  1. I can tell you how dad dealt with one on our listed small manor house. The first one who came turned out to be someone he had had a disagreement with in the past, and they never came back. For the next 30 years or so ?. When we needed one for advice before we sold up, they took ages even to find us, I think a pink house is wonderful. Very traditional in some areas where the landscape is dark ... The Lake District? Is it flamingo pink? The Grand Hotel in Prestatyn used to be Germoline Pink. Ferdinand
  2. I think the number has roughly trebled since 2010 (?). Agree it is relatively straightforward to fix in theory, but not for those who want to sleep rough. Politically TM is creating a spectacle that will damage her govt, and denying herself the means to fix it - which I find a little baffling. Even though she is as wooden as a tree-stump and as imaginative as a house brick, she should see that a mile away and have fixed it years ago.
  3. Moral: Do not build any more of your drive than is absolutely necessary until later ? I am sure no one here does that anyway.
  4. Would be interested in seeing some proposals on that. Mr Osborne crippled Buy to Let in his 2014 and 2015 budgets, and new money via BTL mortgages went down by 50-80% depending whether you measure from trend or the March 2016 spike, and has not recovered. And many of the measures such as business expenses being treated as taxable income have still to come in. Scotland has taken measures that increased rents and will now restrict supply of rental by making evictions much harder, so will be interesting to watch, and has just locked the poorest up in Council Estates permanently by ending council house sales. Quite a number of Council Landlord Licensing schemes in England require landlords to sign up to breach their tenants’ privacy rights, which is itself criminal iirc. Liverpool has been a fiasco. Dipstick Andy Burnham wants to spend 10s more millions of tenants money on a citywide licensing scheme in Manchester, when the last very similar one was canned a decade ago because it did not deliver the predicted benefits, as was demonstrated by independent research. Criminalising rentals to people with no right to work will leave those people in the illegal sector or on the street - how are the rough sleeping figures looking, ma’am? And Ireland has rolled back some similar measures taken 20 years ago because it wrecked the market. One of the issues is that perhaps £30bn a year of investment into housing has now been choked off, of which a large chunk was refurbishing houses that ftbs cannot touch. Who is going to cover the gap? Interesting times. F

    Draft plans

IMO the bedroom door is hinges on the wrong edge ... you lose an extra 1m of space on the top wall to walk through it.
  6. Family friend has A Fridgemaster. Also likes it.
  7. Have not used them, but have used secondhand. If your room is a different size or shape then logic says you need spares. But you will need spares anyway for the future. What you need is your plan and a list of units / runs of worktop etc. to make sure it has sufficient for you. Unless you buy a walled-garden supplier kitchen like Ikea who are a law unto themselves, units, applicanes and worktops can be matched .. but doors and end panels are perhaps the places you need a surplus. I had a secondhand Jessops Kitchen 5 years ago that was nearly the right size but they had an extra alcove. I still have some worktop, a couple of doors and a couple of drawers and some fixings ready for when something is broken or breaks. Ferdinand
  8. I share your puzzlement wrt to the chilled water dispenser. Mine is called a ‘carafe in the door’, which I can leave out in winter ?. That Haier looks vg value. The Logic seems to be only 5% off afaics so might be one where it ok to delay. F
  9. Fit a Wickes £35 water butt to your existing drainpipes? Or two?
  10. But there is a MATE. ?
  11. Not sure. Someone will have to look.
  12. No no no. Far too simple. He wants a motorised FLOOR that goes up and down. There was a Grand Designs Project with a swimming pool in the basement where the floor went down into the pool. It may be this one. https://www.interiordesignindex.co.uk/entry/111928/London-Swimming-Pool-Company/Moving-floor-swimming-pool-for-a-Kensington-basement/
  13. I like these people, who give an separate tension8ng screw action. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tatkraft-Adjustable-Shower-Suction-Megalock/dp/B06XZMWXT8/ref=sr_1_12?m=A3HH9BBR86JFPT&s=merchant-items&ie=UTF8&qid=1525001696&sr=1-12&keywords=Shower Though you never asked ? .
  14. I’m sure that Avatar should be Peppermint Patty telling people what to do to represent a Project Manager?? ?
  15. Could you not glue one on?
  16. I would say that is somewhat too definitive depending on the circs. There are arguments for not splitting before marketing eg avoid up front costs or tax strategy. But there are reasons the other way too eg to change the ownership to a Ltd company for risk management reasons, or if the garden plot is over the size that makes the Revenue think Developer. I think that threshold is not totally defined but is around 1-2 acres. Ferdinand
  17. Aldi Special Buts this week include a Sliding Mitre Saw for £99.99. And a stand for £39.99. This one is I think the one: https://www.aldi.co.uk/workzone-8"-sliding-mitre-saw/p/082732199881100?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIz7-fp8rd2gIVqrvtCh2pkwYZEAQYASABEgI2RfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=COHmy6nK3doCFckD0wodff8KsA No idea about the quality.
  18. Some years ago they switched their marketing strategy to "33% off" between one catalogue and the next. Simultaneously all the prices in the catalogue went up by a quarter...
  19. Heh. Touché. ? Have deleted my comments wrt English Law. Apologies to the Op.
  20. I was wondering whether there was any legal basis for only paying for that part of the new capacity that you actually use? F
  21. At the steak, shurely?
  22. If you wait until iirc October Howdens will be having their sale. That usually includes eg granite worktops. My only Howdens warning is to know what you want including spares, as the range changes with some rapidity. Ferdinand
  23. The light fitting reminds me of Dale Chihuly glass sculptures - here at the V&A. Did you commission that?
  24. It will also teach you to believe Estate Agents ?.
  25. "especially since they have detailed planning on them" (with link to help find it ?)
