then its OK. Kitchen is approx 0.5m3/hr with bathroom @ about 2m3/hr. Despite the ensuites being a fair bit smaller they still seem to get the same extract rate. I assume I've got it right... (all my notes are down the plot - not here). -

low interest rates = asset bubble. OK when you're on the ladder but now when you aren't. -

Look at any one of the stock market listed builders - you can work out their average profit margin - its about 50k/house i.e. around 20% -
I think you are correct - mine are longer than that. No way you can switch the orientation?

just buy some - it will save you lots of time and they are easy to fit!

shame I was about to offer to help..... mind need to finish ours off! well done.

Inframe kitchen options? Other than DIY kitchens.
CC45 replied to J_Green's topic in Kitchen Units & Worktops
We've had no issues with DIY kitchens. When you can, go to their showroom. They are pretty well built units. -
I'd say its possible to get below £1k/m2 - it just depends how long you want it to go on for. Quality vs cost vs time - you can only have 2 at any time. We are 6 years in but will come in under £1k/m2. This does not include any outside stuff. Look hard online for bankrupcy sales - some real bargains to be had but you will need to pick up and store. Could save 000's on shiny things. Good luck.

We paid £25/m2 for tiling. We supplied all the materials. He did a really good job.

I've spent hours painting our softwood ones white - I would gladly have paid an extra £1k for the oak, it would save hours. + less maintenance.

18 volt multi tool, do they have enough sustained oomph?
CC45 replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Tools & Equipment
There's a few of us round here that use Dewalt - no complaints. I suspect there's not much difference in any of them once you get to that price point. -

dewalt multitool and a 4ah battery does a good job for me. I would buy a sander if thats what you want to do rather than use the multitool. -
does anyone know of a technique to get airtight tape to stick to concrete blocks? I'm guessing they need painting with some sort of paint that the tape sticks to... Any info would be great. Cheers CC

same here. small jobs take longer than big ones. I get bored of doing them.

Thanks Peter - what are the fans set at for boost and then overnight?

Time - never recorded it. I did upstairs separately to downstairs. I fitted it around other jobs but slower than a gang coming in for sure. With a gang you would need to be 100% ready for them. One of the most satisfying jobs on the build for me. Lifter is essential. Compared to a mate who is also self building it was a lot cheaper than his contractor - I didn't work out my hourly rate - it would prob be pence. I was in charge of the quality and that was worth it for me. 15mm on ceilings because I wanted more sound proofing - its approx equal to 12.5mm sound board.
-
12.5mm on walls, 15mm on ceilings. 15mm is surprisingly a lot heavier than 12.5mm. One of those cheap lifters is a godsend. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Drywall-Plaster-lifter-Lifter-Construction/dp/B079P4L387/ref=asc_df_B079P4L387/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310971245184&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=8427784830050754218&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9074305&hvtargid=pla-698493927319&psc=1 Did all of ours using it on my own.

Hi all, looking for some advice. just commissioning the MVHR - a Vent Axia Sentinel Kinetic plus. Supply and extract target 172m3. With both the supply and extract set to 30%, the supply actually measured 161m3 and extract was 199m3. I was surprised at the difference. There are more supply valves and there's Q a bit more duct. I increased the fan speed on the supply up to 33% - it then measured a wee bit below 172m3. Sorted. I then went around and set the valves. All good. The extract I reduced a bit and then remeasured and then reduced again and then a bit more. At 24% I got down to 182m3 - I think at 22% it would be close to target. Is a 11% difference between supply & extract OK? It seems a lot to me. At 22% it is only 2% above the normal overnight / low ventilation rate. I've also got issues with the balance between valves - some are closed down all the way and still over supplying..... I didn't expect it to be such a challenge.... I just hope the anemometer is reading reasonably close to right ......... Any thoughts? Cheers CC
