  1. Just to revisit this ive been asking around and consensus is that my idea sucks unless it’s high enough to walk underneath otherwise it’ll be full of shite. Fair do’s. blockwork with some big galvanised grates set in it so any water could flow has been mooted.
  2. It’s normal to see large fixings, those do look a bit pointy though
  3. Is there anybody recommended to design everything as a full package. air source, thermal store etc?
  4. I’m not keen on that, or burying the push fittings in plaster.
  5. I waited 5 months for the write up of my pre app to see how the existing planning could be modified. You can tell the planning officer never bothered looking at it properly because after I lodged a complaint and a freedom of information request to see how many emails and calls they had logged which had been ignored they called back in a flap because the original planning was undischarged on material samples. It cost me a lot of money I was due to exchange on the plot that week, and I’ve now had to look elsewhere. yes they’re busy, but no they’re not fit for purpose.
  6. Screwpiles with a steel ringbeam looks handy!
  7. What trade are they in? There’s not many that haven’t worked right through
  8. There’s mortar life than laying bricks. the furlough scheme has been an absolute scam, lads on site having 1 week off then claiming massive payments.
  9. I’ve had single ply with standing seams on a job, anywhere near up close and it looks awful.
  10. It’s the iPhone autocorrect ?
  11. NOW WE’RE TALKING!!!!! Lovely house. very nice- you did have lots of input into my recent disastererous venture Bloody love gaboon baskets.
  12. I do like the look of piles and using a Rsj frame to build off! I need to find a picture.
  13. It’s flood zone 3 but I don’t anticipate any really, but building 1m above doesn’t seem too bad. I’ve had a nightmare with a plot that I was all set to build on which I’ll post about at some point ?
  14. thanks- my brain is saying block and beam raised but it would be nice to give a ‘floating’ effect (excuse the pun!)
  15. 1m off floor and 300mm resilient, I’m thinking build it on sleeper brickwork or similar? Whether that’s block and beam Or something else? It’s not something I’ve ever considered tbh but I’ve had a big let down on a plot and the best available has planning but flood zone 3! edit: it’s a replacement dwelling so a bit of leeway.
  16. Has anybody got any experience with building timber frame in flood zone 3? I will need to be 1m off the ground thanks
  17. Nope. They’ll tell you say “152x152x26 UB” or whatever and it’s position. Not the length or install height.
  18. The engineer will tell you what size steels but not the lengths or heights
  19. same. in the outer insulated plinth?
  20. *apparently* I can use a section 96 notice or something?
  21. A delay like that will bankrupt me. Planning is collapsed around here, I paid £400 for a pre app in January which I did over zoom and still haven’t had the results back. Now I’m going to build my original scheme and apply for an extension on one end of it because I know planning will Never approve what I really want before my bridging runs out.
  22. I built this for a mate yesterday, need to cut a roof on it but I’m too old to be doing it without some Scaffold. Still undecided on stick building my own place, easy enough but if the panels Are cheap it’s so much easier and quicker with a forklift on site
  23. Expanding foam on the stud, couple of concrete screws to hold it then chemfix it back with studs/threaded Rod.
