  1. @SteamyTeaif I could get away with a 4 day week and make the same coin I'd love it, more time to spend with the wife and kids could only be good BUT I can never see it in our industry maybe in an office culture possibly. It would drive costs and housing prices sky high also.
  2. Yeah not much craic these days staring at a hotel room from 5 o clock in the evening........
  3. Pm en route
  4. Since it came in it's be common place to sign waivers .... I've worked all across Europe for big and small and unfortunately never had the luxury and as most men on hourly rates if you implemented it you would be left with the scraps on site
  5. I also think long hours are the norm for Groundworks / Civils as opposed to other Housing trades
  6. I'd agree with that, any of the lads I have living away wouldn't stay for anything less than 12 hours a shift.. Except on a Friday ...
  7. Well I'm Irish and digging holes or shouting at men digging holes for 25 years and I have never worked less than a 10 hour shift .. And I've never seen or tolerated any drop off in productivity. Currently have 300 men out on sites and come 5 o clock everyman is still hard at it or at least better be good at pretending to be ....
  8. Very normal, usually 8am to 6pm or 7am to 5pm.
  9. Thanks for that Declan, I 'll look them up ?
  10. Hey Bitpipe , thanks for that. That looks exactly what I am looking for. I'm based in Fermanagh now. I use Sika products alot with work so now i have a product name I'll chat my rep and see who he recommends and what sort of discount I'm entitled to ?
  11. I agree with Conor above, that looks to be almost unconstructable without some support and I'd imagine it will add a 6 figure sum to your building cost if it is. If you can get a few columns under it it would be a while different story and a completely different build. Best of luck with it though.
  12. Bitpipe do the still use under mat when lad on top of a traditional screed ? Any chance you've got any pics? I was thinking about polished conc for around half the ground floor but this might be a better option
  13. Price per m2 is a rough guide at best and it can be heavily weighted by finish ie 2 exact same houses of 100m2 and someone puts in a 10k kitchen and someone puts in a 50k kitchen there you have a £400 per m2 difference alone. It's also relative to how much work you're going to do yourself. I am building a 320m2 house in northern Ireland and expect to be in it minus landscaping at circa £650per m2 after my future brother in law completing a similar sized house for circa £550 per m2 last year.
  14. Another point my missus made ?
  15. Anyone here ever price copper glittering and downpipes? Really consider8ng these but Missus thinks they might be too bling.....
  16. Hi Sean, looks nice. What type of cladding is on the outside ? My only comment and it's purely from a constructability end is maybe look at the bathroom locations with regards what you plan to do with the soil stacks. Best of luck with your build ?
  17. Price have started already and we have notification of more due. Circa 12% for insulation and circa 7.5% for Timber

    Diy

Same here.. can't see the pic either
  19. I'd just spray it and let it die back a bit and then get the digger driver to take the scraw off before he starts stripping the topsoil of the site
  20. Exciting time, look forward to seeing some pics
  21. A bit above and isolated from the usual reason of inflation. So that's why I am now pricing future increases into future long term tenders . Talking to some of our bigger suppliers they are also of the opinion that there will be probably 3%+ to come this year
  22. Past experience would tell me you wont see any decrease in prices anytime soon apart from maybe steel will settle when chineese supplys settle the market but for the general material i think we are in for incremental increase for the next 2 years or so barring a recession
  23. Alot of our material while not necessarily from the UK are traditionally routed through the UK so Brexit is also a factor on top of Covid, however how much of a real problem both these actually are I'm unsure and have a feeling alot of people are jumping on the bandwagon and pushing prices as they now have reasonable excuses to. Prices are expected to increase further in the summer according to most suppliers and no I wouldn't expect any prices to reduce unless we see a recession.
  24. I've got 26 emails since returning to work after the Christmas break notifying me of price increases covering pretty much every item or constituent component used in construction. Average increase is 6% with the notable exception of insulation which has risen by an average of 12% and steel which has jumped from €535 a ton to €710 a ton and a warning of it going to €800 a ton by mid March ( good job we locked in 2000Ton at €540 before Christmas..) P.s this is prices in and around Dublin area.
  25. Its a good job based on that video ?
