  1. What his reason for tying the strip to the basement slab ?? If we know what he's trying to achieve /mitigate might be able to suggest a easier to axhieve/ construct solution
  2. Definitely need to take the corners of at least the top sheet of A393 but more than likely the top 2 your detail even mentions that fact.just lay them as is and you'll know exactly what you need to cut then and it's easy to cut in place Yeah the MARS bars are all I'd use for bottom layer they are the right tool for the job, you can break them up by hand as required too.
  3. Id check all 4 exterior walls, no point in guessing now and it'll not take long to fig a few extra holes but it could be costly to find out something is no good mid way through an extension and it'll be the SE to inspect as he's responsible for design.
  4. What size is the mesh? At the corners you might need to Nick the corners of the top 2 of the 4 overlapping sheets. For the spacers on the bottom I'd use mars bars far easier and better the others will just overturn
  5. Tony is correct with the product but you won't want 200mm ones as with 50mm cover top and bottom a 200mm spacer and the depth of 2 layers of mesh and the overlaps you'd be out through the top of the concrete. 150mm spacers would be loads for that. And even then use flying end mesh to avoid issues at corners with 4 way overlaps.
  6. Sounds like someone didn't do a very good job there, weeds coming through the tarmac should not be an issue so early on. What was the spec and depth of the tarmac and what was the build up of the driveway? Do not take some cash of and let them off the hook regardless.
  7. Thats good value at that sort of money it's worth a look.thanks for the heads up
  8. Hi, a few pictures of what your not happy with might help some on here give you better feedback and advice.
  9. Fair point , we have a team on some site at least twice a month and often weekly so they come with big saws and core rigs because there is ALWAYS opens missing.
  10. We use alot of hollow core slabs for apartment blocks we are building as it seems common place in Ireland instead of an in situ slab once above transfer slab. I wouldn't and won't worry too much about punching or maybe scoring is a better word holes as small as 150mm through them. The installers hack chunks out of them with great abandon when they have forgotten opes and not a bother sign8ng off their warranty in them. So unless you are planning multiple on a single slabs of worry not.
  11. So we are running head long into starting our build and I am at the point of making or having made most of the big decisions for the aesthetics of the outside of the house. It will be largely monochrome and my wife who loves the design and wants monochrome is a little bit worried it would be too much Black. I'm not worried but I'd like to get something that shows it in better detail than the arxhitects drawings to keep herself contented that it as she sees it in her head. The Architects drawings are not 100% right with regards colours texture etc so where can I get some done? How much are they? Are they worth it for what I want them for ?
  12. Another JFDI, never ever be noticed
  13. All the legal obligations / requirement regards site security and the requirement for hoarding is covered under CDM If I remember correctly worth a review before your response / action to council , not to add to it but I also thought that site hoarding will require a temporary works design and design certificate now too.
  14. I think most of the issue with commercial floors is the people specifying the finishes/ tolerences not understanding what they need I've laid alot of "superflat" floors for 14m high racking and nearly always had to have an argument with the client/ engineer over what is spec'd against what they actually want. Got to pick your Sr level or FM level correctly but problem is most want FM1 or SR1 finished but don't want to pay the premium for it. Same but reverse for domestic floors you have very little comeback unless you spec a proper finish just expect to pay accordingly
  15. Need to let it cure fully now I'm afraid before you look at it .
  16. Definitely need to strip the topsoil first in any case, then if it's only a van any stone circa 6inches deep should do ya, but if it was me and you want something that will take traffic better I'd use a larger stone first like 6f2 and then a topping of type 1. Terram or such like under the stone always helps keep it right too.
  17. Can you not relay that section of pipe to miss the steel i think this is the only correct solution that wont come and bite you in the ass in the future and re lining that is not really a viable option.
  18. Ah right I did the Stillorgan one there recently 160,000m3 . What a pain in the ass project that was ?
  19. Stillorgan Resevoir ???
  20. That is the cases with most companies, and cholorination is a pain in the arse which takes 3 days of site visits for the cholorination team and then a set samples sent of to a certified lab which takes 3 or 4 days to come back before you can connect, some will also ask for pressure testing !!!!! 32mm is plenty for a single house 100m of the main.
  21. My experience is the good one won't want day rate, plus it pushes the ownace on them to get outta there as quick as possible, also there taking an element of the risk and you know from the outset what your cost is. I know alot here will disagree with me but I'm talking from a professional view and am hiring small and large subbies every week for along time now and that is my firmly held beliefs for the majority of work obviously if there is something very unusual or unpredictable it can be different but for a plumber plumbing a house I can't see what the benefit to the plumber here is except getting paid to take a large chunk of his day eating sandwiches ...
  22. Personally there's no way I'd pay for some one to spend his time reading the Sun newspaper and eating sandwiches. If I have men on day work and I try to avoid it like the plague they normally take 2 half hour breaks a day tops and I deduct a half hour from their hours for the day. I would pay the half hour break and knock off the hour lunch of his time on site.
