  1. I was hoping for an alternative to a ASHP based on the headline!
  2. I know someone that installed it on their new build and the cat won't use it at all. Just waits by the door!
  3. that’s a lot of energy in a small space. How much insulation do you have on walls, floor & roof?
  4. Peter Millard has some lovely videos about selecting and using track saws -
  5. Apologies, wrong person LOL
  6. Polysteel are just down the road, you could even visit them - Unit 10 Norton Enterprise Park, Whittle Road, Salisbury, SP2 7YS
  7. Agreed, you don't want to be charged business rates for a row of EV chargers.
  8. It sound like you want to build a to Passive House Standards, check that your architect has experience in building to PH Standard. Far too many architects are more concerned on how it looks than energy and comfort IMHO. When not in use this would make a great community EV charging station and would generate you some welcome funds.
  9. Totally agree, have a look at these products - https://www.groundtrax.com/. It's probably worth giving them a call to discuss your problem.
  10. I'm trying it for a friend, if you want a referral code to earn 10 point (whatever that is) mine is WAL888834
  11. You could, but you would have to use supports and shuttering that they use on civil construction. There is a table on BH somewhere that gives a cost per sqm of ICF systems external walls including concrete. I think that Isotex is about £70 per sqm, so £45K is a very big bungalow.
  12. If you're showering in the bath, it's best to leave the water in the bath to cool down / heat the house. Waste water heat recovery is a lot of extra plumbing. Using an aerating shower is better and a lot cheaper.
  13. IMHO and experience architects no very little about the cost of materials or using them. Costing a build based on it's area is crazy and should be taken with a large bucket of salt. It's a very complex calculation without actually building it, and includes location, building system, ground conditions, fabric area, volume, materials, finish, air tightness, insulation levels, etc.
  14. What are you planning to use the garage for? As a garage, storage, workshop or turn part of into an annexe later?
  15. You should have an insulated garage door - https://www.peakgaragedoors.co.uk/passive-house-garage-doors/ (It was mentioned to me, so I can't comment either way)
  16. You have experience with UFH so I would consider that. Solar thermal might be good for this?
  17. To be honest with a garage you don't need a screed.
  18. Details for foamed glass foundations attached. GEOCELL-Foundation-Details.pdf
  19. Why do you need an insulation level of 0.07?
  20. Why can't you use AutoCAD? Personally I would use Adobe Illustrator or Affinity Designer, both of which are vector based.
  21. I don't think you can have it very thick, so the insulation benefit would be small IMHO.
  22. Being recycled it could be cheaper. https://www.mikewye.co.uk/product/foam-glass-insulation-aggregate/. For a house the insulated slab the sheets have a slightly better spec. If you want a physical look I can drop the samples of Saturday morning?
  23. Yes it is and I think it's great stuff.
  24. Surely on a Mech Eng course you have access to CAD and graphic design software?
