  1. How many use the straw/lime render as the structural element. There was someone that made one and used to post up about it, not sure if it was on here, the predecessor of here, or the other place.
  2. Speaks the voice of wisdom and experience on all bedroom matters. Off to the woods now.
  3. Be interesting as these water softeners, should really be called conditioners, add polyphosphates to change the chemistry. I have often wondered how they react with a very hot electrical element. To me, it is just another thing that may cause 'scale'.
  4. Opened up for me. Was worried that it may be a Pandora's Box. But sounds more like something from her friend Ann Summers. Have you left an multitool in the cavity.
  5. Mildew and rot as well. Timber frame with mineral wool or cellulose insulation. Sensible windows and a roof optimised for PV yield. Life is hard enough without having to get a farmer to set his bailler tension up correctly while he is waiting for the right weather.
  6. Make sure that if you have a safe, your sister does not loose the number/key, just in case your mother looses the ability to communicate. Think I will be using and angle grinder a lot this weekend.
  7. Depending on what you already drive, and how many miles you do, getting an EV will probably be the biggest improvement. We change our partners and vehicles more often than we do our bank accounts, and I suspect that most people will change home battery technology about as often as changing bank accounts. It is much cheaper, for everyone, to get the big boys to install battery storage. Though like @DamonHD, the idea of playing with this technology appeals.
  8. I don't think smackheads really care about getting caught, they are just after easy to lift and sell stuff. And cars.
  9. No. Part of the Passivhaus standard, if you want to get a certificate, is that they specify all sorts of things, like washing machines, that meet their criteria. (Ecolabel) This is why many people do not bother with certification. There is also the airtightness, which may prove difficult to achieve with a structural straw bail build, it is hard enough to achieve with cast concrete.
  10. And CO2. It is almost certainly the deaerator for the boiler feed water. Got a coupe of threads going on about mould on plywood.
  11. Welcome. You are very brave. How are you going to comply with all the Passivhaus parts like the MVHR and whites goods they insist you have?
  12. Was thinking more of the altitude angles than the azimuth angles. But if it is near St. Agnes it won't make much difference. If you can see St. Agnes Head it is about to rain, if you can't see it, it is raining.
  13. Just had a better look at your plans. Roof not the best angle for PV.
  14. Welcome. Cornwall is a big country, which part you in. There are a few members building at the moment in SE Cornwall, and one or two up NE. Not many down in Penwith.
  15. Don't be greedy, this was a free installation, with the money coming out the public purse. If you want compensation, see a solicitor.
  16. Yes, but no single source for the most useful ones. I have suggested they put up permanent links to them on buildhub, but it seemed to hard for them to bother. Got told to do it myself. But they are not for me.
  17. I would be tempted to go that route. Yes, I can't see why you cannot have ore than 1 'heater'. Even a series of small, normal radiators, stacked sided by side, would work. What is the heat load of the house?
  18. How about getting him to sort out some web based calculators. The kind of things that we use. So. R-Value to U-Value Energy to heat materials Time to heat matetials Heating and Cooling Curves Relative Humidity to Absolute Humidity Solar Gain through Glass.
  19. Not as nasty as me, I have been telling everyone to avoid her restaurant.
  20. I asked a woman if she could move her car a few feet as she was across 3 parking bays. Came back an hour later, 3 doors on my car had been keyed. I don't really care. If you live down here you get used to car damage
  21. Put the radiators in a well insulated floor. Can call it underfloor heating.
  22. How sad that someone had written about it. I put it in the same bin as 'washing machine engineers'. It is just (expletive deleted)ing car cleaning, the kind of thing you get a Boy Scout to do for a bob.
  23. Hope you got it in writing. There is a reason we say 'Welshing on a deal' Taffy was a Welshman, Taffy was a thief; Taffy came to my house and stole a leg of beef; I went to Taffy's house and Taffy was in bed; I upped with the jerry pot and hit him on the head. Taffy was a Welshman, Taffy was a thief; Taffy came to my house and stole a piece of beef; I went to Taffy's house, Taffy wasn't in; I jumped upon his Sunday hat and poked it with a pin. Taffy was a Welshman, Taffy was a sham; Taffy came to my house and stole a piece of lamb; I went to Taffy's house, Taffy was away, I stuffed his socks with sawdust and filled his shoes with clay. Taffy was a Welshman, Taffy was a cheat, Taffy came to my house, and stole a piece of meat; I went to Taffy's house, Taffy was not there, I hung his coat and trousers to roast before a fire.
  24. No idea what that is. W have a deep mine shafts.
